Week in Review (65)

Posted September 18, 2017 by Rowena in Features | 12 Comments

It’s amazing how relaxing my weeks have gotten with my kid not playing high school sports. Sure, she’s playing basketball at the community college but her schedule is nowhere near as hectic as her high school schedule was.

I spent the week catching up on the shows that I neglected because of Game of Thrones. I caught up on Shooter, Suits, and The Last Ship. I also watched a bunch of movies, too.

What I’m Currently Reading

Duke of My Heart (Season for Scandal #1) by Kelly Bowen

Scandal can be handled…

Captain Maximus Harcourt, the unconventional tenth Duke of Alderidge, can deal with tropical storms, raging seas, and the fiercest of pirates. But he’s returned home from his latest voyage to find a naked earl—quite inconveniently deceased—tied to his missing sister’s bed. And he has only one place to turn. Now he’s at the mercy of the captivating Miss Ivory Moore of Chegarre & Associates, known throughout London for smoothing over the most dire of scandals.

Miss Moore treats the crisis as though it were no more serious than a cup of spilt tea on an expensive rug. As though this sort of thing happened on the job every day. Max has never in all his life met a woman with such nerve. Her dark eyes are too wide, her mouth is too full, her cheekbones too sharp. Yet together, she’s somehow…flawless. It’s just like his love for her, imperfect, unexpected—yet absolutely true.

Every time that I went to pick this book up on my kindle, I ended up opening another book and re-reading that book instead of reading this one so I never started this one. For realsy this time, I’m starting this book tonight.

I’m in the mood for a good office romance, anyone know of anything that I try after I finish this book?

My plan is to read that in a week or so. I just have to get through some other books that I want to read first. I’ll keep you posted though.

  1. I am really interested what you think of Kelly Bowen’s book, I have lost interest in the series. I sometimes struggle with HR authors who modernize them too much. So I am interested to see what you think.

I love office romances too. My personal favorites are Rock Hard by Nalini Singh, The Hating Game by Sally Thorne, Hero by Samantha Young, Lady Sophia’s Lover by Lisa Kleypas.

      Hey Renee!

I thought Duke of My Heart would be interesting because the heroine is a fixer like Olivia Pope but while I did enjoy it, I didn’t love it enough to continue on with the other books. How many books in the series have you read? Does Alex and Miss DeVries get a book? I can’t remember what the girl’s name is. How bad is that? I just read the book last week.

Lady Sophia’s Lover is an office romance? Oohhhh…

      • I have only read the first three books I believe. But after reading the third one I lost interest. I just found that even though I liked this author, it had too much of a contemporary feel to it, and didn’t feel at all like a HR. I have forgotten about the series to be honest. But I am curious about the other books especially since they get so much love from other readers.

Yes if you love office romances, Lady Sophia’s Lover is a must read for sure. It was the first one I read and I LOVED it so much. I believe it was the first book I read from Kleypas, so I highly recommend it.

I have had that book in my TBR for YEARS and have never touched it. I’m going to change that next month. Thanks for the heads up on that.

Yeah, I don’t think I’ll finish out that series either. Oh well.

Hey Lisa, I didn’t like Duke of My Heart as much as I hoped but there is much to like about it. The heroine was pretty great and the hero definitely comes around but it wasn’t one of those books that I’ll be shouting my love from the rooftops for.

      Thanks for stopping by, 🙂

  2. Yay for TV catch up, I sometimes like being able to just catch up on shows in well fell swoop because I have a habit of forgetting about shows if I watch weekly for some reason. I think because I’m easily distracted. Duke of my Heart sounds good as well, I’ll be interested on your thoughts so I can decide whether or not to buy.

What shows are you loving right now?

I’ll be posting my buddy review of Duke of My Heart on this blog this week. I promise!

      • Well, I’ve just binge watched The Good Place when that came onto Netflix here and that was quite good. I’m Loving the Electric Dreams series which is on as well, it’s on in the UK at the moment and it’s both weird and good. Definitely the kind of series where each episode leaves you thinking about it at the end.

Hmm, I’ll have to look up Electric Dreams. I’m curious about that one. I tried to watch The Good Place but it didn’t catch on with me. I wasn’t in the mood for it.
