Eye Candy Friday: Heidi Pepper from Overnight Sensation by Sarina Bowen

Posted June 14, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

Eye Candy Friday is all about the heroes and heroines that I’m loving and wanting to spotlight right now. Sometimes I’ll do full-on gush fest posts on why I love these guys, sometimes I’ll post pictures of what I think they look like and that’s it but if they’re featured here, the one thing that will be constant is I loved the hell out of them and want everyone to know. Thanks for coming along for the ride.

Everyone knows the girl is off limits. But it's so good to be bad.

There's this girl... Heidi and I have been trading hungry looks all year, and everything she does makes me smile. But I don't do girlfriends, and I certainly can't get involved with the league commissioner's daughter. I need shots on goal, not a hookup and a widely misunderstood paparazzi photo. Can I resist her, though? The way she teases me should be a game penalty for interference with my libido.

There's this guy...Jason wants me, but he won't admit it. That man looks at me the way a hockey player eyes the lunch buffet after practice--and I love it. But when victory is finally within my grasp, I blow it and humiliate myself. Even then I can't even avoid him--as the team intern, I'm in constant view of his hard body and cocky smile. I need another chance. Jason Castro is about to learn the true meaning of an overnight sensation.

Today’s girl crush is Heidi Pepper from Overnight Sensation by Sarina Bowen. She was the bomb. She made this book for me. She grew up with money and she never went without but that wealth came with a lot of strings and she wasn’t living her truth so when her father starts acting like a real dickhead, trying to bring her to heel, things picked up for me. My rage grew but my admiration for Heidi grew because there was nothing she wouldn’t do, no job too small for her that would break her. She worked her ass off for every single thing that she got and I loved the family that she created for herself with the Bruisers. I just adored her to pieces.

You can read my joint review of Heidi’s book with Holly, here. Spoiler alert: We both loved it. 🙂

Heroine Casting

I think Ashley Benson would bring Heidi’s character to life really well. She’s got the right look and I can totally see her cleaned up and dressed down. She can work an office setting just as well as she can get down and dirty with the maintenance crew. She’s definitely my Heidi Pepper.

You'd think a billion dollars, a professional hockey team and a six-bedroom mansion on the Promenade would satisfy a guy. You'd be wrong.

For seven years Rebecca has brightened my office with her wit and her smile. She manages both my hockey team and my sanity. I don't know when I started waking in the night, craving her. All I know is that one whiff of her perfume ruins my concentration. And her laugh makes me hard.

When Rebecca gets hurt, I step in to help. It's what friends do. But what friends don't do is rip off each others' clothes for a single, wild night together.

Now she's avoiding me. She says we're too different, and it can never happen again. So why can't we keep our hands off each other?

Nate and Becca have been working together almost from the very beginning. Nate was off-limits when Becca first came to work for him and they have become really close friends. Becca was there for Nate when he needed a friend (not an assistant) and she’s become one of the most important people in his life. I really enjoyed seeing him trying to hide his feelings from her and everyone else that they work with.

Everything worthwhile is complicated.

He wasn’t fooling anyone though. Nate and Becca coming together was complicated because of the fact that they work together. They both had reservations about coming out about how they feel about each other but it was so much fun seeing Nate let himself be in love with his assistant.

“My life is constant noise. Meetings and obligations and two thousand employees. It’s great, but it’s loud. When you kiss me, everything goes quiet. That’s the only time I can forget everyone else.” I roll to the side and put my lips right beside her ear. “And when I’m inside you, we’re all that matters. I crave it so much.”

*swoon*

Nate was the bomb. If you haven’t read his book, fix that because a rich nerd is what you’ve been missing in your life.

Here’s what Nate looks like in my head.
