The Weekly Recap (141)

Posted November 4, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

This week was Halloween and Caiden was in town with his Mom to attend our family Halloween party for the first time. We were super excited for him to get here and he was the cutest Hulk Smash ever! It got dark really fast in California so we didn’t get a lot of pictures while the sun was up. Our neighborhood was hoppin’ too because we were still getting trick or treaters after 9pm. We had a good turn out for our party, the food was good and we had family in town for Chase’s senior night the next night.

Friday was for Chase. Big Uce graduates from high school this year and he’s playing in his last football season so we’ve been supporting him every week at the stadium, cheering for him and tailgating and you know, being together as a family. For Chase’s Senior Night, the family came out strong. Chloe, Markus, and Caiden came in from Utah. Uncle Chris and Aunty Ingrid came in from Vegas and then we had all of our local families in attendance as well. And we all got to walk out on the field with him during the Senior Recognition Night. It was a good game, even though Chase got into it with some guy from the other team but only the other guy got kicked out of the game because he actually swung on Chase.

All of my teams got wins on Friday. Chase won his game against South High School and the Lakers beat the Dallas Mavericks. Big ups for L.A. 🙂

Here’s our family picture at Chase’s senior night. This was before Chase got over to us. While we’re taking this picture, Chase is passing out candy lei’s to all of his homies.

Saturday was for our Roberts family baby shower for Niko and Britt and Logan! It was a fun baby shower and I was part of the kitchen crew. I didn’t mind my job since I got the recipe for a bomb ass broccoli salad that everyone loves. So as you can see, it was a busy week for me, which is why I only read one book this week.

Now, onto the books…

Eye Candy Friday: Dean Walker from Getting Played by Emma Chase

Posted October 25, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

Eye Candy Friday is all about the heroes and heroines that I’m loving and wanting to spotlight right now. Sometimes I’ll do full-on gush fest posts on why I love these guys, sometimes I’ll post pictures of what I think they look like and that’s it but if they’re featured here, the one thing that will be constant is I loved the hell out of them and want everyone to know. Thanks for coming along for the ride.

Today’s eye candy is Dean Walker from Emma Chase’s Getting Played. I listened to the audiobook and drooled my way through his entire book. He was everything that I hoped he’d be from the first book and maybe, even more. I loved the way that he fell in with Lainie. The way that the minute he decided he was all in, he didn’t waver from that decision…and he didn’t decide to be a part of his baby’s life. He decided to take on Lainie, Lainie’s son Jason and their new baby. He wanted them all and I loved how hard he tried to prove his love for them without actually saying the words. He tried to show them by his actions that they were it for him and I was here for all of that. He won me over so completely that it’s days later and I’m still thinking about him. He’s one of the good ones and that’s the main reason he’s this week’s Eye Candy Friday.

The Wednesday Post (20)

Posted October 23, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 10 Comments

Can’t Wait Wednesday is hosted by Tessa over at Wishful Endings and it was based on Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

I decided that I’m going to do a mashup of the Can’t Wait Wednesday and WWW Wednesday posts here on my blog. I’m bringing them together and calling it The Wednesday Post. Here’s what I’m up to this week.

WWW Wednesday

What did you recently finish reading?

Blitzed (The Playbook #3) by Alexa Martin

It took me a lot longer to read this book than I thought it would take and I think it was because for a huge chunk of the book, it’s slow. Nothing really happens and the characters just weren’t that interesting for me. That bums me out because I was so looking forward to this book and while I did enjoy it, I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as I enjoyed Fumbled. Oh well, you can’t win them all.

Getting Played (Getting Schooled #1) by Emma Chase

I listened to this at work yesterday and from beginning to end, I was wrapped up in Dean and Lainie’s romance. I adored everything about this book from the romance, Lainie’s pregnancy, Dean trying to be there for Lainie any way that he can while at the same time, trying to forge a bond with Lainie’s son Jason. This book had me cheering for these characters to figure out how to be together so hard that when the book came to an end, I needed a cigarette. LOL, this book was good.

What are you currently reading?

Four Days of You and Me by Miranda Kenneally

I’m getting ready to start this book today. I can’t wait because Miranda Kenneally finally has another book coming out and I love her stuff so I’m all the way in on this one. Fingers crossed that it’s another winner.

What do you think you’ll read next?

A Madness of Sunshine by Nalini Singh
The One for You (The Ones that Got Away #4) by Roni Loren

I’m plugging away on my review pile right now so these two books are up. I’ve heard good things about the Nalini Singh and I’m super looking forward to reading Kincaid’s book so I’m pretty stoked for my reading pile for the rest of the week.

Series: The Bromance Book Club #2

Braden Mack thinks reading romance novels makes him an expert in love, but he’ll soon discover that real life is better than fiction.

Liv Papandreas has a dream job as a sous chef at Nashville’s hottest restaurant. Too bad the celebrity chef owner is less than charming behind kitchen doors. After she catches him harassing a young hostess, she confronts him and gets fired. Liv vows revenge, but she’ll need assistance to take on the powerful chef.

Unfortunately, that means turning to Braden Mack. When Liv’s blackballed from the restaurant scene, the charismatic nightclub entrepreneur offers to help expose her ex-boss, but she is suspicious of his motives. He’ll need to call in reinforcements: the Bromance Book Club.

Inspired by the romantic suspense novel they’re reading, the book club assist Liv in setting up a sting operation to take down the chef. But they’re just as eager to help Mack figure out the way to Liv’s heart… even while she’s determined to squelch the sparks between them before she gets burned.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I’m all kinds of excited for Mack and Liv’s book. Adams has a great writing style that’s easy to fall in with so I’m really looking forward to what she’s got in store for Liv and Mack. I can just see their chemistry sizzling and their romance steaming up my kindle. I can’t wait! This book comes out on March 10, 2020 so mark your calendars, I’m sure this book is not to be missed!

So, what are you reading this week? Anything good? Anything that you want to rant about?
Are you looking forward to Undercover Bromance? What other books are you looking forward to releasing this year?

The Weekly Recap (139)

Posted October 21, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

This week was a pretty eventful week for me, personally. Chase’s football game, a bunch of family fundraisers and yesterday, James the Mormon (who is not going to be going by that name anymore) came to our house for lunch before he spoke at a fireside for the kids. I was able to steal away for a couple of hours to have a proper catch up with my two besties and that was a lot of fun. On top of that, I got some books read and that also makes me happy.

Now, onto the books…

Maxwell has finally met an opponent that he can't best in this new football romance from the author of Fumbled.

According to Brynn Larson, Maxwell Lewis is more trouble than he's worth. She doesn't care if he's a football god with a rock-hard body that brings most women to their knees. After an encounter that ends poorly, she's not interested in giving him a second chance. The last thing Brynn expects is for him to turn up at her bar months later, hat in hand. It doesn't matter if he brings more customers to her business--she's still not going on a date with him.

Maxwell knows he made a mistake. He'd been waiting to make his move on Brynn since the day he laid eyes on her and he was finally ready to go for it until he screwed up. He wishes he could tell her the truth about what happened that night, but he just can't. He can't tell anyone, so he'll make amends and hope she'll forgive him.

Brynn's not like other women, though. Playing for the Mustangs doesn't impress her and gifts make her scoff. Max will have to bring his A game if he hopes to win her over.

I thought I would have had time to finish this book over the weekend but I spent the time with my family instead of reading so I’m going to finish this one up today. Not much is happening right now so I’m hoping things pick up and that something happens other than Brynn being mad at Maxwell. Fingers crossed.

Only in my family could a professional hockey player earning seven million dollars a year be considered a slacker.

I’m at the height of my athletic career. Yet my arrogant brother is always trying to recruit me into the family business: a global security company so secretive that I don’t even know its name.

Pass, thanks. I don’t need a summer job.

But the jerk ambushes me with a damsel in distress. That damsel is Alex, the competitive, sassy girl I knew when we were kids. Now she’s a drop-dead gorgeous woman in deep trouble.

So guess who’s on a flight to Hawaii?

It’s going to be a long week in paradise. My job is keeping Alex safe, while her job is torturing me with her tiny bikinis. Or maybe we’re torturing each other. It’s all snark and flirting until the threat against Alex gets serious. And this jock must become her major league protector.

Moonlighter is a stand-alone novel. No cliffhangers, no prior experience necessary. Contains: hackers, hockey players, and a hotel room with only one bed.

Today’s eye candy is Eric Bayer from the Brooklyn Bruisers and now, The Company series. He gets his true love in Sarina Bowen’s upcoming release Moonlighter. I can’t wait for you guys to read his book. It’s good and exactly what I wanted for Bayer. I just adored him to pieces.

Hero Casting

This is how I pictured Bayer when he was escorting Alex in Hawaii. All put together nicely and drool-worthy.

The Company Series

Have you read Moonlighter yet? If no, are you looking forward to reading Moonlighter? Do you love Eric Bayer as much as I did? Who is your favorite character this week?
