Week in Review (62)

Posted August 28, 2017 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

What a week! It’s been a great reading week for me so I’m thrilled to be reading again because I was in the worst reading slump this summer. I wasn’t in the mood for anything so I watched a shit ton of tv shows.

My nephews are playing football so our family is all about Friday and Saturday night lights these days. I haven’t been a very big football fan because L.A. didn’t have a football team for the longest time and I’m a hometown supporter (The Rams and the Chargers don’t count since, for most of my adult life, they were from St. Louis and San Diego) but I’m a huge North High football and Wilmington “Bang Bang” Pilot Gang fan now…:)

Both Chase (North High) and Brody (Pilots Pop Warner) won their games this week so woo hoo for us. It’s also volleyball time for our family since my niece Makaela plays for North High. I can’t wait to see her play. She’s my best friend in our family.

That’s about it for my week on the personal front…now, the books!

What I’m Currently Reading

Temporary by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry.

The most beautiful man I’ve ever seen is the one who can ruin everything…

The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.

And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.

I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful — pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full-time job for me. It has to.

But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.

And it works–if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can’t afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.

Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo…

I got this for review and I’m super excited to jump into it because I adore all things new Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry is an author that I’ve read an enjoyed before so I just know that I’ll enjoy the heck out of this one.

Which Hoover new book? I hadn’t realize she had a new book out. Sheesh, where have I been? I enjoyed the Royally books so I hope you enjoy them too. 🙂 Hi Christy!

  1. Yay for reading again! I have to say, maybe it’s to do with summer because I had a bit of a slump going there for a few weeks and it’s slowly started going away lately. You have read some good books, I mean, Ilona Andrews. I need to read the Innkeeper books, I think this everytime I see them about. I don’t really get sports, mostly because they aren’t as big here in the UK, not in the same way as in the US. I mean, everyone seems to like football (soccer) or cricket or whatever but we don’t watch school games and stuff like that. It’s cool you’re getting into football though, with your nephews playing. I feel like you always have one sport on the go. It’s totally weird how teams move city in the US, though, so I get why you probably don’t support any of the currently local teams. Strangely, both my stepdad and my brother are into american football, my brother supports the Cleveland Browns (he’s aware they lost a lot, he’s gotten used to it) and my stepdad supports the New Orleans Saints. It’s weird, they both got into the sport a few years back, I think it helps there are now games played over here in London.

Anyway, happy reading and have a great week.

Hey Becky! Yes, I think my reading slump was due to it being summer too. I’m really liking the Innkeepers Chronicles series so I definitely recommend it to you. 😉

Yes, my family is pretty big and we’re a close bunch so we try to support the kids as much as we can. Lots of kids play sports and we like to be in the crowd cheering them on and it’s a lot of fun so I’m always up for attending games. That’s cool that your Step-Dad and brother support American football teams. I’m a Liverpool football fan from Southern California.

Thanks for stopping by, Becky and same to you. I hope you have a great week in reading and everything!

  2. Ok I am dying to get your thoughts on Fallen Heir! So far, everyone has either HATED it or LOVED it! And I have heard good things about The Soul Mate so I hope you like it. Its on my wish list and I am hoping to snag it soon!
I love how close your family it! Its so great that you go to everyones football and volleyball games!
Glad your reading slump is over. Those are the worst!

Hi Rowena! Sorry I haven’t visited you lovely blog for so long. I’ve been on hiatus since April. I hope everything is ok with you and your family. Congratulations to your daughter with graduation! It’s such a wonderful point in life: so many possibilities, so many roads to take.

Someone has been reading a lot of Romance. Lol. I haven’t heard about Temporary (being MIA and all), thanks for putting it on my radar.
    Have a great weekend!
