The Wednesday Post (13)

Posted June 5, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 8 Comments

Can’t Wait Wednesday is hosted by Tessa over at Wishful Endings and it was based on Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

I decided that I’m going to do a mashup of the Can’t Wait Wednesday and WWW Wednesday posts here on my blog. I’m bringing them together and calling it The Wednesday Post. Here’s what I’m up to this week.

WWW Wednesday

What did you recently finish reading?

Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin

This was great. It was colorful and had just the right amount of angst to go with charming and smart characters and really, it just rocked my socks. I’m so glad that I read it.

What are you currently reading?

If It Makes You Happy by Claire Kann

I didn’t get a chance to read last night or I would have been finished with this one but so far, I’m really liking it. Winnie is the bomb and her Mama Bear attitude is just fantastic. I’m so rooting for her right now.

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen

I will always want to read more Sarah Dessen so I’m pretty stoked to finally jump into this one. I just know that I’m going to love it.

They call him the Duke of Ruin.

To an undaunted wallflower, he's just the beast next door.

Wealthy and ruthless, Gabriel Duke clawed his way from the lowliest slums to the pinnacle of high society—and now he wants to get even.

Loyal and passionate, Lady Penelope Campion never met a lost or wounded creature she wouldn’t take into her home and her heart.

When her imposing—and attractive—new neighbor demands she clear out the rescued animals, Penny sets him a challenge. She will part with her precious charges, if he can find them loving homes.

Done, Gabriel says. How hard can it be to find homes for a few kittens?

And a two-legged dog.

And a foul-mouthed parrot.

And a goat, an otter, a hedgehog . . .

Easier said than done, for a cold-blooded bastard who wouldn’t know a loving home from a workhouse. Soon he’s covered in cat hair, knee-deep in adorable, and bewitched by a shyly pretty spinster who defies his every attempt to resist. Now she’s set her mind and heart on saving him.

Not if he ruins her first.

Tessa Dare never steers me wrong with fantastic historical romances so I will probably always want to read her stuff. I’m really enjoying this series and I just know this book is going to be just as great as the other books in this series and I can’t wait to read it.

The Wallflower Wager comes out on August 13, 2019 so mark your calendars, lovely readers! I’m sure this book isn’t to be missed!

So, what are you reading this week? Anything good? Anything that you want to rant about?
Are you looking forward to The Wallflower Wager? What other books are you looking forward to releasing this year?

The Wednesday Post (6)

So I’ve been playing around with things that I want to do on this blog and I’ve been wanting to do a mid-week check in so that I can chat about the books that I’m reading that week. What’s working for me and what’s not but I also want to keep a running list of books that I cannot wait to get my greedy little hands on. I decided that I’m going to do a mashup of the Can’t Wait Wednesday and WWW Wednesday posts here on my blog.

What did you recently finish reading?

Devil’s Daughter (The Ravenels #5) by Lisa Kleypas

I zipped right through this book. It was just as good as I hoped it would be and West? West was freaking everything. The ending felt a bit rushed but I enjoyed the rest of the book so much that I didn’t even care. Oh goodness, this book was sooo good.

What are you currently reading?

The Risk (Briar U #2) by Elle Kennedy

This book showed up on my kindle last night as I was finishing up Devil’s Daughter so of course I immediately started reading it once I was done. It’s Jake and Brenna!!

What do you think you’ll read next?

The Assist (Smart Jocks #1) by Rebecca Jenshak

I need to get this one read pronto so that I can work on my buddy review for this one with Ames. I’m a sucker for a sports romance and a basketball romance? Yes, please!

The Wednesday Post (6)One Fine Duke
by Lenora Bell
Series: School for Dukes #3
Published by Harper Collins, Avon on July 23, 2019
Genres: Historical, Romance
Point of View:Alternating Third Person
Pages: 384
Format: eARC

The third book in USA Today bestselling author Lenora Bell's sexy School for Dukes series is a Dracula-Northanger Abbey mash-up, with a dash of James Bond's Miss Moneypenny.

Ready.

Raised in the countryside by her overprotective uncle, Miss Mina Penny's dream of a triumphant London season is finally here. She determined her perfect match long ago: Rafe Bentley, the wickedest rake of them all. There's only one very large, very unyielding obstacle: Rafe's brother Andrew, the reclusive Duke of Thorndale.

Aim.

This was supposed to be simple. Duke goes to London. Duke selects suitable bride. Love match? Not a chance. But when Andrew meets Mina, she complicates everything. How can a lady armed with such beauty and brains fall for his irresponsible degenerate of a brother? Andrew vows to save her from heartbreak and ruin, no matter the cost.

Desire!

But Mina is no damsel in distress. She's daring, intuitive, passionate...and halfway to melting Andrew's cold heart. And although Mina thought she knew exactly what she wanted, one breathtakingly seductive kiss from Andrew changes everything. Now Mina must decide between long-held dreams and dangerous new desires. Could her true destiny lie in the arms of a duke?

I just read two fantastic historicals in the last week so I’ve got historicals on my mind. This one sounds like a good one and I’m really enjoying this series so I’m very much looking forward to Mina’s story.

So, what are you reading this week? Anything good? Anything that you want to rant about?

The Weekly Recap (120)

Posted February 4, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

It was another quiet week for me. Just basketball and nerdy reading tracker things that I’m doing because my freaking friend Holly drives me crazy (Love you, bitch). Now that I’ve started trying to bring this reading tracker to life, I don’t want to do much else until it is complete and functioning the way that Holly and I envisioned.

Brenna and Kenna won both of their games this week and Meghan’s team split their two games. They won the game they were supposed to win but they lost the game that they needed to win. Oh well. Brenna was one of the top leading scorers for her last game and that’s always nice. Kenna led in assists on Friday and that’s pretty dope too because a lot of her dimes were so nice looking.

Now, onto the books…

New York Times bestselling author Lisa Kleypas delivers a scintillating tale of a beautiful, young widow who finds passion with the one man she shouldn't...

Although beautiful young widow Phoebe, Lady Clare, has never met West Ravenel, she knows one thing for certain: he's a mean, rotten bully. Back in boarding school, he made her late husband's life a misery, and she'll never forgive him for it. But when Phoebe attends a family wedding, she encounters a dashing and impossibly charming stranger who sends a fire-and-ice jolt of attraction through her. And then he introduces himself...as none other than West Ravenel.

West is a man with a tarnished past. No apologies, no excuses. However, from the moment he meets Phoebe, West is consumed by irresistible desire...not to mention the bitter awareness that a woman like her is far out of his reach. What West doesn't bargain on is that Phoebe is no straitlaced aristocratic lady. She's the daughter of a strong-willed wallflower who long ago eloped with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent—the most devilishly wicked rake in England.

Before long, Phoebe sets out to seduce the man who has awakened her fiery nature and shown her unimaginable pleasure. Will their overwhelming passion be enough to overcome the obstacles of the past?

Only the devil's daughter knows...

I meant to start this over the weekend but like all of the plans I make, this one fell through. I didn’t read much of anything over the weekend but I’m hoping to change that tonight because it’s West and Phoebe. I need to read their romance pronto!

The Weekly Recap (116)

Posted January 7, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 8 Comments

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve updated this feature on the blog so I figured, it was time to get back to it. In the time since I last updated, Christmas came and went, New Years came and went and Caiden came and went. The BYU kids came home for the holidays (well after Christmas but before New Years) but they’re back at school and our days have gotten back to normal.

My car was in the shop for a little bit because I needed to replace my power steering pump and hose and also my alternator and then my battery because my power steering pump was leaking directly onto my alternator and messed everything all up so I had to pay to get that fixed so my car is back and everything is a lot better. I think. I’m broke as shit but everything is fixed so thank goodness.

Now, onto the books…

Dear Lady Truelove...

My twin brother and I need a new mother, though Papa insists he'll never marry again. Must be nice, brainy, and fond of cats...

Lady Truelove may be London's most famous advice columnist, but James St. Clair, the Earl of Kenyon, knows his wild young sons need a tutor, not a new mother. They need a man tough enough to make his hellions tow the line, and James is determined to find one.

Miss Amanda Leighton, former schoolteacher and governess, knows she has all the qualifications to be a tutor. And while female tutors are unheard of, Amanda isn't about to lose the chance at her dream job because of pesky details like that. If Lord Kenyon insists on hiring a man, then she has only one option.

Jamie isn't sure what to make of his new employee, until he realizes the shocking truth—beneath the ill-fitting suits, his boys' tutor is a woman. An unconventional, outspoken, thoroughly intriguing woman. Despite Amanda's deception, he can't dismiss her when his boys are learning so much. Yet Jamie, too, is learning surprising lessons—about desire, seduction, and passionate second chances.

I really, really need to get a jump start on my reading for this year but I blame Game of Thrones. I’m reading this book but I’m mostly watching season 3 of Game of Thrones. I had forgotten how much rage I felt every time Joffrey was on the screen. As for the book, I’m enjoying it so far. The heroine is pretending to be a boy to be a tutor for a set of boy twins…and the back and forth between her and the hero is fun.

What I Read

The One You Fight For (The Ones that Got Away #3) by Roni Loren | 4 out of 5
Famous in a Small Town by Emma Mills | 4 out of 5
Illegally Yours (Laws of Attraction #2) by Kate Meader | 4 out of 5
Playing for Keeps (Heartbreaker Bay #7) by Jill Shalvis | 4 out of 5
99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne | 4 out of 5

I enjoyed all of the books that I read in the last couple of weeks. I think my favorite of the bunch though would probably be The One You Fight For by Roni Loren. It was hard to get through but I enjoyed it and I cried a lot. I thought Loren handled that romance so well. I don’t have a least favorite, not this week anyway.

Can’t Wait Wednesday: The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai

Can’t Wait Wednesday is hosted by Tressa at Wishful Endings and it was based on the meme Waiting on Wednesday that was hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

Can’t Wait Wednesday: The Right Swipe by Alisha RaiThe Right Swipe
by Alisha Rai
Series: Modern Love #1
Published by Harper Collins, Avon on July 2, 2019
Genres: Contemporary, Romance
Pages: 384

Alisha Rai returns with the first book in her sizzling new Modern Love series, in which two rival dating app creators find themselves at odds in the boardroom but in sync in the bedroom.

Rhiannon Hunter may have revolutionized romance in the digital world, but in real life she only swipes right on her career—and the occasional hookup. The cynical dating app creator controls her love life with a few key rules:

- Nude pics are by invitation only
- If someone stands you up, block them with extreme prejudice
- Protect your heart

Only there aren't any rules to govern her attraction to her newest match, former pro-football player Samson Lima. The sexy and seemingly sweet hunk woos her one magical night... and disappears.

Rhi thought she'd buried her hurt over Samson ghosting her, until he suddenly surfaces months later, still big, still beautiful—and in league with a business rival. He says he won't fumble their second chance, but she's wary. A temporary physical partnership is one thing, but a merger of hearts? Surely that’s too high a risk…

I discovered Alisha Rai’s writing not too long ago and I really liked everything that I’ve read from her so far so when this book came onto my radar, I immediately put it on my wishlist because yes, I want to read this damn book. The blurb is a good one and I’m all about reading about this modern love with ghosting and hot matches. Add to that, this adorable cover and I’m completely in. Sign me up!
