Friday Five (3)

Posted January 29, 2016 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

Friday Five

It’s been a while since I’ve done a Friday Five post so I’m bringing the feature back with five things that made me laugh on Facebook this week.

[1] This Friday Movie Picture.

Brenna is a person of guilt when it comes to this. She used to say, “Bye Felicia” all the time but she’s never seen Friday so she didn’t get why she said it. But I’m sure there are white people who are guilty too. Haha.

Cali Winter

[2] Winter around the country.

I saw this picture last winter and it made me laugh, seeing it again this year still makes me laugh like a crazy person. It’s my favorite part of winter too.

[3] The dummy that tased himself.

Haha, this guy has given me plenty of laughing time over the past couple of months. Every time I need a laugh, I look for this video because seriously…how dumb is this guy? Bwahahahaha.

[4] Stop, Drop and Roll with the Rough Riders.

I first saw this on this guy’s FB that I used to go to high school with and I immediately started singing along with the diagram because hahaha, it’s awesome!

[5] Asking for directions.

This is all me. All the time.

So there you have it, the shit that I’m laughing at this week and every week, basically.

Week in Books (8)

So, I’m completely obsessed with this song. It’s such a feel good song and I have lost count of how many times I’ve listened to it at work in the last couple of weeks.

I’m not sure why I’m sharing that on this post but well, I did. Enjoy!

Jock Blocked II
Jock Blocked (Gridiron #2) by Jen Frederick

She’s always played it safe…

College junior Lucy Washington abides by one rule—avoid risk at all costs. She’s cautious in every aspect of her life, from her health, to her mock trial team, to the boring guys she dates. When a brash, gorgeous jock walks into the campus coffeeshop and turns his flirt on, Lucy is stunned by the force of attraction. For the first time ever, she’s willing to step out of her comfort zone, but can she really trust the guy who’s determined to sweep her off her feet?

He’s always played around…

Entering his last year of college eligibility, linebacker Matthew “Matty” Iverson has the team captaincy in his sights. And it’s his for the taking, if he can convince his quarterback Ace Anderson to give up the starting position. Luckily, Matty already has an edge—the hottie he’s lusting over just happens to be Ace’s childhood best friend. Getting Lucy on his side and in his bed? Hell yeah. Matty is more than confident he can have both, but when he falls hard for Lucy, it’s time for a new game plan: convince the woman of his dreams that she’s not sleeping with the enemy.

I’ve read all of my February review books (well, I DNF’d one of them but more on that later) and I can finally, FINALLY reward myself with THIS BOOK! I can’t wait to dig into this one. I’m only about two chapters in but this is what I’ll be reading for the rest of the day. Matty Iverson? Come to Mama!

Against the Wall by Jill Sorenson | 4 out of 5
Dare to Run (Sons of Steel Row #1) by Jen McLaughlin | DNF
Roommates by Erin Leigh | 4.25 out of 5

My favorite read of the week is Roommates by Erin Leigh. That was such a cute NA read that was recommended by my book buddy JenB. I really enjoyed it and thought the main couple was too cute for words. I loved seeing them circle each other while they were roomies. Fighting their attraction, admitting there is an attraction and then jumping in. Such a cute story.

I also really adored Against the Wall by Jill Sorenson. I was so invested in both Eric and Meghan’s story. I loved seeing them again in this book and seeing Noah, April and Jenny again after all this time. It was another enjoyable read by Jill Sorenson and I was happy with their story. So good!

Which brings me to my least favorite read of the week. I DNF’d Dare to Run because the heroine got on my hot damn nerves and I couldn’t really connect with the hero and I really wanted to. Couldn’t do it, so I moved on.

None. I really need to get my shit together and write some damn reviews.

For Review

Defending Taylor by Miranda Kenneally
Nobody but You (Cedar Ridge #3) by Jill Shalvis

I’m always excited to get more from the Hundred Oaks series by Miranda Kenneally. That’s such a fun series and Kenneally is one of the YA authors that continues to shine for me so I’m looking forward to reading this one soon.

The last book in the Cedar Ridge series and it’s the long lost brother’s book…I’m in!

Roommates by Erin Leigh

I bought and read this book in the same day and was really impressed with it. I really enjoyed the romance between Brady (BJ, haha) and Nate-Dog. LOL. They were adorable.

Big Rock by Lauren Blakely

Week in Books (7)

Posted January 20, 2016 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

I had a lot of stuff going on last week. League started for the girls so I’ve been busy with basketball stuff. We have games every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday for the next couple of months. Talk about busy, busy, busy. Add in my shows are coming back too? When will I even find the time to read? Haha, yeah right. TV would go before my books.

Ken started first and played against Inglewood and Morningside this week and both games were blowouts. I heard they beat Morningside by like 72 points. Ouch.

Bren and Cher started their season against Centennial and that was a boring game but…BRENNA BROUGHT HER ALGEBRA 2 GRADE UP SO SHE’S BACK IN ACTION! She had an impressive first game back with about 14 points so it was the perfect game to come back to and get all of the cobwebs out. North killed Centennial on Wednesday and then faced off against West (our rivals) and eeked out a win against them too. It was a controversial win but hey, know the rules! Brenna needs to be more aggressive. It drives me nuts that she kept getting beat under the basket because she don’t want to box anyone out. [rolls eyes] She made up for my being mad at her in the first half with that charge she took in the second half that sparked us taking the lead and keeping the lead for the rest of the game..but still.

Meghan is playing college ball now and she’s doing what she’s always done. Getting shit done. She’s averaging 17.3 points a game and leads the SCC South Division in points. Woot! Too bad her team sucks. LOL.

Lukey played again this week and Brenna and I went to support that little guy. He still continues to refuse to rebound or shoot the ball but he’s still the best dang dribbler on the court. No double dribbling or traveling (much) for him. Ha! And at least this week, his team got on the board. They lost 8-12 so all in all, it’s progress!

Fans of Katie McGarry, Simone Elkeles, and Tammara Webber will love Against the Wall! As teenagers, they fell for each other despite the odds. But now that Eric and Meghan are all grown up, they’re reunited by fierce passion and dangerous secrets.

Eric Hernandez is the bad boy of every schoolgirl’s fantasies—and every mother’s nightmares. But after serving time for manslaughter, he’s ready to turn his life around. He just needs a chance to prove himself as a professional tattoo artist. The one thing that keeps him going is the memory of the innocent beauty he loved and left behind.

Meghan Young’s world isn’t as perfect as it looks. The preacher’s daughter is living a lie, especially now that Eric is back. Tougher, harder, and sexier than ever, he might be the only person she can trust. But there’s no telling what he’ll do to protect her if he learns the truth, and that’s a risk Meghan won’t let him take. And yet, back in the arms of the troubled boy with the artist’s soul, Meghan can’t help surrendering to the man he’s become.

I haven’t started this yet but I’m planning on starting it sometime today but I’m super excited about starting it because well, you can read all about why I’m excited to read this book here.

Oh man, we finally got Dean’s book and I loved it. I loved Dean a whole lot more than I was expecting and that book was easily my favorite read of the week. Holy cow, that man whore Dean was all that and a bag of chips. The other books that I read were all equally enjoyable…and all books that I’ve been itching to read for some time now. It was a damn good reading week for me.

Did I Mention I Love You by Estelle Maskame

Fully Ignited (Boston Fire #3) by Shannon Stacey

The only review book that I got this week is Fully Ignited by Shannon Stacey. Scotty Kincaid’s book. I’m stoked about it because I’ve been wanting Scotty’s book since he was an annoying brother in the first book. Woot!

Appealed (Legal Briefs #3) by Emma Chase

Brent’s book! I cannot wait to read Brent’s book. I adored him in both Overruled and Sustained and am super anxious to see Brent in action, front and center. Squee!
