Caiden came to California last week for a visit and we had a blast having him here with us. But he went home yesterday so we’re back to being sad and missing him but he’ll be back next month for Thanksgiving so we’ve got something to look forward to.
While he was here, he went to Disneyland, we had dinner at Chuck E. Cheese, he had play dates with our other kids at the park and just had an all-around blast being around other kids since, at home, it’s normally just him and his Mom all day long.
For me, it was a quiet week at home. I spent all the time that I could with Caiden, I read some, watched some TV shows and relaxed close to home. Work has been pretty grim for me because one of my closest friends at work quit and her last day in the office was Friday so we spent the week doing farewell lunches at all of her favorite lunch spots around our office since her new job is about a half hour away so she wouldn’t be able to go to them in a long while. I’m going to miss her something fierce though since I talked to her every single day and she’s finally watching Game of Thrones. Now our discussions about her progression in the show will largely take place through texts. Oh well.
I’m really enjoying A Million Little Things, the new TV Show on ABC. I’ve cried through all three episodes that I’ve watched so far. It’s so good.
Now, onto the books…

Eveline Armstrong is fiercely loved and protected by her powerful clan, but outsiders consider her “touched.” Beautiful, fey, with a level, intent gaze, she doesn’t speak. No one, not even her family, knows that she cannot hear. Content with her life of seclusion, Eveline has taught herself to read lips and allows the outside world to view her as daft. But when an arranged marriage into a rival clan makes Graeme Montgomery her husband, Eveline accepts her duty—unprepared for the delights to come. Graeme is a rugged warrior with a voice so deep and powerful that his new bride can hear it, and hands and kisses so tender and skilled that he stirs her deepest passions.
Graeme is intrigued by the mysterious Eveline, whose silent lips are ripe with temptation and whose bright, intelligent eyes can see into his soul. As intimacy deepens, he learns her secret. But when clan rivalries and dark deeds threaten the wife he has only begun to cherish, the Scottish warrior will move heaven and earth to save the woman who has awakened his heart to the beautiful song of a rare and magical love.
It’s time for me to get this book read so that I can prepare for my book club next month. My sister Delene picked this book for us to discuss and already, I’m loving the book. Maya Banks is really gifted at historical romance. I’m really enjoying watching Eveline grow into her own. I should be done with this one today though I want to savor this story. It’s so good.
What I Read

Shadow and Ice (Gods of War #1) by Gena Showalter | 2.75 out of 5
Phoenix Unbound (Fallen Empire #1) by Grace Draven | 4 out of 5
Fireworks (True North #6) by Sarina Bowen | 4.25 out of 5
My favorite read of the week goes to Fireworks. Sarina Bowen is such a winning author for me. I love her True North series and Benito’s story was just as good as the others in the series and I’m hoping for more.
My least favorite read of the week goes to Shadow and Ice and that’s because I spent more than half of the book bored by what was going on. The end was a lot better than the beginning but the beginning was boring enough that I wouldn’t give it more than a 3 star rating.

Glad you enjoyed Fireworks-its coming up on my TBR! Glad you don’t have to wait too long for more Caiden time 🙂
I loved how easy it was to fall into the story with Fireworks. Benito and Skye were great. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 🙂
Yes, it’s been a blast having Caiden here and I always miss him when he has to go home. 🙁
Aww! It sounds like you had the best time with Caiden. He’s a cutie! 🙂
Ouch at that rating for Shadow and Ice! I was hoping that would be good. 🙁 But yay! You liked Fireworks! I hope I like it too!
I hope you have a good week ahead!
I had the best time with Caiden. I miss his face so much and I’ve been on a social media fast so I haven’t even been able to see snaps of him on the daily. Oh well..
Shadow and Ice was really slow for me in the beginning. I shit you not, it didn’t pick up til about 60% into the story. I damn near gave up so many times. Had it not been for my buddy review, I probably would have DNF’d it.
I hope you like Fireworks. I adored it.
Thanks boo, you have a great week too. Read all of the books! 🙂
