Week in Review (95)

Posted July 23, 2018 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

This last week was for ordering a new bed for myself and then spring cleaning (I guess it’s summer cleaning) the shit out of my bedroom to get it ready for my new bed’s delivery. I cleaned out my closet, washed down my walls, dusted the shit out of everything and moved my room around, cleaned the carpets and everything. No stone was left unturned and by the time the weekend came, I was exhausted. I still have things to get rid of and things to clean out but I made a lot of progress and I’m super happy with my efforts.

Instead of losing myself in the books I wanted to read, I lost myself in movies and then 13 Reasons Why. The weekend came and went and I barely left my now cleaner than it’s ever been room.

Now, onto the books…

Award-winning author Alyssa Cole’s Reluctant Royals series continues with a woman on a quest to be the heroine of her own story and the duke in shining armor she rescues along the way

New York City socialite and perpetual hot mess Portia Hobbs is tired of disappointing her family, friends, and—most importantly—herself. An apprenticeship with a struggling swordmaker in Scotland is a chance to use her expertise and discover what she’s capable of. Turns out she excels at aggravating her gruff silver fox boss…when she’s not having inappropriate fantasies about his sexy Scottish burr.

Tavish McKenzie doesn’t need a rich, spoiled American telling him how to run his armory…even if she is infuriatingly good at it. Tav tries to rebuff his apprentice, and his attraction to her, but when Portia accidentally discovers that he’s the secret son of a duke, rough-around-the-edges Tav becomes her newest makeover project.

Forging metal into weapons and armor is one thing, but when desire burns out of control and the media spotlight gets too hot to bear, can a commoner turned duke and his posh apprentice find lasting love?

My plan to get this book read over the weekend went by the wayside when I binge-watched the entire second season of 13 Reasons Why. I’m mighty interested in seeing where they take that ending into the new season. I hear that we’re not going to be getting anymore Hannah and…that’s strange to me. But, there are other characters with other stories and I do find myself intrigued by those other characters. My heart went out to Zack and Justin in this last season and well, I really want more of them in the new season so fingers crossed.

Anyway, I’m starting this book today for real, for real. No, seriously…I’m going to start this book right after I finish writing this post.

I still haven’t completely moved on from the Lara Jean books. I just love them to pieces and my room is still relatively clean so that’s a total score for me. Woot!

  1. It’s been so long since I’ve commented on one of your weekly posts. I’m trying to get back into blogging/commenting regularly though so I’m here within a week of you posting it for once!

I’m intending to do some summer cleaning over the weekend so you’re not alone in this. The weather has cooled a little so now I’ve got to do those chores I put off doing while its been hot out when I was feeling lazy. I find cleaning, whilst exhausting, always leaves you feeling accomplished when it’s over.

And you’ve seen the newest season of 13 Reasons? I did grow to love Zack and Justin in this series. I felt so bad for Justin and I hope he manages to get the help and recover as he needs to. I do think I might have prioritised Duke by Default over it, though. I am so psyched for that book, I decided not request a copy to review and wait for the release instead, though. I have too many unread ARCs to be requesting more. Can’t wait to see your thoughts on it, though.

Hey you, long time no see. I hope the summer has been treating you good.

I ended up really enjoying A Duke by Default. Portia and Tav were the best!! I see that you’re reading it now so I hope you’re loving it too.
