TBT

This week’s throwback picture features two little munchkins who are grown now. Ahbrey and Brooke.

photo (40)

These are my brother Pete’s kids and Ahbrey is in 4th grade now while Brooke is in 2nd. Ahbrey already has a phone, has dyed her hair, gets her eyebrows done bi-weekly and has two piercings. Yeah, crazy huh? While Brooke is little Miss makeup. She’s going to be one of those teenagers that has her own YouTube channel and teaches people who to contour correctly and all that madness. But this picture? This picture reminds me of when they were the cutest little human beings and when Brooke was fat. She’s so skinny now. Woot!

Book Club: Once & Always by Judith McNaught

Book Bunch 1

Last month’s book club came and went and I forgot to blog about it. Well, better late than never. We welcomed Lilo back into the book club last week. She wasn’t very active last year but wants to join us this year and man did we laugh a lot having her back. This month we all met at Tasha’s house so that we can relax and be as loud and crazy as we wanted. That was probably a good idea considering we got pretty loud.

Book Club BookOnce and Always
Once and Always by Judith McNaught

Across the vast ocean sailed Victoria Seaton, a free-spirited American beauty left suddenly orphaned and alone. Eager to claim her long-lost heritage, she was amazed at the formal elegance of Wakefield, the sumptuous English estate of her distant cousin…the notorious Lord Jason Fielding. Sought after at plays, operas, and balls by London’s most fashionable ladies, Jason remained a mystery to Victoria. Bewildered by his arrogant demeanor, yet drawn to his panther-like grace, she came to sense the searingly painful memories that smoldered in the depths of his jade-green eyes.

Unable to resist her spitfire charm, Jason gathered her at last into his powerful arms, ravishing her lips with his kisses, arousing in her a sweet, insistent hunger. Wed in desire, they were enfolded in a fierce, consuming joy, free at last from the past’s cruel grasp. Then, in a moment of blinding anguish, Victoria discovered the shocking treachery that lay at the heart of their love…a love she had dreamed would triumph…Once And Always.

To start off our discussion, I put together a trivia game and I knew that it was going to be a hit. I asked questions and the first person to answer got the point and the person with the most points at the end of the game wins the Starbucks gift card that I left at home. Haha. I’m the best discussion host ever, right? Haha.

I asked questions like…

  1. What is the name of Jason’s dog? (Willie)
  2. What is Tory’s full name? (Victoria Elizabeth Seaton)
  3. How did Victoria’s parents die? (Carriage accident)
  4. What is the name of Andrew Bainbridge’s cousin in Switzerland? (Madeline)
  5. Why did Victoria prepare a poltice for O’Malley? (He had a sore tooth)

The winner of the Starbucks gift card was B Nice but I’m really thinking this one through since she’s a hot damn cheater! Haha. She was over an hour late to book club because she was at work finishing the book. LMAO! Talk about everything was fresh in her head when she got there.

Still, the trivia game was a hit and we laughed so freaking much that I worried we were annoying Tasha’s kids who were doing their own thing around the house.

Book Club Thoughts

Hero: Jason Fielding was a hard hero to like for pretty much everyone in the club. He was cold and mean to Tory at every turn when she first showed up and didn’t really let up in his cold attitude toward her until a good chunk of the story in. In the end Lilo, B Nice, Shy and even I forgave Jason for being a complete dickhead for most of the book but Tasha, she admitted to Jason not being one of her favorites. Especially cause…he cheated! He totally did.
Heroine: Victoria was the highlight of the book for everyone. She was kind hearted, caring and just a delight to get to know. She went through so much and survived even more and she had huge fans in our entire club when all was said and done.
Story: The story itself was full of angst and everyone enjoyed the book but Tasha was the lone shark in the bunch because while she enjoyed it, it wasn’t her favorite. There were moments that she really enjoyed but she couldn’t get past certain big events and characters in the book. They wrecked her enjoyment (Jason, Charles, the Grandmother, etc…).

Most Memorable Scene: Hmm, for me it was after the wedding night (dumbass Jason!) and Jason left for London. His shenanigans in London is something that I won’t ever forget. So disappointing! But others that were mentioned were when Tory gave Jason her present, when Jason thought he was seeing Tory’s ghost and didn’t care that he was going crazy just as long as she doesn’t leave him, those kinds of things.
Pimp Worthy: We all thought it was a pimpworthy book, mostly because so much happens and the angst really pulls the feels out of you.

Book Club Next Book

Own the Wind
Own the Wind (Chaos #1) by Kristen Ashley.

Too hot to handle…

Tabitha Allen grew up in the thick of Chaos—the Chaos Motorcycle Club, that is. Her father is Chaos’ leader, and the club has always had her back. But one rider was different from the start. When Tabby was running wild, Shy Cage was there. When tragedy tore her life apart, he helped her piece it back together. And now, Tabby’s thinking about much more than friendship…

Tabby is everything Shy’s ever wanted, but everything he thinks he can’t have. She’s beautiful, smart, and as his friend’s daughter, untouchable. Shy never expected more than friendship, so when Tabby indicates she wants more—much more—he feels like the luckiest man alive. But even lucky men can crash and burn…

We are entering the world of Motorcycle Club romances…should be interesting to see what everyone thinks. Tasha and I love MC romances but the other girls haven’t read any yet. I’m excited. I promise that I will be better about taking pictures at our club cause I feel like if there aren’t any pictures, it didn’t happen. Haha.

See you in a couple of weeks for April’s discussion wrap up!

Week in Books (17)

Posted April 5, 2016 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

week-in-books

I went to a Julia Quinn book signing at the Huntington Beach Barnes and Nobles and was glad that I went. She answered questions about new books, old books, her writing situations and publishing questions and not once was I bored. Not that I was expecting to be but even the girls weren’t bored though they did complain about doing book nerd things with me since they’re not book nerds. *shrugs* When they don’t drive, they don’t get to pick where we go.

JQ

Here is Julia Quinn signing some books that I bought to give away on Book Binge.

In other news…I got a new computer at work and when my IT guy set it all up and I booted the sucker up, I found that I am now blocked from Book Binge at work. I have been sad ever since. *sigh*

Currently Reading

Paper Princess (Royals #1 ) by Erin Watt.

From strip clubs and truck stops to southern coast mansions and prep schools, one girl tries to stay true to herself.

These Royals will ruin you…

Ella Harper is a survivor—a pragmatic optimist. She’s spent her whole life moving from town to town with her flighty mother, struggling to make ends meet and believing that someday she’ll climb out of the gutter. After her mother’s death, Ella is truly alone.

Until Callum Royal appears, plucking Ella out of poverty and tossing her into his posh mansion among his five sons who all hate her. Each Royal boy is more magnetic than the last, but none as captivating as Reed Royal, the boy who is determined to send her back to the slums she came from.

Reed doesn’t want her. He says she doesn’t belong with the Royals.

He might be right.

Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this book since my eARC of the book must have gotten lost or something. Not a big deal, I’m a grown up. I can buy my own books and I bought this the day that it was released but couldn’t start it until I finished The Natural History of Us by Rachel Harris. I’m super excited to go home and dig into this scandalous world. Bring on Sabastian..or well, you know what I mean. 😉
