Hey everyone! Long time, no chat. I’m sorry I up and disappeared and that I seem to keep doing that on the regular. You’d think that since I ain’t going nowhere thanks to this ‘Rona that I’d have all the time in the world to blog and to read and to do all of the things but I’ve sunk into the hole of Korean Dramas and that’s about all I’ve been doing. I’m watching a lot more than I’m reading right now but I’m working on trying to find a balance so that I can, you know, do all of the things.
Things might look a little different around here but I thought a little makeover was long overdue. I also thought that changing the look up might motivate me to start writing again and…it worked! With this new look and a little change of direction, I’m pumped to start blogging again. Now, I know that you guys are here for the book content but I’m thinking of going back to a more personal blog so that I can write about more than just what I’m reading.

So, Welcome Back! Pull up a seat, grab a beer, and let’s catch up, shall we? I missed y’all!

The new, “heart-stopping”* novel in the New York Times bestselling series that “defines urban fantasy.”
Mercenary Kate Daniels knows all too well that magic in post-shift Atlanta is a dangerous business. But nothing she’s faced could have prepared her for this…
Kate and the former Beast Lord Curran Lennart are finally making their relationship official. But there are some steep obstacles standing in the way of their walk to the altar…Kate’s father, Roland, has kidnapped the demigod Saiman and is slowly bleeding him dry in his never-ending bid for power. A Witch Oracle has predicted that if Kate marries the man she loves, Atlanta will burn and she will lose him forever. And the only person Kate can ask for help is long dead.
The odds are impossible. The future is grim. But Kate Daniels has never been one to play by the rules…
After taking almost two months off from reading, I’m back at it again and I’m about a third of the way into this book. I need to finish this series before I jump into any other new to me books because I tried to read a few contemporaries before this one and I couldn’t finish any of them. You know its bad when I tried reading a Lauren Layne book and my attention was all over the place. I couldn’t buckle down long enough to finish the book so I gave up not too far into the story. I blame Kate Daniels. I just need to see where my friends end up after the last book and hopefully, it’s somewhere nice and tidy. So far, this one is good so I’m glad to be back with all of my homies…especially Curran and Kate. So I’m looking forward to finishing this one.

Blind Date with a Book Boyfriend by Lucy Eden | 4 out of 5
I finally read a book, y’all! I haven’t read anything since the end of May and though I’ve been trying, nothing has been holding my attention but after chatting on Zoom with my book girlfriends, I picked this one up (at their recommendation) and I’m super glad that I did. It was too cute and super short so just what I needed to kick my ass in gear and start reading again. Thanks Ames and Holly!
What I Got

What I’m Currently Watching

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay (2020)
Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016)
I debated with myself on if I wanted to start Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth right now because I’m running out of Park Seo Joon shows and movies to watch. He is my number one boo thang right now and I want to savor everything of his that I still have left.
What I Watched

Strong Woman, Do Bong Soon (2017) | 4.5 out of 5
Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo (2016) | 4.5 out of 5
Juror 8 (2019) | 4 out of 5
It’s Okay to Not Be Okay (2020) | 4 out of 5
The K2 (2016) | 3.5 out of 5
My favorite watch of the week is a tie between Strong Woman, Do Bong Soon and Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo. Both dramas were kind of similar in the sense that both heroines were physically strong and the love triangle is different in Weightlifting Fairy but I hella loved both of these shows. I enjoyed the romance, the stories, and just everything about both of them. I’ve already made a list of shows and movies that my favorite actors/actresses from both shows are in because I want to see more of them.
My least favorite show from this week goes to The K2. I was looking for a different speed than the other shows I watched and I’ve been hearing such great things about this show so I started it up. It’s on Netflix, the main male lead is FOINE so I thought, why not? While it was interesting and I did like it overall, the beginning was a bit slow and I struggled to connect with both of the main leads for a bit. Still, not bad just not my favorite.
What Made Me Laugh

Welcome back (I say… whilst totally not blogging or reading for weeks). You’ve been missed all the same. I think ‘Rona got all of us messed up when it comes to reading and blogging. Although, some people have got way more productive in the down time but they are the strange ones. I’m here for a more personal blog, I will read anything and everything. I’m easily pleased like that. And i see you’ve been watching some K Dramas but where’s Crash landing On You in your watching? I binged that k drama in a few days, it was so good. I need to find some more k dramas to watch so I’ll be checking out a few from your watchlist. Good luck with your reading, I’m fully slumped right now but that’s due real life getting a bit heavy. Hopefully I’ll pick up reading soon.
Thanks Becky! I’m really feeling the love here.
Hey Becky! Girl, I watched Crash Landing months ago! Haha, I binged that entire show in like 3 days? It’s definitely in my top 5 though it slipped behind Goblin and Fight My Way. If you haven’t tried those, you definitely should. They’re so bomb but Itaewon Class is still my top drama. I freaking loved that one!
I missed blogging and then I missed reading what everyone is up to and my quarantine productivity had much more to do with fixing up the house then reading and watching stuff. Since it looks like we’ll be moving toward another stay at home order (damn Californians), I’m pretty sure that this stay at home will be filled with more fun things like blogging, reading (fingers crossed) and binge watching shows.
How the heck are you? Life is getting heavy for you? You good?
Sorry I’m so behind with k dramas! I have been wanting to watch Goblin for ages but the only place I can get it is Viki and I vowed no more subscriptions… but, I mean, what is one more in the grand scheme of things? I’m trying to get through what I can on Netflix right now. Itaewon Class is on the list, but first I will watch the classic which is Descendants of the Sun because I have heard good things.
I miss blogging too, it’s just sitting down to write which is the issue. It doesn’t help I’m working from home so right now my computer is associated with work so this is the last place I want to be after finishing. You’re fixing up your house? That’s fin, if totally time consuming and exhausting. It’s a good reason for not blogging. I heard about the second stay at home order today, that sucks. I know we haven’t exactly beaten it here in the UK but I’m hopeful the numbers will keep dropping because I need out of the house.
And yeah, life has been a bit all of the place. The pandemic was enough but then I was gonna be made redundant so I’ve had 2 months of stressing about that only for me to get a letter last week to say my job might be ok now. I find out for definite next week but it’s definitely to blame for my reading slump.
Yess, watch Itaewon Class and let me know what you think. I’m also watching It’s Okay to Not Be Okay right now (Netflix is releasing weekly episodes and I’m all wrapped up in it) and I’m really enjoying it. It’s got a Beauty and the Beast theme and the main couple has really great chemistry. So that’s another Netflix K Drama recommendation for you. 🙂
Goblin is such a great show and while I did like Descendants of the Sun, it’s not my favorite. The female lead drove me up the wall but I will say that I love the music in Descendants of the Sun. I can sing some of the songs without reading the lyrics anymore, haha. Korean and English!
Ugh, this pandemic has been such a disaster. There’s a lot of stress everywhere and I just hate it. I’m working from home too and that is not going to change until a cure is found because even though my job is an essential business, I’m not trying to get my Dad sick, he’s high risk. I’m glad that your job stress might be okay for now. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that it stays that way for you.
Yes, I have been fixing up the house a lot. My bedroom is a complete safe haven for me and it is exactly arranged the way that I want it to be so I think I’d be okay to never leave my room again, haha.
Now you’re just listing half the shows in my Netflix queue. And good music is a staple of a truly good k drama, if you don’t find yourself humming the songs for days afterwards they’ve not done the music right.
The pandemic has been awful, it’s just a long list of bad news lately. I’m hoping the job stress will at least be sorted now. I get wanting to stay home for the foreseeable, especially as you have to worry about your dad. I’m one of the people dying to get back into the office, though. I am seeing my mom regularly now so I’m a little wary as I don’t want her getting sick but I also live alone and if I have to stare at the same 4 walls much longer I’m gonna go crazy. I know they’ve got social distancing sorted in our office at least, even if it’s only a couple of days a week I need a change of scenery I just can’t get from a walk.
Perfect timing on the bedroom, though. Now you have a safe haven you don’t really need to leave which is ideal when you’re going to be at home anyway. That’s probably something i should have done. You might be inspiring me to continue sorting out the house.
I completely agree, if I don’t dig the music, I won’t remember the drama. Keep me posted on if you watch any of the shows I mentioned. I’d love to hear your thoughts on them.
Right? There’s just day after day of bad shit going down and I’m exhausted. I know what you mean about living alone and needing interaction. With my kid in Colorado for the summer, I spend a lot of time alone but so far, I’ve enjoyed it. My dramas, my YouTube videos and my planner/journal have been keeping me busy. I dropped into my office today for a quick minute to pick up some mail that I had delivered there instead of my house (haha, I had to go get my stickers, haha) and though our office is open, nobody is going in so I didn’t get to see anyone except my old boss. He’s all by himself in that big ol’ office building, poor guy.
So what have you been reading? Anything good?
Welcome back Wena! It looks like you had some good dramas to keep you busy during your two months off!
Thanks Amber Elise!
I have been one busy Korean drama watcher but there’s just so many to catch up on. I can’t wait to see what else I end up loving!
Welcome back! I think everyone has felt wonky during these crazy times. I thought I would get a lot more reading done during the quarantine and summer break, but no. Oh well!
Thanks, Sam!! I hope you’re doing well. We’re in the same boat! Hopefully, our reading picks up again. I have so many books to read and review and it’s low key giving me anxiety.
You are back!! I’ve missed you! <3
I just finished reading that Lucy Eden book. It was super cute. I've also been watching K-Dramas but not the romance stuff. I've mostly been watching the crime/thrillers. I watched Signal last and it was brilliant.
Awww, thanks sweets! I’ve missed everyone too.
I thought it was super cute too even though personally, I cannot stand the city of Culver City. There’s always traffic on the freeway surrounding Culver City, traffic on the streets, and it’s probably why I haven’t gone to the Ripped Bodice more often considering I live so close to it. I’ve taken it for granted but still, Mike and Jordyn were super cute!
I’ve got Signal on my To Watch list so I’m sure I’ll get to it eventually. I’m glad that you enjoyed it, that probably means I’ll enjoy it too. What other dramas have you watched?
