The Monthly Recap: August 2022

Posted September 6, 2022 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

The Monthly Recap posts are a way for me to take a look back and reflect on my previous month in Korean dramas. I always lose track of what I want to watch and I need these posts to keep me honest with my damn self because I be forgetting shit. So let’s start this recap, shall we?

August was the month that my best friend and I started watching k-dramas together (everyone cheer for Therese) and having someone in my IRL to obsessive over with is the best. I used to only have this blog where I would discuss all of this shit with myself but having Therese on this journey with me has been so much fun. We’ve already chosen our next k-drama buddy watch and I’m looking forward to it so much.

Monthly Stats

Dramas Watched: 8 | Dramas Dropped: 1
Dramas Reviewed: 0 | Boyfriend of the Month: Jang Uk & Lee Jun Ho
Favorite Drama: Alchemy of Souls, Extraordinary Attorney Woo | Least Favorite Drama: Today’s Webtoon

Dramas I Started (and are On Going)

Big Mouth
Bulgasal: Immortal Souls

I started these dramas last month and I’ll be finishing them up this month. I’m really enjoying both shows. Lots of thrilling and suspenseful stuff going on in both of them and the episodes of Big Mouth can’t release fast enough for me. I’m watching Bulgasal: Immortal Souls with my best friend and we’re savoring that show so we’re watching like 3 episodes a night so we’ll be finishing that one up soon. So much goodness!

Dramas I Completed

In the Soop: Friendcation | 5 out of 5
Extraordinary Attorney Woo | 4.5 out 5
Hotel Del Luna | 4.5 out of 5
Alchemy of Souls | 4.5 out of 5
Doctor Lawyer | 4 out of 5

These are the shows that I completed last month and there was a whole lot of quality dramas in the bunch. I enjoyed everything that I watched so it’s hard to choose a favorite. Ratings wise, my favorite would be In the Soop: Friendcation but that was only 4 episodes of us following Wooga Squad around while they did different activities. Of the dramas that I watched, even though these three got the same rating, my favorite of the three goes as follows: Alchemy of Souls, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and then Hotel Del Luna. All quality dramas but everything about Alchemy of Souls is still with me and the show has been over for a week. I’m still not over everything and I’m on pins and needles waiting for December to come so that we can finish this story up.

I wouldn’t say that Doctor Lawyer is my least favorite show of the month since I really enjoyed it and So Ji Sub is too damn fine. I just enjoyed the other dramas a smidge more.

Dramas I Dropped

Today’s Webtoon

I’m not sure what it was about this show but I just couldn’t connect with the story, the characters, and I’m not sure if it was too light for the mood that I was in last month but for whatever reason, I quit this show about 5 episodes in. That’s a bummer since I was really looking forward to this one. Oh well.

Actors that Stood Out

Each month, different dramas will introduce new to me actors and these are the three actors that jumped to the very top of my radar. I’ll be checking out more of their stuff and will definitely be supporting their acting projects from here on out.

Lee Jae Wook from Alchemy of Souls

Therese and I fell head over heels in love with Jang Uk from Alchemy of Souls and we could not sing enough praises for Lee Jae Wook’s portrayal of him. We spent quite a bit of time being all googly eyed over him and discussing every minute detail of his drama, his character, and simping over him in general. He made August a very fun month in dramas for us.

Kang Tae Oh from Extraordinary Attorney Woo

Kang Tae Oh was another August highlight for me in my drama watching. I absolutely adored him as Lee Jun Ho in Extraordinary Attorney Woo and was a puddle of swoon for him each and every single week. I’m kind of bummed that he hasn’t been in that many projects as the lead actor but I still made a list of all of his older stuff and will be watching them for sure. I’m also bummed that he enlists for the military this month so he’ll be out of action for the next year or two. Gah, I just discovered him! *sad girl*

Lee Jin Wook from Bulgasal: Immortal Souls

I lost count of how many times my eyes fell on the floor and I exclaimed, “Gawddamn, he’s fine” while watching him in Bulsagal. Therese is probably tired of my lustful commentary while we’re trying to figure out who the hell else are monsters and cringing at all the gore and blood. I’m very invested in this drama and I’m starting to wonder if he’s the biggest reason why. Haha. He’s got a big back list so I’ll definitely be checking out more of his stuff. Him and his fine ass.

All in all, August was a solid month of dramas for me. I enjoyed all but one of the dramas that I watched and September is shaping up to be a solid month is new releases so I’m already looking forward to so many releases. I’ve got my fingers crossed that I’ll enjoy all of the new dramas that I’m planning on watching. Wish me luck!

How was your month in dramas? Did you watch anything good (or bad)? Share in the comments, I’d love to catch up!

  1. OMG… Can December be here like tomorrow? Just for AoS lol It’s been a wild rollercoaster of emotions since we started watching K-dramas together. And Bulgasal… well let’s just say if it wasn’t for Lee Jin Wook and Lee Joon, I would’ve stopped watching a long time ago. Diah is now watching Attorney Woo and says that the show is making her so emotional. She texted in our sister chat 2:37am talking about how that show makes her cry every episode hahahahhahaha. Ween, what have you done to my family? LOL

    • Lee Joon was such an attractive villain, haha.

December will be here soon enough so we’ll have to start our re-watch of the first season soon. I have a feeling that AoS is going to be my K-Drama of the Year. It was so damn good. I can’t wait for freaking Naksu’s return!!

When Tesa texted me and asked me for kdrama recommendations, I was surprised but SO excited! K-Dramas are too wholesome and come in a variety of genres so there’s always something for everyone to enjoy. Your sisters are welcome, haha. They’re also welcome to text me any time to discuss k-dramas. I’m always available to gush and rant over them! You should watch Young Woo too. I think you’ll like it.

  2. Tesa just finished The King’s Affection (you probably already knew that) but is now looking for something else. I would’ve suggested Bulgasal but nahhh lol but I did tell her to watch Black. She said she did see that but she didn’t say anything else about it. Tania is still stuck on Ep 13 of AoS because in Germany, the other episodes aren’t available yet. I told her to hurry up and fly to Korea lol but I’m not sure if she’s coming home after Germany or she’s actually going to Korea. If she goes to Korea or back here, she’ll be able to watch it. Should our next one K-drama be Black? Or do you want to stick with The Cursed?

    • Hmm, Tesa might enjoy A Business Proposal on Netflix so recommend that to her (from me). Racket Boys is another good one and I think Tesa would also enjoy Crash Landing on You. Can you pass those recommendations on for me? Thank you, love you, hope you’re having a good day!! I need today and tomorrow to hurry up and pass so that I can leave for Hawaii. I’ve already got vacation brain so I need to start my vacation already.

Diah’s lucky that she hasn’t finished Alchemy of Souls yet. I want to watch that entire season for the first time again. Both Black and The Cursed are on my watch list so I’m good with either of those.
