Eye Candy Friday: West Ravenel from Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas

Posted June 7, 2019 by Rowena in Books | 2 Comments

Eye Candy Friday is all about the heroes that I’m loving and wanting to spotlight right now. Sometimes I’ll do full-on gush fest posts on why I love these guys, sometimes I’ll post pictures of what I think these guys look like and that’s it but if they’re featured here, the one thing that will be constant is I loved the hell out of these guys and want everyone to know. Thanks for coming along for the ride.

New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas delivers a scintillating tale of a beautiful, young widow who finds passion with the one man she shouldn't...

Although beautiful young widow Phoebe, Lady Clare, has never met West Ravenel, she knows one thing for certain: he's a mean, rotten bully. Back in boarding school, he made her late husband's life a misery, and she'll never forgive him for it. But when Phoebe attends a family wedding, she encounters a dashing and impossibly charming stranger who sends a fire-and-ice jolt of attraction through her. And then he introduces himself...as none other than West Ravenel.

West is a man with a tarnished past. No apologies, no excuses. However, from the moment he meets Phoebe, West is consumed by irresistible desire...not to mention the bitter awareness that a woman like her is far out of his reach. What West doesn't bargain on is that Phoebe is no straitlaced aristocratic lady. She's the daughter of a strong-willed wallflower who long ago eloped with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent—the most devilishly wicked rake in England.

Before long, Phoebe sets out to seduce the man who has awakened her fiery nature and shown her unimaginable pleasure. Will their overwhelming passion be enough to overcome the obstacles of the past?

Only the devil's daughter knows...

Today’s boyfriend is Weston Ravenel from Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas. You can read my review for his book here. It’s months later and I’m still thinking about him because he’s the bomb. I adored his personality, I adored the way that he was with Phoebe’s kids and I really adored the way he was with Phoebe. What I really loved about West is that we saw the big change happen in him from book 1 to his book, book 5, he became a man’s man who shouldered responsibility and tried to be better and was. He came a long way and I admired the hell out of him for it. He didn’t shy away from recognizing what an asshole he was but he tried to be better and he was. He’s one of my favorite heroes of the year.

Hero Casting

This is exactly who I pictured when reading about West. The girls over at Under the Covers book blog casted him first and it’s seriously perfect.

The Wednesday Post (13)

Posted June 5, 2019 by Rowena in Books | 8 Comments

Can’t Wait Wednesday is hosted by Tessa over at Wishful Endings and it was based on Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

I decided that I’m going to do a mashup of the Can’t Wait Wednesday and WWW Wednesday posts here on my blog. I’m bringing them together and calling it The Wednesday Post. Here’s what I’m up to this week.

WWW Wednesday

What did you recently finish reading?

Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin

This was great. It was colorful and had just the right amount of angst to go with charming and smart characters and really, it just rocked my socks. I’m so glad that I read it.

What are you currently reading?

If It Makes You Happy by Claire Kann

I didn’t get a chance to read last night or I would have been finished with this one but so far, I’m really liking it. Winnie is the bomb and her Mama Bear attitude is just fantastic. I’m so rooting for her right now.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen

I will always want to read more Sarah Dessen so I’m pretty stoked to finally jump into this one. I just know that I’m going to love it.

They call him the Duke of Ruin.

To an undaunted wallflower, he's just the beast next door.

Wealthy and ruthless, Gabriel Duke clawed his way from the lowliest slums to the pinnacle of high society—and now he wants to get even.

Loyal and passionate, Lady Penelope Campion never met a lost or wounded creature she wouldn’t take into her home and her heart.

When her imposing—and attractive—new neighbor demands she clear out the rescued animals, Penny sets him a challenge. She will part with her precious charges, if he can find them loving homes.

Done, Gabriel says. How hard can it be to find homes for a few kittens?

And a two-legged dog.

And a foul-mouthed parrot.

And a goat, an otter, a hedgehog . . .

Easier said than done, for a cold-blooded bastard who wouldn’t know a loving home from a workhouse. Soon he’s covered in cat hair, knee-deep in adorable, and bewitched by a shyly pretty spinster who defies his every attempt to resist. Now she’s set her mind and heart on saving him.

Not if he ruins her first.

Tessa Dare never steers me wrong with fantastic historical romances so I will probably always want to read her stuff. I’m really enjoying this series and I just know this book is going to be just as great as the other books in this series and I can’t wait to read it.

The Wallflower Wager comes out on August 13, 2019 so mark your calendars, lovely readers! I’m sure this book isn’t to be missed!

So, what are you reading this week? Anything good? Anything that you want to rant about?
Are you looking forward to The Wallflower Wager? What other books are you looking forward to releasing this year?

The Weekly Recap (125)

Posted March 18, 2019 by Rowena in Books, Features | 10 Comments

I’m in Utah, y’all!!

I’m spending this week taking care of this little one so that his parents can work and still be with him on his birthday this coming Thursday. Can you believe little Caiden will be turning 2 this week? I can’t. I remember when he was born and then when he was a baby. Compared to how skinny he is now, he was such a chunky baby. Still super adorable but chunky too.

It’s been a pretty eventful week for me at work. I’ve spent a lot of time trying to wrap weekly stuff up so that my backup and boss don’t have to deal with any of that stuff this week while I’m out.

Meghan is completely done with basketball now. Meghan lost her game at Nationals last week so they were knocked out and in her conference, only one team remains this week. Good luck to Masters University!

Bren and Ken had their Sophomore Showcase this past Friday that Delene drove them to and they said they had fun, and the rest is up to the coaches that were there to see them. I wonder why the showcase was so early since a bunch of NAIA teams were at Nationals and didn’t have anyone out at the showcase to see these girls. That was kind of dumb but whatever. Bren and Ken are the most excited about getting their nails done finally. They haven’t been able to get their nails done since they kept breaking during basketball but nothing is holding them back now. Haha.

Now, onto the books…

In 1960s Florida, a young Cuban exile will risk her life--and heart--to take back her country in this exhilarating historical novel from the author of Next Year in Havana, a Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick.

Beautiful. Daring. Deadly.

The Cuban Revolution took everything from sugar heiress Beatriz Perez--her family, her people, her country. Recruited by the CIA to infiltrate Fidel Castro's inner circle and pulled into the dangerous world of espionage, Beatriz is consumed by her quest for revenge and her desire to reclaim the life she lost.

As the Cold War swells like a hurricane over the shores of the Florida Strait, Beatriz is caught between the clash of Cuban American politics and the perils of a forbidden affair with a powerful man driven by ambitions of his own. When the ever-changing tides of history threaten everything she has fought for, she must make a choice between her past and future--but the wrong move could cost Beatriz everything--not just the island she loves, but also the man who has stolen her heart...

I finished Next Year in Havanah by Chanel Cleeton last night so I’m going to start this book today. I’ve got a lot on my plate today so I’m hoping to start this one tonight when I’m off babysitting duty and have some time to myself. Wish me luck since I can’t wait to start Beatriz’s book!

What I Read

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels #1) by Ilona Andrews | 3 out of 5
Getting Lucky Number Seven (Taking Shots #1) by Cindi Madsen | 4 out of 5
Anatomy of a Player (Taking Shots #2) by Cindi Madsen | 3 out of 5
Next Year in Havanah by Chanel Cleeton | 4.25 out of 5

My favorite read of the week goes to Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton. That ended up being a super good story and I enjoyed pretty much all parts of it. I’ll be buddy reviewing it with Ames so stay tuned for that.

Magic Bites and Anatomy of a Player were both slow starts and I did like them, I just liked them least of the books read. I am looking forward to reading the next books in both series so that’s something.

What I Reviewed

Bad Reputation (Bad Bachelors #1) by Stefanie London | 1 out of 5
Overnight Sensation (Brooklyn Bruisers #5) by Sarina Bowen | 4.5 out of 5
