The Wednesday Post (19)

Posted October 16, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 10 Comments

Can’t Wait Wednesday is hosted by Tessa over at Wishful Endings and it was based on Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

I decided that I’m going to do a mashup of the Can’t Wait Wednesday and WWW Wednesday posts here on my blog. I’m bringing them together and calling it The Wednesday Post. Here’s what I’m up to this week.

WWW Wednesday

What did you recently finish reading?

The Bromance Book Club (The Bromance Book Club #1) by Lyssa Kay Adams

Monday was Grace’s birthday and Lauren from Bookmark Lit put together a beautiful way for everyone to honor out friend. Yesterday, everyone read a book from Grace’s TBR List, her Favorites List, any book that reminded us of Grace and for an entire day, we all #ReadforGrace. I read The Bromance Book Club by Lyssa Kay Adams for Grace and I enjoyed it a great deal. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would enjoy it and I know that Grace would have enjoyed it too.

Huge Deal (21 Wall Street #3) by Lauren Layne

I read this book when it first came out and loved it to pieces. This kind of romance, the unrequited love trope always hits different and with Lauren Layne writing this one, I just knew that I was going to love it. This time around though, I listened to the audiobook. This is our book discussion book for book club and book club meets on Monday so I had to get this read so that I can prepare to kick my book club friends butts at our monthly trivia game. I loved it all over again. This is seriously my kind of book.

What are you currently reading?

Marriage on Madison Avenue (The Central Park Pact #3) by Lauren Layne

It’s a Lauren Layne kind of week for me. I got this book for review last week and I don’t think I could wait to read it so I’m not going to bother. I’m reading this book next and I can’t wait to dig into a best friends to lovers book, especially when that book is Audrey’s book. Squee!

What do you think you’ll read next?

Blitzed (The Playbook #3) by Alexa Martin
Four Days of You and Me by Miranda Kenneally

Next up for me are these two books. More books from my review pile and more books that I’m much too anxious to wait to read. I can’t wait to jump into these two books and I won’t have to wait for too much longer. Soon, I’ll be saying, “Come to mama” to these.

What happens when a boxer finds chemistry with a geek?

Parker Brown can’t believe she needs to hire a fake boyfriend. When she landed her dream job in renewable energy, she thought she’d be entering a world at the forefront of progressive thinking. But the head boss prefers to promote employees who are “settled.” Thankfully, she’s found the perfect candidate, a fellow intellectual looking for some quick cash. What Parker gets is his protective big brother—Rhys Morgan. The tall, muscled ex-boxer with a foul mouth shows up just as her boss does, and now she’s stuck with the manipulative jerk.

Responsibility weighs heavily on Rhys. Now permanently out of the ring, he’s trying to hold together his late father’s gym and keep his younger brother, Dean, on the straight and narrow. To save Dean from himself, Rhys takes his place, ready to give this society girl a piece of his mind. Instead, he finds an opportunity. Even though they can hardly stand each other, posing as Parker’s boyfriend is a win-win deal. She gets to keep her job, and he’ll charm her star-struck boss into sponsoring his gym.

Problem is, they can barely keep their hands off each other. And what started as an easy deal isn’t so easy anymore. Because what future can a rough ex-boxer, afraid to open his heart, and a polished society geek, who has sworn off real relationships, possibly have?

They say opposites attract. These opposites are about to combust on impact.

I just barely came across this book over the weekend and already, I’m anxious to read it. A romance by two awesome authors that I enjoy a great deal? Yeah, count me in! Especially with a fake boyfriend trope. I’m trash for that kind of story. Bring it on! This book comes out on November 19th so mark your calendar, lovely readers. There isn’t much of a wait…yeah, there are only just under 3 months left in the year. Where has the time gone?

So, what are you reading this week? Anything good? Anything that you want to rant about?
Are you looking forward to Outmatched? What other books are you looking forward to releasing this year?

Book Boyfriend: Caleb Scott from Fight or Flight by Samantha Young

Posted November 30, 2018 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

This feature keeps changing because I’m trying different things out but I think I’m going to stick with this format from here on out. Thanks for coming along this ride until I figure out what the hell I want to do here. LOL.

A series of chance encounters leads to a sizzling new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.

The universe is conspiring against Ava Breevort. As if flying back to Phoenix to bury a childhood friend wasn't hell enough, a cloud of volcanic ash traveling from overseas delayed her flight back home to Boston. Her last-ditch attempt to salvage the trip was thwarted by an arrogant Scotsman, Caleb Scott, who steals a first class seat out from under her. Then over the course of their journey home, their antagonism somehow lands them in bed for the steamiest layover Ava's ever had. And that's all it was--until Caleb shows up on her doorstep.

When pure chance pulls Ava back into Caleb's orbit, he proposes they enjoy their physical connection while he's stranded in Boston. Ava agrees, knowing her heart's in no danger since a) she barely likes Caleb and b) his existence in her life is temporary. Not long thereafter Ava realizes she's made a terrible error because as it turns out Caleb Scott isn't quite so unlikeable after all. When his stay in Boston becomes permanent, Ava must decide whether to fight her feelings for him or give into them. But even if she does decide to risk her heart on Caleb, there is no guarantee her stubborn Scot will want to risk his heart on her....

This week’s book boyfriend is Caleb Scott from Fight or Flight by Samantha Young. When I first started the book, I didn’t think I would finish it because Caleb was a freaking asshole to the heroine, Ava. All throughout the first third of the book, he’s a dick. I’m glad that I stuck with the story because boy does Caleb come around as the story develops.

I really loved seeing the romance between Caleb and Ava develop. I loved how strong Ava was and how determined she was to not let Caleb ruin her day, her life, her everything…and I really loved seeing Caleb fall in love with Ava because we definitely see it. He goes from dickhead to smitten kitten and then head over heels in love and I loved seeing the change overcome him.

“Why are you staring at me like that?”

Lifting his head away from his hand, he shrugged. “Nothing else is worth looking at when you’re in the room.”

It’s been a couple of weeks since I last read his book and I’m still smitten my damn self over Caleb Scott. That accent, the soft way he treats Ava once she’s finally in all the way with him. The way that he can’t stop thinking about her, wanting to spend time with her, and then coming back to Boston from Scotland for her. It’s all good stuff with him and that’s basically why he’s this week’s book boyfriend.

If you haven’t read his book yet, I recommend fixing that because Caleb Scott is a one of a kind hero that is alpha at the same time that he’s a sweetheart. On top of how awesome Caleb is, his heroine Ava is pretty fantastic too. She’s strong, smart, with a great head on her shoulder and she’s inherently kind. My favorite kind of heroine. She doesn’t take any of Caleb’s shit and is constantly putting him in his place and I loved watching their romance unravel. So, so good.

Hero Casting

This is how I pictured Caleb at the airport bar. All sexy, blond asshole hero. Love!

Samantha Young made her way onto my auto-buy list when I started reading her On Dublin Street series. With each release, I read and fell in love with her writing more and more. It hasn’t always been a good ride but the books that I did love, have held her firmly on my auto-buy list. This book sounds like all kinds of good and I trust Samantha Young to deliver a fabulous contemporary romance that I won’t be able to put down.

I can’t wait to jump in. Don’t forget to pre-order your copy!

Week in Review (91)

Posted June 25, 2018 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

It was another quiet week for me. I hung out with my bestie and my family, read some books, my nook tablet 7 was delivered and that thing isn’t my favorite tablet (too slow) but for $30, it’s not that bad though it’s not great either. *shrugs* I also attended a baby shower and a beach wedding, I was happy because we didn’t play any of those cheesy baby shower games that I hate and there was a taco lady so I ate all of the tacos. Yum. It was really good to see family that moved to Utah as just last summer, we were all together celebrating our kids graduating high school together. 🙁

Did you guys see the trailer for the movie adaptation of Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before? This trailer was my favorite thing that happened this week. The casting (especially the love interest casting), the movie itself, it all looks so good and I’m ever so hopeful that Netflix will deliver something way better than Passionflix has been putting out this year. Woo hoo!!

Now, onto the books…

I am Comet Caldwell.

And I sort of, kind of, absolutely hate my name.

People expect extraordinary things from a girl named Comet. That she’ll be effortlessly cool and light up a room the way a comet blazes across the sky.

But from the shyness that makes her book-character friends more appealing than real people to the parents whose indifference hurts more than an open wound, Comet has never wanted to be the center of attention. She can’t wait to graduate from her high school in Edinburgh, Scotland, where the only place she ever feels truly herself is on her anonymous poetry blog. But surely that will change once she leaves to attend university somewhere far, far away.

When new student Tobias King blazes in from America and shakes up the school, Comet thinks she’s got the bad boy figured out. Until they’re thrown together for a class assignment and begin to form an unlikely connection. Everything shifts in Comet’s ordinary world. Tobias has a dark past and runs with a tough crowd—and none of them are happy about his interest in Comet. Targeted by bullies and thrown into the spotlight, Comet and Tobias can go their separate ways…or take a risk on something extraordinary.

I’m starting this book today and I’m low key excited to jump in because it sounds like such a good book. I enjoyed Samantha Young’s other YA book so I’m hopeful that this one will be another fabulous read. Wish me luck!

What I Read

More than Words by Mia Sheridan | DNF
Burn for Me (Hidden Legacy #1) by Ilona Andrews | 5 out of 5
Wicked and the Wallflower (Bareknuckled Bastards #1) by Sarah MacLean | 4.25 out of 5
One Small Thing by Erin Watt | 3.75 out of 5

So last week, I started More than Friends and was having a hard time staying interested in it. I was hopeful that the story would pick up so I’m really bummed that it never did. I just, I don’t even know how to explain why I couldn’t get into it other than to say that the heroine was boring and I could not connect with the love interest at all. I just..couldn’t so I put it down on Wednesday and moved on.

I read Burn for You for my book club tonight and I’m super excited to discuss this book with my book club because they better love this choice because I chose it..haha.

I also read Wicked and the Wallflower by Sarah MacLean and it’s the first book of MacLean’s newest historical romance series, the Bareknuckled Bastards series. It was good stuff. I’m looking forward to the next one for sure.

I finished up my reading week with One Small Thing by Erin Watt and finished that in one sitting. I stayed mad at so many people in the book, but I completely adored Chase so I kept reading to see how things got better and they did so I’m glad. I loved how firm the ending was. There wasn’t any of that make your own ending crap that we usually get from YA’s. I hate those.
