The Monthly Recap posts are a way for me to take a look back and reflect on my previous month in books, movies, and Korean dramas. From what I read, what I watched, what I got, and the books, shows, and movies that I need to get to. I always lose track of what I have, what I need to read, what I want to watch and I need these posts to keep me honest with my damn self because I be forgetting shit.
My sister in Colorado came out to Vegas for a week in May for her son’s volleyball tournament so I was able to hang with her and attend my nephew’s volleyball games. Games that I normally would have watched on Facebook Watch so it was good to see Kainoa in action. He played well and even though he got beaned in the face so hard that it knocked him off his feet, he survived and is alive to tell the tale so alls well on that end. Helen came with her daughter, Genna and I spent most of that week with Genna. Helen stayed at the hotel and attended team dinners and what not but not Genna. Genna stayed with me the entire time that she was here. She’s almost 12 years old and we fought like sisters and made up like only sisters could but the best thing about us being together for that entire week was Genna is hella Army now.
So Kainoa had three games each day of the tournament. To keep Genna busy (she gets bored easily and didn’t really want to go to the games), we listened to music on my phone. We switched off picking the songs that we listened to so she would listen to a song and I would listen to a song. Every single song that I chose was a BTS song. On Friday, all of Genna’s songs were by Olivia Rodrigo, Shawn Mendes, and Ariana Grande. By Sunday, all of her songs were BTS songs. She spent a lot of time over the weekend, watching the easy lyrics videos to learn the songs herself. Her favorite songs are Save Me, Anpanman, and Butter. She was here when Butter debuted and we had a successful comeback weekend. I knew I raised my little Army right because, by the end of the weekend, she knew how to stream Butter correctly to make sure that her streams counted toward the chart numbers. I was so proud. LOL.

She fell completely down the BTS rabbit hole too. Not only was she listening to BTS music, but she was also watching BTS music videos, Run BTS episodes, the funny compilation videos on YouTube, and she chose a bias as well. It was funny because she woke up one morning and came to my room, turned on the Butter video on my TV and said, “Aunty Wena, I found my bias. It’s JK. I just really like him.” I was so happy that I sent her home with some BTS posters, a promise to help her build up her own BTS merch shelf and everything. Seriously, I was so proud.
Here’s what my month in May looked like…

I have started Demon Slayer on Netflix, and have been enjoying it so far. I also binged Haikyuu!! which I also loved. Lol. I’m well on my way down the anime/manga culture. Lol.
I hope you’re having a great June!
Oh yay! I’m so glad that you’re enjoying anime! Demon Slayer is one of my favorites (not that I’ve seen all that many animes) but Haikyuu is so good, too! Be honest, were you cheering for them like you were at the games like me? LOL.
Haha Genna is part of Army- Welcome to the club! You had a busy month of May. Always good to be up and running and doing things you enjoy to do. Love me some Demon Slayer and the Mangas. Cant wait for the next season.
Yep. Genna is a legit Army now and that makes me happy. I wonder when the new season of Demon Slayer starts. I can’t wait either.
I’m glad you got to spend time with your family. I have never actually heard a BTS song… I have a few students who really love them!
Hey Samantha! Family time is the best time!
Ooh, BTS seriously has something for everyone. You in the mood for some R&B? Try Magic Shop, Serendipity, Just One Day, or Paradise. You in the mood to get hyped? Try Ugh, Ddaeng, or Paldogangsan. Want something with an EDM feel? Try So What, or Best of Me. There is seriously a lot and you won’t ever be bored. They have songs for every mood, in every genre and they’re just so good. If you check them out, be prepared to fall down the rabbit hole. Your students have great taste in music!! 🙂
I’m happy you got some family time!
Thanks, it’s always a good time with family. I love family time!
I love you’ve got a home grown BTS army going on. I admit, I am not a huge BTS fan, their songs are catchy but I’m not fully converted. I do see why everyone seems to be obsessed. Looks like you’ve had a few shows DNFs lately, I get it sometimes the story just isn’t enough to keep you watching. What’s worse is one they start off really good and then lose you in the middle. I had that with Record of Youth, i watched until the end but it was a drag to get there.
LOL, I wish! I’ve only been able to convert my niece Genna and my daughter is only Army when she comes to my house. That’s okay though cause I love them enough for plenty folks.
I was surprised that I DNF’d some of those shows cause some of them were ones that I was hella looking forward to. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.
Yeah, Record of Youth started off so good and then the ending pissed me off!
Right? Record of Youth started so well and I was really enjoying it but by the end I was so annoyed by it. I just felt like I’d wasted my time with it.
For real. I wanted to love it because I love me some Park Bo Gum but even he couldn’t save that second half of the season.
