Week in Review (58)

Posted June 5, 2017 by Rowena in Books, Features | 4 Comments

If you’re visiting today, you’ll see that things look a little different around here. I needed a change and thought that changing the blog look up a bit was the way to go so I did it. I’m happy with it so it’ll stick for the next little while. This week was for prom prepping and CIF Championship softball games and hanging with my besties in Temecula, at the prettiest wineries that I’ve ever been to. I’m so glad that I made the drive out (it’s an hour and a half drive for me) to see my Book Binge gals, Casee and Holly because the last time we were all together in the same place was back in 2005. That’s more than 10 years. Sheesh. Still, we came together like no time has passed and we laughed the day away and enjoyed eachother’s company. So much fun!

What I’m Currently Reading

Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Dear Reader, Being trapped in a bedroom with a woman is a grand thing. Being trapped in hundreds of bedrooms over two thousand years isn’t. And being cursed into a book as a love-slave for eternity can ruin even a Spartan warrior’s day. As a love-slave, I know everything about women. How to touch them, how to savor them, and most of all, how to pleasure them. But when I was summoned to fulfill Grace Alexander’s sexual fantasies, I found the first woman in history who saw me as a man with a tormented past. She alone bothered to take me out of the bedroom and onto the world. She taught me to love again. But I was not born to love. I was cursed to walk eternity alone. As a general, I had long ago accepted my sentence. Yet now I have found Grace–the one thing my wounded heart cannot survive without. Sure, love can heal all wounds, but can it break a two-thousand-year-old curse? Julian of Macedon
My book club is reading this sexy book for our June discussion and it’s been so long since I’ve read this book that it’s reading like a first time read. I forgot how sexy Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunters series is and how compelling the world was. I also forgot the synopsis of this book and reading it again, a lot older than I was the first time I read it, it’s a different experience and one that I’m not yet sure how I feel. I’m not mad but I’m not much of anything else right now either. We’ll see how it pans out. I should be done with this book by tomorrow but haha, I’m having fun reaquainting myself with Julian of Macedonia…haha.

What I Read

Revenge by Lexi Blake | 4.25 out of 5 Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh (Re-read) | 4.5 out of 5 The Impossible Vastness of Us by Samantha Young | 4 out of 5 The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean | 5 out of 5
My favorite read of the week is hands down The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean. Holy smokes that book was good. So stinkin’ good. Gah. I can’t even put into words how much that book wrecked me. *sigh* Malcolm was everything and going into this book, I never would have said that. Sarah MacLean’s redeem game is strong. I liked all of the books that I read so I’m not going to pick a least favorite. 🙂

Book Boyfriend of the Week

Marcus Bevingstoke, Duke of Haven from The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean
I honestly thought that this week’s book boyfriend would go to Drew Lawless from Revenge by Lexi Blake. I adored the hell out of him and loved the fierceness with which he loved his family and his heroine, Shelby but then I read The Day of the Duchess and was reunited with the punk ass dick head who broke Sera’s heart from A Rogue Less Taken and holy cow, I wasn’t prepared for Marcus. I wasn’t prepared for his story, for his history and for his reasons for acting the way that he did but most importantly, I wasn’t prepared for the scene at the end when everything comes to a head. I wasn’t prepared for all of the tears that I shed for him, for his love for Sera and for the sorrow he felt at their past. OMG, I’m tearing up again. Well done, Sarah MacLean. Well freaking done.

What I Reviewed

An Affair with a Notorious Heiress by Lorraine Heath | 4 out of 5 Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett | 4 out of 5 Blood Bound by Patricia Briggs | 4.25 out of 5

What I Posted

5/30: Week in Review (57)

What I Got

Ready to Run by Lauren Layne Chasing Christmas Eve by Jill Shalvis Arm Candy by Jessica Lemmon Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews White Hot by Ilona Andrews Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews Sweep in Peace by Ilona Andrews One Fell Sweep by Ilona Andrews Shacking Up by Helena Hunting When It’s Real by Erin Watt

What I Watched on TV

I’ve been watching random episodes of Friends before bed and cracking up every single time. Brenna has taken to watching episodes with me and she had no idea that it was such a funny show. Before she had no interest but I’m glad to see that’s changing. I love and miss these guys!

What Movies I Watched

John Wick (2014) | 4 out of 5 The Art of Us (2017) | DNF
I watched John Wick again with my nephew Chance. Don’t mess with John’s dog. 🙂 I think I’m all burnt out on Hallmark movies because the last couple of movies I watched, I didn’t finish because I was bored. The guy in The Art of Us is hot stuff but even he couldn’t save my interest while watching that movie.
There you have it, my week in review. How was your week?

My friend gifted the book to me as a way to entice me to try the book. I’m looking forward to it. Thanks for stopping by, Joy!

Hey Grace! Yeah, the winery was beautiful and the company was fabulous! We laughed and talked for so long that we had lunch AND dinner there. Such a fun outing, I’m glad I made the drive. Thanks, you have a great week too! 🙂
