Week in Books v2

It rained cats and dogs this week, mostly this weekend so I got a hell of a lot of reading done. I wasn’t in the mood to go out, I didn’t really feel like watching TV or movies though I did watch Hidden Figures and really enjoyed that so for the most part, this weekend…I stayed in and read all of the books.

It did wonders to pick up my mood since Brenna’s basketball coach was gonna catch these hands on Friday at her game. I was so angry for my baby (she didn’t get any playing time and the coach’s reasons for that are bullshit. So full of shit, that lady is.) who is beyond frustrated with how her senior year is going. Stupid people like her coach really piss me off.

Currently Reading

Hollywood Dirt (Hollywood Dirt #1) by Alessandra Torre.

Cole Masten. Abandoned by his superstar wife, Hollywood’s Perfect Husband is now Hollywood’s Sexiest Bachelor: partying hard and screwing even harder. Watch out Los Angeles, there’s a new bad boy in town.

Summer Jenkins. That’s me, a small town girl stuck in Quincy, Georgia. I cook some mean chicken and dumplins, can bluff a grown man out of his savings in poker, and was voted Most Friendly my senior year.

We were from different worlds. Our lives shouldn’t have collided. But then Cole Masten read a book about my small town. And six months later, his jet landed on our dusty airstrip, and he brought Hollywood with him.

From the start, I knew he was trouble. For our town. And for me.

Sometimes, opposites just aren’t meant to attract.

Ames and I are reading this book for our January buddy review and I’m about halfway through the 112 chapters that this book has to offer. It’s a really quick read though, I’m enjoying it so far even though the hero is a douche and the heroine makes me laugh. Lots to look forward to and I can’t wait to finish it.

Nine Rules to Break when Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean | 4.5 out of 5
Sustained by Emma Chase | 5 out of 5
Sidebarred by Emma Chase | 5 out of 5
Accidentally on Purpose by Jill Shalvis | 3 out of 5
Fury on Fire by Sophie Jordan | 3 out of 5
Seven Minutes in Heaven by Eloisa James | 4 out of 5
By Your Side by Kasie West | 3 out of 5
#famous by Jilly Gagnon | 3 out of 5

My favorite read of the week goes to Sustained by Emma Chase because that book is just all that and a bag of chips for me. I adore that book and it’s been a while in between reads so I forgot a lot of the things that I loved about it the first time I read it. I highly recommend that book. So stinkin’ good. I laughed, I cried and I damn near swooned at every turn because Jake Beckett is whoa. Of the new to me reads, my favorite is Seven Minutes in Heaven by Eloisa James. That was a delightful read.

All of the books that are rated 3 are equally my least favorite reads of the week. They were just okay reads. Good stories overall but for one reason or another, I didn’t love them.

Here are my reviews that went live on Book Binge this week:

Retro Review: Just the Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James

New to My Bookshelves

Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre

Ames and I are reviewing this book together this week so Ames gifted the book to me and I’m reading it now. Ames is so good to me! Thanks Ames!

New to My Review Shelf

None. I need to slow my roll on these so no accepting on requesting for me this week.

I should mention that after I finish reading Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally (I’ll be reading that this week), I will have zero books left on my 2017 review pile. I am beyond happy about that.

There you have it, my week in books. How did your week go?

Hi Rebecca! Thanks for stopping by. Normally, I’d read about 2-3 books a week but because of all the rain we’ve been getting here in Southern California, I didn’t leave my house for most of the weekend so I read and read and read. It was great!

  1. Oooh I want to re-read Sustained too! I love that book so much. It’s one of my favorite romance books ever. Eloisa James is an author I need to pick up more from one of these days. I’m a little picky about historical romance and I usually just stick to Lisa Kleypas, Sarah MacLean and Tessa Dare, but I have to make an effort to read other authors.
I want to watch Hidden Figures too! I just haven’t felt like going to the movies lately because I went so much in December. But I might make an effort and move my lazy butt and go see it this weekend, given that the movie theater is 5 minutes by walk from my apartment!

Ha, so I re-read Sustained for one of the reading challenges I’m participating in and now my book club wants to read it for our book club meeting next month. I’m going to be reading this book all year at this rate. Haha!!

I know what you mean. All of your favorite historical authors are good ones. I love all of those, too. Have you tried any Julie Garwood books? I think you would like them.

Hidden Figures was good. I’m so glad that I saw it. I’m trying to watch one movie a week, we’ll see how that goes. You should definitely see it though. I promise it’s good! 🙂

  2. You have no more review books?!?!?! That’s super duper fantastic!! And you’re reading all the same books as me! Ra Ro!!

I’m sorry about your frustration with your daughter’s basketball coach!! That’s such a tough one because it’s so close to college time and UGH!!! Sucks!!! Hang in there… *hugs*

After I finish The Bastard Billionaire and Pretty Face, I will have no more books on my review pile. That makes me so happy. You must be reading some awesome books! 🙂

Thanks, my daughter is handling everything a lot better than I am. Ugh, the blatant favortism on her team pisses me off. Gah.

      Have a great week, Kristin!

  3. Omg, yes, all of this rain! It stormed so hard last night. Oh, boy … I know how you feel when it comes to the coach. That sucks about her senior year, Hopefully it’ll turn around. Ahhh I love Sustained too!

    • Rowena

Yeah, the potholes on the roads are horrible after the rain. I enjoyed the rain while we had it but I’m not at all mad that it’s not raining anymore. Ha!

Thanks, I hope things turn around as well but we’ll see. Sustained was great!

I enjoyed the Torre. I will definitely be reading more so I definitely recommend her stuff.

Have a great weekend yourself, Kim!

  4. Sorry you;re annoyed at your daughter’s basketball coach, it sucks when people like that get in the way of kids just enjoying their senior year. It sounds like you’ve had a great reading week, I’m a little jealous, how have you found the time? I remember reading Sustained a little while back and ugh, swoon. I’ve still not read the third of those books and I am seriously debating investing now, it was so good! Hollywood Dirt sounds like one of those ridiculous reads you instantly judge but somehow end up enjoying because it’s a little bit crazy. I hope you have fun and your weeks been good.
