Book Club: Angels Blood by Nalini Singh

Book Bunch 1

We’re six months strong this year as a book club and I’m thrilled with that. We’ve had 100% attendance and we’re about 90% participation but getting better. Gone are the days of nobody reading the books and still showing up to book club. Woo hoo!

This month, we met up at Black Angus at the Del Amo Mall because well, the book is set in New York and we were going for the whole New York Steakhouse vibes..and it worked well for us. B Nice, Lilo and I got steak (very good steak) and Tash got ribs (wasn’t a huge fan of them) and we had a really great discussion. Thanks to Tasha for putting a great discussion together for us.

Book Club Book

Angels Blood (Guild Hunters #1) by Nalini Singh

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she is the best- but she does not know if even she is good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, Elena knows failure is not an option—even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other—and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt does not destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just might. For when archangels play, mortals break.

I’ve been meaning to read this book for quite some time now. It’s on my 5 Books Reading Challenge so I was able to knock some reading challenge books out with this one. Woo hoo!

Book Club Thoughts

Hero: It was unanimous. We all ended up loving Rafael but it was hard to like him in the beginning. We all enjoyed the change that came over him throughout the course of the book.
Heroine: We all loved Elena. She freaking rocked. She was so bad ass and strong that you couldn’t help but love her or want to be her as was the case with me. Someone should dress up as her for Halloween. That would be dope!
Story: It was slow going in the beginning for Lilo, B Nice and myself but it picked up in a major way and we all ended up liking the book and world as a whole. Tasha flat out loved the book and is already on Book 3 in the series. She’s completely sold on all things Guild Hunter. I’m jealous.

Most Memorable Scene: Hmm, we didn’t talk about this but for me the most memorable scene was probably when Elena shot and injured Rafael and was so worried about him afterward. That was the turning point for her, I thought. She was so Team Rafael after that.
Pimp Worthy: Yes. We would definitely pimp this out to anyone and everyone.

Book Club Next Book

Back to You (Coming Home #2) by Jessica Scott

July is America’s birthday so we chose a military romance to discuss next month. It’s a new to everyone but me author and I’m excited to see how everyone likes this book. Holly loved it and cried so I know that I’m going to be a hot mess. I can’t wait.

When Game of Thrones Is Taking Over Your Life

Posted June 28, 2016 by Rowena in Miscellaneous | 2 Comments

You’re going to be getting a lot of Game of Thrones posts this week because this last season was probably my most favorite of all the seasons. A lot of things have popped off that I’ve been waiting ever so patiently to happen. I think about the show all the damn time. I talk about it all the damn time too. Especially at work.

I have a friend at work that constantly makes me laugh. He’s so witty and cheesy and just..the best. He makes me miss James and Chris only a little bit each day, instead of missing them a lot. His name is Danny. Danny is a huge Game of Thrones fan and every Monday, we would come into the office and spend about a half hour of the day just talking about all things Game of Thrones. It’s probably my favorite time of the day because Jon Snow! I get to talk about my main boo!

Danny and I work for an Environmental consulting firm and we (well Danny does) go out to different properties and do a whole lot of inspecting and researching. Danny’s job is to do historical research on properties. Are there any environmental risks associated with this property? If your property used to be a dry cleaners or a gas station in the past, odds are you’re going to have environmental risks. When there are risks associated with a property then the project manager will REC a site. Clients aren’t happy when a PM RECS a site because that means they’re going to have to spend money to fix whatever REC the PM requested. Some clients get mean. They bitch and moan. It’s not always fun.

Yesterday, before Danny and I could get our GoT talk on he sent me this text and I about died laughing.

Danny: When I REC a site:

LMAO LMAO LMAO. Freaking Danny.

Week in Books (25)

Week in Books v2

I didn’t get much reading done this week but that’s okay because…GAME OF THRONES! I haven’t been alright since I finished last night’s episode. This is me right now:

But this week starts the week where I go back to my old blogging schedule. Week in Books will return to Mondays and Eye Candy Friday will return on Friday. Just cause…I feel like it. Don’t you just love how late I’m posting this post on its new (but old) schedule? Ugh, epic fail but I’m covering for this girl at work (not a fan of hers) so I’ve been super swamped. Better late than never though, right?

Currently Reading

Sweet Little Lies (Heartbreaker Bay #1 ) by Jill Shalvis.

Choose the one guy you can’t have . . .

As captain of a San Francisco Bay tour boat, Pru can handle rough seas—the hard part is life on dry land. Pru loves her new apartment and her neighbors; problem is, she’s in danger of stumbling into love with Mr. Right for Anybody But Her.

Fall for him—hard . . .

Pub owner Finn O’Riley is six-foot-plus of hard-working hottie who always makes time for his friends. When Pru becomes one of them, she discovers how amazing it feels to be on the receiving end of that deep green gaze. But when a freak accident involving darts (don’t ask) leads to shirtless first aid, things rush way past the friend zone. Fast.

And then tell him the truth.

Pru only wants Finn to be happy; it’s what she wishes for at the historic fountain that’s supposed to grant her heart’s desire. But wanting him for herself is a different story—because Pru’s been keeping a secret that could change everything. . . .

I’ve been looking forward to reading this book for a while now but after getting sucked into the Psy/Changelings series, a lot of the books that I planned to read a long time ago got pushed down my list but I’m reading this now and so far, it’s cute. Really cute. I can’t wait to go home and get some more reading done. Already I love me some Finn O’Riley.

Stay Until We Break (Hub City #2) by Mercy Brown | 3.5 out of 5
The Billionaire Bachelor (Billionaire Bad Boys #1) by Jessica Lemmon | 4.25 out of 5

I liked both books that I read last week but my favorite read of the week goes to The Billionaire Bachelor by Jessica Lemmon. It was cute and I loved me some Reese Crane. Even when he was getting on my hot damn nerves, I loved his sexy ass.

Book Boyfriend

Reese Crane from The Billionaire Bachelor by Jessica Lemmon.

“Without you, I have nothing. Without you, I am nothing.”

Like I said earlier in this post, I loved me some Reese Crane. I loved seeing him fake it until he made it with Merina. I loved seeing him soften in his attitude and I hella loved seeing the great change come over him because while he started off being a complete jerk, I fell so hard for him. He was better with Merina and when he finally gets it, I about happy swooned myself into a puddle of love for him. <3 Reviewed

I can’t think of anything I bought last week. I’ve been too busy with family stuff to think about buying books. I know, right? Who is too busy for books?
