The Weekly Recap (164)

Posted March 22, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 15 Comments

I spend a lot of my time working or working on my house and when I say working on my house, I mean putting my house together. This is really the first time that I’ve lived on my own and though my sister and I share a house, this house screams me. All of the things that I’ve ever wanted to do once I got in my own place, I’ve done here. From the bougie spice jars to the bougie as hell pantry, I’ve put together my dream house. This weekend my sister and I were productive as hell. We put our spice drawer together and it’s a thing of beauty though I’ll share pictures of that later.

We rearranged our living room to separate it from the dining room but we did it in a way that there’s more room in the dining area and even though we covered a window with our TV, the room is a lot brighter now than it was before. I’m not quite sure why that is but it is and it’s weird…but still, I really love the set up now and while putting our living room together, we made plans for our now bare wall where the TV used to be and I can’t wait to start crafting up a storm to fill that wall up. But here’s what our new set up looks like and I’m one happy camper. Our TV looks so much bigger where it is now and I love it.

I finally put up the Samoan prints that we got a few months ago and I’m really happy with the culture that it brings to our living space. We still have a few island pieces that we need to get frames and shadow boxes for but we plan on getting that done in the next week or so. I’ll update you with more pictures once we finish that up. We’re also searching for two chairs to put up against our picture wall (the bare white wall on the right, above the barrel) so I’ll busy myself with that search because I’m eager to finish off the living room before I start working on my personal library (*squee* My inner book nerd is beyond excited for that). I’ve been looking for white bookshelves for months to match my office desk but I guess everyone else wanted white bookshelves too because everywhere I looked, they were sold out. So I finally changed my mind and bought some other bookshelves and will be putting that together in the next few weeks and then I’ll start gathering print books again. Yippy skippy!

I’ll keep everyone posted on my progress throughout the house but that’s all for now.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…
What I Watched

Demon Slayer | 4.25 out of 5
The King (2017) | 3.25 out of 5
Cold Eyes (2013) | 4.25 out of 5

I watched Demon Slayer with my friend Therese and I really liked it. It’s a little on the gory side but it was an interesting anime with a fantastic sibling story. I’m curious about the next season though I’m even more curious about when the next season will drop. I heard we’re getting the movie coming to theaters next month and I plan on being at the theater to watch that. I’m pretty anxious for that, tbh.

I watched two movies this weekend and one I really liked, while the other one I was pissed off throughout most of the movie and liked the ending. Cold Eyes was a Jimin recommendation and I really liked it. I’m really into crime thrillers and this was a smart one that had me cheering on the good guys from the jump. I really like Han Hyo Joo so it was nice to see her in action again in Cold Eyes. I ended up liking The King but I spent a good deal of the movie pissed off at the main guy and even in the end, I was still mad at him but was glad that he stepped up. It was funny and totally unplanned but the villain both movies was the same guy. LOL.
What I Read

The Switch by Beth O’Leary | 4 out of 5

I had my monthly meeting with my book friends this weekend so I read this book because it was the book we chose to read together as a group. I hadn’t finished the book before the meeting started but I did finish it afterward (I only had about 30% of the book left to finish) and I liked it. I liked it a lot more than some of my friends but that’s okay. I really enjoyed both Leena and Grandma Eileen. I liked their stories, liked seeing their life swap adventure and I’m very interested in reading more of Beth O’Leary’s books thanks to this one so yeah, I liked this one.
What I Listened To

Telepathy by BTS

This is my favorite song on the BE album so it doesn’t surprise me that it’s getting a lot of playing time. I listen to it quite often and am happy to report that I can finally sing along to most of the song. Yay for me. Practice really does make perfect.
What I Reviewed

The Start Up | 3.5 out of 5
Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts | 3 out of 5

I love that meme with Jimin- too cute! I’m loving your house and its looking really good! I’m glad you’re able to fix up your house the way you’ve always wanted to- thats whats up! The living room area does look bigger the way you have it setup and the pictures look great! Cant wait to see the final product/ When I visited you a few months ago, the set up was really comfy, but this looks even better and brighter!
I need to try some of those Korean Movies.
I do enjoy reading as well and The Twilight series is what got me started. But, thanks to you and helping me along the way and finding books that I enjoyed I was able to continue reading. I’m still a reader now, but time is not on my side, so I try!
So many things to do and enjoy and not enough time to do it all. But, I believe if I really want to do something, I will make the time!
Wish me luck lol. Thanks again for the post from your faithful reader lol!

    • Hey B Nice! YES! The living room is much brighter now even with the TV covering the window. I wonder if it’s because of the brightness of the white wall in the back. Maybe? Still, I’m really loving the set up so we’ll keep it this way for a while.

When it comes to movies, I lean more toward the crime movies or the suspense ones. I really like those so if you’re ever in the mood for some action and criminals, I recommend these. 🙂

Good luck on getting everything you want to do, done. 🙂

Love that you’ve been able to make it your own! I can’t wait to do that lol whenever that will be. Excited for The Demon Slayer movie and can’t wait. I’ll have to do more research on Korean horror movies. Can’t wait to come visit. As soon as this damn neck brace comes off.

    • I can’t wait for you to do it yourself, too. Work with Leslie, you guys can do it!

You know, I haven’t even checked out the trailer for the Demon Slayer movie. It’s not a live-action movie, is it?

      • Tita

No it’s not live action. It’s just like the anime.
As soon as I get better, I wanna do a lot of things. It will also require us to throw away some of the stuff that our other roommate doesn’t use. She’s such a hoarder. Doesn’t use the shit but complains when she can’t find it. Like all of a sudden you need it, but never needed it for the past 10 years. 🤦🏽‍♀️😒

        • Ooh then it won’t get messed up, yay! I’m glad it’s not a live action. Foti and I were just talking about going to see The Last Airbender, the Live Action movie and how everyone was pissed about it. LOL.

Let her hoard it..in her room. LOL. I wanna see everything you guys do! Guess what I got and am waiting for it to deliver so that I can start practicing??? A CRICUT!!! Nena’s quince is just around the corner!

    • That’s my last project. I never had the space for a print library but I do have it now so my personal library will be in the back of the house, in my home office. I cannot freaking wait to start putting it all together. I’ll share pictures once I start putting it together. I’ve already ordered the shelves so I’m just waiting for them to be delivered and then I’ll start working on that project. I’m super, super excited!

Rowena: I really liked The Switch as well! I had a quibble about the pacing of Lena’s boyfriend subplot but overall I liked it. Everybody else was just wrong LOL
