My Personal, Reading, and Blogging Goals for 2019

Posted January 10, 2019 by Rowena in Books | 22 Comments

I’m a little late with this because I’ve been planning and getting my stuff in order but I wanted to get this posted so that I can have it on hand for my monthly recaps. I’ll be tracking my progress throughout the year so I’m low key excited. Here are my personal, blogging, and reading goals for the year 2019.

Personal

Focus more energy on my health

2018 was the year that I finally took my health under control. I did a long awaited physical, ran all of the tests to find out what (if anything) was wrong with me and now I know. So now that I know what’s wrong with me, 2019 will be the year that I start to manage my health and focus my energy on getting my body and my health right. I signed up for a local low key gym with my bestie and my goal will be to go at least 3-5 a week so that I can make my 150 minutes of work out time a week. The gym thing is more me supporting my best friend than me wanting to go and work out but since I’m paying for the membership, I’m going to need to use it.

Drink more water

I don’t drink nearly as much water as I should and it’s the cheapest drink! Considering how cheap I am, I should drink more water and my doctor really wants me to develop healthier drinking habits so water, water, water it is.

Start budgeting and focusing on saving money

This is one of those goals that I set every year and every year I fail miserably at it. Well, I still need to do it and I’ve been reading different budget plans so I’m really going to make a go of it this year. For realsies this time.

Be a better friend

I am a creature of habit and honestly, if you’re not one of my coworkers or in my family then I could go weeks and months without keeping in contact with you. My best friend lives 10 minutes away from me and I only see her at book club. I want to nurture the friendships that I have in real life and even the ones that I have online. I want to be in the know on everything going on in all of my friend’s lives so that we don’t spend most of our conversations catching up. I don’t want to forget anyone’s birthday so I’m going to work on that too.

Stop being so petty

If you ask anyone that knows me, I’m a freaking petty ass bitch. If you piss me off, I’m going to get you back and more than once, Brenna has told me that I need to be nicer to those around me so this year…I’m going to try to not be so petty over every damn thing. Wish me the most luck on this one. I’m going to need it.

Blogging

Write more personal posts

I come across a lot of funny things that I want to blog about but I never do. This is the year that I focus more energy on writing personal posts. I want to write posts about what I’m laughing at, what recipes I’m trying and just other stuff. I’ve baked a few things that I really liked and were hits with my family so I’m going to write those recipes up and share them with you guys. Hopefully.

Write more posts ahead of time

I tend to wait until the last minute to write up posts all the dang time but I’m really going to work on that in 2019 because I need to get my ass in gear and organize my thoughts, my blogs and just every damn thing.

Finalize my Blogging Schedule and Stick with It

I keep changing things around here and 2019 is going to be the year that I finally choose which weekly memes and even naming my own weekly features correctly and stick with it. I’m going back to Eye Candy Friday instead of Book Boyfriend of the Week so that I can feature my TV and Movie Boyfriends on there too. I’m also going to combine a couple of weekly memes into one post that will go up on Wednesdays and you know, stuff like that.

Write a Review for Every Book I Read

I try to do this every year and 2018 was a really good year for this. I want to keep that same energy where my review writing is concerned in 2019 so wish me luck.

Start Posting on Instagram

I need to be more active on my Instagram account, both my personal one and my book blog one. I keep saying that I’m going to be better about it and I keep lying to myself and to my blogging teammates but no more. 2019 I’m going to get my Instagram shit together for real, for real.

Reading

Read more diverse romances

I’ve got a list of diverse romances that I want to read and I’m going to make more of an effort to pay attention to the diversity in the books that I read. I never did before but brown folks like me need love too so I need to look out for those books and read them.

Read at least 20 new to me authors

I tend to stick to what I know, reading-wise, and that needs to change. I want to find more hidden gems, even if I’ve been hiding them from myself. There are a lot of new to me authors on my TBR pile that I hope to finally get around to reading this year.

Read more books from my TBR pile

Like the budget goal, reading more books from my TBR pile is a goal that I set every year and most of the time, I fail but last year was actually a decent year for me reading from my TBR pile. I’m hoping to keep that party train going into this year. I even made up a fun reading challenge to track all the books that I read from my TBR pile.

Complete All of my Reading Challenges

I’m so hyped to be participating in reading challenges again. I took last year off from them and I got bored so this year, I’m jazzing up my reading with some fun reading challenges and I hope to finish them all.

Use Kindle Unlimited and Audible Romance Package

I pay for these monthly but I don’t read or listen to any of them unless it’s an author that I’ve been looking forward to or love. I need to make better use of these subscriptions because I’m wasting money as it is right now.

What are some of your goals for 2019? Share in the comments and let’s work on these things together!

Those are good goals. Iā€™m trying to drink more water and lose some weight. Especially before my 40th. Thyroid makes it harder for me.

I even actually opened up blogger and back posted and trying to get back in the habit. Sigh… good luck to your goals!!

    • SYLVIA!!!!

Miss you girl, ooh!!! You’re one of my friends that I’m going to reconnect with this year. How the heck are you? Joey is probably so grown now! How old is he now? My friend has thyroid issues too so it’s hard for her to manage her weight but she is consistently trying. You can do it too! Miss you boo!

I’ll have to go and check your blog, catch up on your life! See you in a little bit.

  2. Girl! You have so many great goals here! Love the one about being less petty. šŸ™‚ I mean, it sounds funny but in all seriousness it takes someone who is pretty self-aware to recognize that and decide to work on it. Go you! I really need to try and blog more in advance and schedule posts. I’m always flying by the seat of my pants. And I definitely want to continue reading from my own shelves. It’s easy to get distracted by all the new releases (oooh, shiny!) but I love reading the books I bought that are just sitting there waiting for me.

    • Thanks Tanya!

I know that I’m not perfect and I’m just fine with that. I like who I am…though I could fix a thing or two. I can just imagine what your TBR pile looks like. So many books! Good luck on your own goals for this year. You’ll rock them, I just know it!

  3. I think you have some awesome goals here and I wish you luck with all of them. I’m attempting a be sensible with money goal this year since I’m attempting to be a proper grown up and buying a house this year. And drinking more water is all about getting into a habit with it. You can try those water apps that are about where you’re trying to grow plants or something to help encourage you to drink more. I’ve also seen those really awesome water bottles you can buy that have times on them so you have to try and reach a certain water level by a set time to help encourage you drink more water regularly throughout the day. And there’s nothing wrong with being petty but I try and employ a ‘don’t be a dick’ philosophy in life and it kind of works. Also, is there nothing more satisfying than being extra nice to someone who has been a dick to you? Just me? What can I say, petty things like that make me happy.

As for your blogging and reading goals. I seriously need to do some of these but won’t. I am also guilty of last minute posts, this year I’m trying to get my posts sorted within chunks of time I set aside for blogging and if they don’t get finished they’ll have to wait til the next time I have blogging time and they won’t get posted. I’m all about the no pressure. And I am determined to use my Audible and KU subscriptions more often because I am literally throwing money away. Why would I do that?

    Good luck with your goals.

    • Ooh, you’re thinking of buying a house this year? Check you out, Becky! Handle your business. Good luck on all of your goals! I hope you slay each and every single one of them. šŸ™‚

Petty sisters unite! I’m failing so miserably on the petty goal so maybe I should change it to don’t be a dick. Haha, I think I can do that. My pettiness is reactionary and that’s not dick behavior, right? *shrugs*

Same. I really need to read more and listen to more books on Audible and KU because I’m wasting so much money on that.

  4. It’s funny that drinking water is so hard when it’s so easy in theory- I struggle with it too but am trying to be better! I find that if I fill up a huge tumbler of water (I bought it from Starbucks) in the morning and keep it at my desk throughout the day I’m more likely to keep sipping and can’t use the excuse that I’m “too busy” to get more water. Good luck with your 2019 goals!

    • Out of all of my goals so far, I’m struggling with the water one and the petty one. LOL. I’m going to start bringing my hydro to work and hope that your idea works for me. Thanks for the tip and good luck to you on yours! šŸ™‚

  5. HA. I am SUPER PETTY! You’re better than me because I have no desire to work on that this year. Try adding lemon or lime to your water, it really does help!

  6. Willa

Oooh – you have a Blog too? I like your goals and your honesty, I am not petty, not a fibber and drink tons of water šŸ˜€

    • Hey Willa!

Yes, I have a personal blog where I’m much more focused on myself and what I’m reading. It’s more like my personal book journal than anything else. All me, all the time. Welcome!
