Week in Books (47)

Week in Books v2 What a week. On top of everything going on in the media and the White House, on a smaller scale, things haven’t been easy at home. Brenna is still struggling with her coach and she’s trying to hold it together because this is her senior year and she’s working hard but her coach is making it harder and harder for her to enjoy anything. She stresses about basketball off the court, on the court and she’s been all over the place and it pisses me off but all I can do is be there for Brenna because she’s determined to work through this without my interference. I didn’t get a lot of reading done this week because I sort of overdid it last week and that’s okay. It’s okay because I’m listening to my very first audiobook at work. I’m listening to Holding Up the Universe by Jennifer Niven. It’s slow going but it does make my work day more interesting. Shout out to Nereyda for the book pimp. I’m enjoying the book so far.

Currently Reading

The Bastard Billionaire (Billionaire Bad Boys #3) by Jessica Lemmon.
A BILLIONAIRE BAD BOYS NOVEL Beauty and the Beastly Billionaire . . . Eli Crane is one tough bastard. After an explosion left him injured and honorably discharged from the Marines, all he wants is to be left alone. Yet his brothers insist he take a greater role in the family business. They’ve hired him ten personal assistants- and Eli sent each one packing as fast as possible. But when beautiful number eleven walks through the door, Eli will do anything to make her stay. Isabella Sawyer’s employment agency can’t afford to lose Eli Crane’s business. Her plan: to personally take on the role of his PA, and secure her reputation with the wealthy elite in Chicago. But this beauty and her hot billionaire bad boy soon find themselves mixing business with pleasure in the most delicious ways. And passionate, stubborn Isabella won’t rest until she tames this wicked beast . . .
I’ve opened this book a couple of times but I haven’t really done much reading. I’m hoping to get started on this book for real, tonight. Wish me luck!

Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre | 4.25 out of 5 Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally | 4 out of 5
I read two books last week and enjoyed them both. Hollywood Dirt was the first book that I’ve ever read by Alessandra Torre but it won’t be the last and Coming Up for Air by Miranda Kenneally is another Hundred Oaks book that I adored. So much goodness.

New to My Bookshelves

I’m still on a self-imposed book buying ban and I’m almost done with my review pile so I’ll be reading off my ginormous TBR pile soon. I’ll be back to buying books soon-ish.

An Affair with a Notorious Heiress by Lorraine Heath
I did receive an eARC of a book that I requested because…it’s a Lorraine Heath book. Of course I’m getting it for review. I couldn’t request this one fast enough. Book 4 in the Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James series? Count me in! There you have it, my week in books. How did your week go?

  1. Sorry to here Brenna is still stressed about basketball and things with her coach haven’t sorted themselves out. It’s so frustrating when you want to get involved but can’t because it’s her life and she wants to do things herself. All you can do is be there and hopefully she can come to you if she needs to.

And glad yo see you enjoyed Hollywood Dirt, I have been mightily intrigued since I heard about it last week. i may have to treat myself to it when I’ve caught up on my ARCs.

I hope you have a good week and happy reading!

      Hey Becky!

Yeah, it sucks but she’s doing okay so far and she’s no quitter. I’m proud of her.

How many ARCs do you have to read? I’m so proud of myself, I got my pile down to 3. I’m so stoked!!

Thanks, I hope you have a great week yourself!

  2. Hey Girl! That’s tough for your daughter. It’s good that she is sticking with it and trying to resolve the problem without Mom’s interference. Good for her and good for you by standing by her side.

I read The Girl in 6E, which was written by Alessandra Torre, but under her pseudonym. I really enjoyed it, but it was very different storyline. I liked her writing. I might have to check out Hollywood Dirt.

Hey you! Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, it really sucks that my kid is going through that but she’s strong and I have faith that she’ll figure out.

What’s her pseudonym? Hollywood Dirt was a fun read. You should give it a go. ?

  3. oh, that’s rough. I hope Brenna finds her groove and not put too much pressure on herself. Anyway, gah. White House is shit house right now. I can’t even imagine how American feels about it. Let’s escape in our books and hopefully, we’ll wake up from this nightmare soon enough.

    • Rowena

It’s certainly a huge disappointment to start the year. I’m way ahead of you. I’m gonna escape into every single thing I can get my hands on. Stay safe our there, Joy!

  4. Ksenia

I hope things get better for Brenna. It’s sad that her couch stresses her instead of encouraging.

Yay for your first audiobook! I’m a big audiobook fan. I think I need to read something from Miranda Kenneally’s Hundred Oaks series.

    • Rowena

I hope so, too. She’s too happy a kid to be brought down by this crap.

Yes! I got through my first audiobook and it wasn’t too bad. I’ll definitely listen to another one soon.

Yes!!! Hundred Oaks is a great series.

    • Rowena

Thanks, Christy. I dread going to her games because I’m scared I’m going to curse the coach out and make things worse for my kid. gah. Life lessons.
