This past weekend I hung out with my book peeps Holly, Tracy and Kat (who was visiting from Australia). We had lunch in Culver City and then made a trip to The Ripped Bodice. The Ripped Bodice is the only exclusive romance bookstore in the United States and I loved that place. The owners were pretty awesome and the store itself is gorgeous and perfect for lovers of romance novels.
Being with book peeps made me miss our original So Cal Bloggers crew so this week’s TBT post is dedicated to my favorite book gals who I haven’t seen in ages.
This picture was taken so long ago that I don’t know when it was taken. I know that we had lunch and chatted for hours about all of the books then we went out to the parking garage and did what we normally do in there…trade books. That was back in the day when I actually read print books. Gone are those days for me and when we get together these days, we don’t trade books anymore but I remember the good times we had when we did.
I miss my book gals so I think it’s time to plan another get together.
I have been dying to see Sammy J in concert ever since I found out that he was coming to California way back in January. At the time, I was pretty obsessed with his song Waiting and with his voice as well. I remember sitting in the stands at Brenna’s game one night, singing along to the song playing on my phone when I started googling his tour dates. I found out that he was going to be in town in April and immediately asked my friends to go with me.
I got responses immediately from most of them and they were all a go…and this is one of the things we planned on that we actually followed through on. Mulu and I didn’t make it out to Vegas for the Rugby tournament but I wasn’t going to miss out on Sammy J too.
I had a blast. We missed the first opening act, The Late Ones (haha, we were the late ones that night) which was a bummer because I actually know those kids. I know their parents and I remember them as little kids but my kids kept me from getting to the venue earlier to catch their performance.
Still, the concert was fantastic. We caught Tenelle’s performance and while she sang a lot of covers, she did rock the hell out of them and had Meghan and I scream singing our asses off to the two songs of hers that I knew. Haha. She was great.
The crowd was jamming hard when Tenelle was on stage but the minute that Sammy J came out, the crowd somehow got bigger and they just erupted. It was complete madness and that guy from New Zealand rocked the hell out of that crowd. It was one of the funnest things that I’ve done in a while.
I didn’t get a lot of videos of the concert cause I was too busy scream singing my way through the show but here are some that I took. Please excuse Meghan’s big ass head in front of me. Haha.
Sammy J singing Waiting (my song!)
Sammy J and Tenelle singing Say That You Love Me (my other song!)
Also? Please excuse the shakiness of the video too. My arms got tired. LMAO! Freaking Meghan wouldn’t get her damn hand and phone out of my way either. Ehh.
Still, all in all the concert was great. I had a good time with Sammy J (haha), with my girls and I only felt a little bad that Brenna and Makenna (who wanted to go to the concert) stayed behind to babysit Hanah’s kids so that Hanah can go.
Here are some pictures from our night out with Sammy J!
Hanah and I are trying to figure out what our next adventure will be so I’ll update when we figure that out.
….and I’m back. I didn’t post anything here last week because I was sick as shit. I went home early from work on Monday and stayed in bed for most of Tuesday, tried to rest as much as I could and then went back to work on Thursday.
Lots of things popped off in the two weeks since I last did a Week in Books post like the drama with D’Angelo Russell and Nick Young, Kobe’s last game ever and a bunch of stuff within my family. I’ve attended all of the basketball banquets in my family this year and I’m done. Yay. Finally. I also attended Sammy J’s concert and had a blast then had book club.
There was a time when Jake Becker had it all together. He was controlled, driven, ruthless—in and out of the courtroom.
Then, six irresistible orphans and their heartbreakingly beautiful aunt crashed into his perfectly ordered life. They changed everything. They changed him. Now he’s a husband, an upstanding member of society, a father figure—a family man. And he’s pretty damn good at it.
Sure, he has to referee sibling smackdowns, re-learn algebra, ensure his clients stay of jail, and keep his wife happy—but it finally feels like he’s got it together again….
So, of course something has to screw it all up. It’s huge. Life-changing. Kind of terrifying.
And it will be the most amazing, perfect thing he’ll ever do.
Nath told me that she thinks I’ll enjoy this one so of course I had to whip it out and start it immediately. I’m only on Chapter 2 but already it’s showing Chase’s witty dialogue and charming characters. I’m all about this one.
I’m really looking forward to watching Me Before You when the movie finally comes out in a couple of months. Have you guys seen the trailer for the movie?
Check it out:
I adore Sam Claflin. I adored him as Finnick in The Hunger Games, I loved him in Love Rosie and now he’s Will freaking Trainor in Me Before You. After reading the book, I didn’t think I would survive the movie so I didn’t make any plans to watch the movie…until I found out that Sam Claflin was cast as Will. After watching the trailer for the movie, I was sold and now I’m dragging my entire book club to see this movie. I’m stoked!
So for those reasons (and a lot of others that I can’t think of right now), Sam Claflin is this week’s Man Crush.
This week’s throwback picture features two little munchkins who are grown now. Ahbrey and Brooke.
These are my brother Pete’s kids and Ahbrey is in 4th grade now while Brooke is in 2nd. Ahbrey already has a phone, has dyed her hair, gets her eyebrows done bi-weekly and has two piercings. Yeah, crazy huh? While Brooke is little Miss makeup. She’s going to be one of those teenagers that has her own YouTube channel and teaches people who to contour correctly and all that madness. But this picture? This picture reminds me of when they were the cutest little human beings and when Brooke was fat. She’s so skinny now. Woot!
