The Monthly Recap: June & July 2020

Posted August 19, 2020 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

The Monthly Recap posts are a way for me to take a look back and reflect on my previous month in books, movies, and Korean dramas. From what I read, what I watched, what I got, and the books, shows and movies that I need to get to. I always lose track of what I have, what I need to read, what I want to watch and I need these posts to keep me honest with my damn self because I be forgetting shit. So here’s what my June and July 2020 month in books, movies, and shows looked like.

What I Read

Blind Date with a Book Boyfriend by Lucy Eden | 4.25 out of 5

Yeah, you’re seeing that correctly. I’ve only read one book in two months. What’s sad about this is that the book that I read was a novella with only 91 pages. I blame k dramas. All I wanna watch, all I wanna do is watch more k dramas. I will say that I enjoyed this short and super sweet romance by Lucy Eden. She’s definitely on my wishlist, I want to read more of her stuff after reading and enjoying Mike and Jordyn.

Life | 3.75 out of 5

I went to town on some k dramas in the last couple of months. Of the 19 shows that I watched, my favorites of the bunch are Fight for My Way, Strong Woman, Do Bong Soon, Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo, and Suits. I enjoyed all four of those shows equally and I can’t choose a favorite between them. They were all SO good. Loved them all.

My least favorite shows are all of the ones that I DNF’d. Some I wasn’t in the mood for, but others just drove me crazy and didn’t work for me so I quit them. That list is Playful Kiss (ugh, the hero was a dick, the heroine was a ditz and I couldn’t do it), Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (wasn’t in the mood for this one), Big (not a big fan of the teacher/student relationship),

What Movies I Watched

The Suspect | 4.5 out of 5
Midnight Runners (2017) | 5 out of 5
The Man from Nowhere (2010) | 4.25 out of 5
Juror 8 (2019) | 4.25 out of 5
Be with You (2018) | 4 out of 5

My favorite of movie of the last two months (hell, of the year) is hands down, Midnight Runner, with my boys Park Seo Jun and Kang Ha Neul. They were everything in this movie and I loved every single second. Holy cow, this movie was the bomb.

If I had to choose a least favorite, it would probably be Be with You even though I really liked it. I just liked it the least of the movies that I watched in June and July. Still, super good.

Eye Candy Friday

Park Saeroyi from Itaewon Class
Kim Shin from Goblin

  1. One book in 2 months!? I don’t blame you, focus on what’s making you happy and we all know how addictive k-dramas are. It find it crazy how many you’ve watched, I have been watching a lot less TV lately (good for my electric bills anyway). You’ve watched so many on my watch list, I think I’ll watch your favourites and then work my way through some others. I am currently in the middle of a Buffy rewatch, though. Way easier to rewatch a show I love so can blog and that at the same time, K drama takes up all of my focus reading those subtitles.
