The Wednesday Post (16)

Posted July 3, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

Can’t Wait Wednesday is hosted by Tessa over at Wishful Endings and it was based on Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

I decided that I’m going to do a mashup of the Can’t Wait Wednesday and WWW Wednesday posts here on my blog. I’m bringing them together and calling it The Wednesday Post. Here’s what I’m up to this week.

WWW Wednesday

What did you recently finish reading?

Storm Cursed (Mercy Thompson #11) by Patricia Briggs

I am all caught up on the Mercy Thompson series and it feels great! I’m super glad to experience this world that Patricia Briggs created for Mercy, Bran and all of my other favorites. I’m really enjoying each and every single book, for different reasons but the stories are all fabulous and it’s just a good series. I <3 it!

What are you currently reading?

Wolf Rain (Psy-Changeling Trinity #3) by Nalini Singh

This book came out last month and it completely slipped off my radar. I know, I know, I’m super trippin’ but I’m fixing that now and I’m not that far into the book so I don’t really have an opinion just yet but it’s a Nalini Singh book, you know I’m going to love the shit out of this book. Who am I trying to fool? LOL.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Brazen and the Beast (The Bareknuckled Bastards #2) by Sarah MacLean
The Wallflower Wager (Girl Meets Duke #3) by Tessa Dare

I’m starting on my July and August review pile. Once I’m done knocking those books out (and I’m super excited because I love the hell out of both of these authors books), I’m moving onto my Summer Reading Challenge books but first, it’s Whit and Hattie time!

One year. Nine events. Nine chances to . . . fall in love?

Weddings. Funerals. Barbecues. New Year's Eve parties. Name the occasion, and Sophie Evans will be there. Well, she has to be there. Sophie works for the local florist, so she can be found at every big event in her small hometown, arranging bouquets and managing family dramas.

Enter Andrew Hart. The son of the fancy new chef in town, Andrew is suddenly required to attend all the same events as Sophie. Entitled, arrogant, preppy Andrew. Sophie just wants to get her job done and finish up her sketches so she can apply to design school. But every time she turns around, there is Andrew, getting in her way and making her life more complicated. Until one day she wonders if maybe complicated isn't so bad after all . . .

Told over the course of one year and following Sophie from event to event, this delightful novel from master of romantic comedy Kasie West shows how love can blossom in unexpected places.

Kasie West has written some of my favorite YA romances and I’m super thrilled to have another summery YA to look forward to so this is definitely on my wish list. Can we take a minute to admire that beautiful cover too? I mean, sheesh. The colors, the flowers? I love it! Also, a hate to love romance? Come to mama!

So, what are you reading this week? Anything good? Anything that you want to rant about?
Are you looking forward to Maybe This Time? What other books are you looking forward to releasing this year?

The Weekly Recap (119)

Posted January 28, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

You guys, Brenna got her first start of this season (she was hurt in pre-season so the coaches were treating her with baby gloves when she got back) and…SHE WAS LEADING SCORER OF THE GAME!! I so happy for her because she’s got such a nice shot and she was finally able to let her shot fly on Friday against a pretty decent team in our conference and Kenna tied for second-leading scorer in the game so woo hoo for my girls! Meghan played in San Diego and then against a really trash team at home this week so I didn’t go to either of her games. She played well and was featured in her school’s article on the games so yay Meg!

I didn’t do much but read and watch basketball games this week so that’s all I got for you guys on the real-life front of this post.

Now, onto the books…

Lacey Barnes has dreamt of being in a movie for as long as she can remember. However, while her dream did include working alongside the hottest actor in Hollywood, it didn’t involve having to finish up her senior year of high school at the same time she was getting her big break. Although that is nothing compared to Donavan, the straight-laced student her father hires to tutor her, who is a full-on nightmare.

As Lacey struggles to juggle her burgeoning career, some on-set sabotage, and an off-screen romance with the unlikeliest of leading men, she quickly learns that sometimes the best stories happen when you go off script.

I have two more books to read from my January TBR pile and this is the first book of the double feature for this week. So far, I’m not really feeling it but I’m going to push through this beginning hump and hopefully, the story will pick up and I’ll enjoy it. Wish me luck!

I am really looking forward to the next book on my TBR list though…The Scoundrel in Her Bed by Lorraine Heath. FINN!! LAVINIA!! I CAN’T WAIT!!

What I Read

One and Only (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #1) by Jenny Holiday (eBook) | 4.5 out of 5
It Takes Two (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #2) by Jenny Holiday (eBook) | 4.75 out of 5
Merrily Ever After (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #2.5) by Jenny Holiday (eBook) | 4.75 out of 5
Three Little Words (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #3) by Jenny Holiday (eARC) | 4.5 out of 5
From Lukov with Love by Mariana Zapata (Audiobook) | 4.25 out of 5
Thirty Day Boyfriend by Whitney G. (Audiobook) | 3.5 out of 5

I listened to my first two audiobooks of the year (finally) and I have another one lined up for this week so that I can make my goal of at least 3 audiobooks a month.

I read the entire Bridesmaids Behaving Badly series last week and that was such a wonderful reading experience. I loved every single book and was so sad when I finished Gia’s book. What a great group of lady friends who were serious squad goals. Jenny Holiday is a new to me author, my favorite of the year so far and I cannot wait to continue reading through her book log. I just adored every single book.

My favorite read of the week is It Takes Two by Jenny Holiday. Wendy is my favorite gal from the Bridesmaid gang. I adored and connected with her so much. Her romance with Noah was such a good one, I loved it so much.

My least favorite read of the week goes to Thirty Day Boyfriend by Whitney G. I liked it but the asshole boss thing that’s been featured in books lately just isn’t my favorite. The hero in this book does shit that pissed me off and the heroine kind of fell in line with his shit and while she does let her petty flag fly, I was still annoyed. Still, the ending was cute and I didn’t hate it when all was said and done.

Eye Candy Friday

I really enjoy the light and fluffy YA’s that Kasie West writes so I’m pretty stoked that she’s got a new one coming out soon. I’ve got a thing for actors lately and this one sounds super cute so it’s on my wishlist.

I want to say that this is linked to Kasie West’s other book Love, Life, and the List but it’s not listed as part of a series and if this book comes after that book, even though there isn’t anything else but recurring characters that link these stories, I’m going to be annoyed. Books that are linked through characters, being apart of the same world and all of that other stuff is information that should be readily available. After doing some digging, this book is linked to Love, Life, and the List. Lacey is Abby’s friend and this is her story…gah.

Whoever is in charge of that stuff really sucks but I’m still excited to read this book. LOL.
