Alice (Reese Witherspoon), a recently separated mother of two, finds her life upended when three young, charismatic filmmakers move into her guest house. But her unlikely new family and a budding romance come to a crashing halt when her ex-husband shows up, suitcase in hand. A story of love, friendship, and the families we create, “Home Again” is a modern romantic comedy with one very big life lesson: starting over is not for beginners.

What a cute movie this turned out to be. I’m a bit bummed that there aren’t nearly as many rom-coms being released these days because I’m a rom-com girl. I’m a sucker for a happy ending and there’s a whole lot of gloom and doom out there in the real world that happy things make me happy.

This movie made me happy.

Reese Witherspoon plays Alice, a mother who is separated from her husband. She moves into her father’s house with her two girls and is trying to figure out this new life as a single mother but when her birthday celebration brings home three guys who are homeless, her Mom moves them into Alice’s guest house and the movie really takes off from there.

The movie is primarily about Alice coming into her own after her marriage implodes and a shiny new romance with a much younger man gets complicated when her husband shows up and wants to play at having a family again. There was a lot of laughing, a lot of awww moments and even some scenes where I wanted to strangle a bunch of different characters in this movie but overall, the movie is enjoyable and I’m glad that I watched it.

I really adored the bond that the boys developed with Alice’s daughters. Everyone really came to care for each other and a family formed between all of them and that was nice. The romance between Alice and Harry was super cute and holy cow was Harry a little cutie patootie. I would have been a cougar to him, too. Ha!

So yeah, this movie was a lot of fun and I really hope to get more movies like this one in the coming year. It wasn’t the perfect romantic movie but there is a happy ending, a modern one anyway and I adore all things Reese Witherspoon so I definitely recommend this movie if you’re in the mood for something cute and sweet, with humor. This fits that bill perfectly.

  1. I wasn’t sure about this one Reese Witherspoon has done films I really love but also some I found so boring so I wasn’t sure what end of the scale it would fall. Love seemed more likely but you just never know with films. I loved the idea of a romance with a younger man, though. It’s so rarely seen and it had the potential to be such fun. Glad you enjoyed it and you’re making me think I should spare the time to watch when I have a chance.

I thought this was fun because though there is a romance, the overall movie is about Alice and the people in her life and Alice coming into her own after leaving her husband. The romance is more of a side bit. Still, it was fun. I liked it.
