Train to Busan is a harrowing zombie horror-thriller that follows a group of terrified passengers fighting their way throughout a countrywide viral outbreak, trapped on a suspicion-filled, blood-drenched bullet train ride to the Safe Zone…which may or may not still be there.

One Sunday, during quarantine, the kids were trying to figure out which movie to watch and decided on this one. I sat down to watch it with them and had no clue what the movie was about, who was in it, and once it started, what anyone was saying. None of that stuff seemed to matter once the movie started because I was hooked almost from the jump.

This movie is about an overworked and low key neglectful father named Seok Woo who takes his daughter, Su An, to see her mother in Busan. He seems to be the kind of person who puts work above everything in his life, including his family, but when he can’t ignore his daughter’s cry for her mother, he books them both tickets on a train to Busan to reunite them. When a freaking zombie outbreak happens, the only safe place is on the train and as far as anyone can tell, Busan. So they all press forward in hopes to beat the zombies to Busan.

Through the beginning of the movie and even when things start to heat up on the train, I looked like Gong Yoo did in the gif above. I kept wanting him to get his shit together, stop being a selfish piece of shit and pull his weight. When the zombies attack, Seok Woo is still only worried about himself, about his work, and about his daughter. In that order. When the zombies start getting closer and closer, Seok Woo really comes into his own. He rises from that fine ass piece of shit in the beginning, into one of the good guys and I would have loved the hell out of him, if in the end, he didn’t freaking go out the way that he did. I was yelling at the TV screen so much because come on, you idiot! He lived through every single one of the zombie attacks and just kept finding ways to overcome them and then when all is said and done, he’s just a freaking idiot.

I will say that this movie was entertaining as shit. It was filled with great characters, fantastic bad guys and there’s a lot of action and adventure going on so there’s much to enjoy. My favorite characters were these guys:

When the big guy gets pissed off at Seok Woo, I was glad because I wanted to kick Seok Woo’s fine ass right in the nuts. Seeing the three of these guys ban together to save as many people as they can from the zombies made for a good time. They were kicking ass and taking names and my heart went out to each of them as they fought in each fight, at the same time they were grieving their friends and family. I hear that there’s going to be a sequel to this movie and that Gong Yoo is in it so I’m going to watch it as soon as I can because I love me some Gong Yoo. He is at the top of my Korean loves list. Hot damn, that man is gorgeous.

I would so drink his dirty water so I’m glad that I watched this movie because there was fantastic eye candy, some zombie fighting action and a cute little girl that I wanted to save my damn self. There’s enough in this movie for everyone to enjoy and I definitely recommend it. This would have gotten 5 stars if that ending had been different. I love everything except the bad guys, the zombies, and that ending. Ehhh…

Review: Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom

Posted July 10, 2018 by Rowena in Reviews | 2 Comments

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)
Starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda
Director: J.A. Bayona
Release Date: 22 June 2018
Rating: PG-13
Run Time: 2:08
Movie Type: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

Three years after the Jurassic World theme park was closed down, Owen and Claire return to Isla Nublar to save the dinosaurs when they learn that a once dormant volcano on the island is active and is threatening to extinguish all life there. Along the way, Owen sets out to find Blue, his lead raptor, and discovers a conspiracy that could disrupt the natural order of the entire planet. Life has found a way, again.

This week’s Tuesday $5 movie was for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and it was another fantabulously enjoyable movie. Not even the entire row of tweens that sat in front of us that were rude, loud, disruptive and got on my hot damn nerves from the time the movie started until the very end, could ruin my enjoyment of the movie. It was that much fun for me. I enjoyed the dinosaurs so much and even though my heart hurt for that long neck dinosaur, I still liked the movie.

The human stuff in this movie was a lot more interesting than the last one and the dinosaurs were off the chains great. It was good to see Claire and Owen back in action again and I was surprised with how much more I liked Claire this time around. Owen was still the same goofy but dinosaur caring person that I adored in the last movie so his addition to this movie was great for me.

My favorite part of the movie was Blue comes to Owen and Maisie’s rescue. What a smart dinosaur Blue was and he’s my absolute favorite thing about these movies. I loved Baby Blue and Grown-up Blue is just as great for me. The bond he has with Owen is real and I enjoyed seeing them together again.

The action and the dinosaurs really made this movie for me. I laughed, I got mad and then I rejoiced throughout this movie so overall, it was a solid movie in my opinion. The characters were charming and there were plenty of them to like and seeing what Claire wanted to do for the dinosaurs was sweet. Seeing her and Owen try to right the wrongs of the humans to give these dinosaurs their freedom was something that I could get behind. From beginning to end, I was invested in what was going on and while there were some parts that I thought were cheesy or flat out dumb, I still enjoyed the movie and would recommend.

While the Parr family has accepted its collective calling as superheroes, the fact remains that their special heroism is still illegal. After they are arrested after unsuccessfully trying to stop the Underminer, their future seems bleak. However, the wealthy Deavor siblings of Devtech offer new hope with a bold project to rehabilitate the public image and legal status of Supers, with Elastigirl being assigned on point to be the shining example. Now having agreed for now to stay at home to care for the kids, Mr. Incredible finds domestic life a daunting challenge, especially with baby Jack-Jack’s newly emerged powers making him almost impossible to manage. However, Elastigirl soon has her own concerns dealing with the menace of a new supervillain, Screenslaver, who is wreaking havoc with his mind control abilities. Now, Elastigirl must solve the mystery of this enemy, who has malevolent designs on the world with the Parr family and friends key targets of this evil.

Every Tuesday, my family chooses a movie and heads to AMC’s $5 Tuesday movies and last weeks movie was Incredibles 2. I’m not even going to lie, I’ve been looking forward to this movie all freaking year and I’m happy to report that it was everything that I hoped it would be and a little more.

So, we’re back in the Parr’s world and they’ve come to terms with their superhero powers but they have to keep everything under wraps because superheroes are illegal. They’re staying in a motel and trying to figure out their next move after an undercover superhero save goes bad. They need to get back to work, the kids need to get back to school and they need to find a more permanent place to live. When ElastiGirl is offered a superhero job that will help change the world’s view of superheroes, ElastiGirl goes to work and Bob becomes a stay at home Dad.

Most of the movie is set around ElastiGirl trying to save the world without making a huge mess and Bob trying to figure out how to be there for his kids and handle the home life. Their worlds are flipped on their heads because Helen is usually the one that stays home with the kids but I really enjoyed seeing the two of them figure things out as the movie progressed. Seeing Bob realize that Helen’s Mom gig is hard was funny and it was heartwarming to see him develop relationships with his kids. And seeing Helen kick ass at every turn was fantastic.

I loved seeing everyone again and it’s hard to pick a favorite because I adored them all…well, except for the bad guys.

Jack Jack seriously stole the movie though. He had me laughing in every single scene that he was in and finally seeing what his powers were was freaking great. I loved seeing Violet again and seeing her be a hormonal teenager was great fun, especially seeing Bob deal with that on top of Dash’s commo core Math problems and his overall billy bad ass tendencies, it was all just one laugh out loud moment after another and I was so here for it. When the movie ended, I was super happy with the entire thing. I loved seeing the Parr’s kick ass again and take down the bad guys. I loved seeing FroZone, meeting the new Supers and just everything. I really enjoyed this movie and highly recommend.

Movie Review: Iron Man

Posted April 5, 2018 by Rowena in Reviews | 4 Comments

Iron Man (2008)
Starring: Robert Downing Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges, Leslie Bibb, Clark Gregg
Director: Jon Favreau
Release Date: 2 May 2008
Rating: PG-13
Run Time: 2:06
Movie Type: Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

Tony Stark. Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. Son of legendary inventor and weapons contractor Howard Stark. When Tony Stark is assigned to give a weapons presentation to an Iraqi unit led by Lt. Col. James Rhodes, he’s given a ride on enemy lines. That ride ends badly when Stark’s Humvee that he’s riding in is attacked by enemy combatants. He survives – barely – with a chest full of shrapnel and a car battery attached to his heart. In order to survive, he comes up with a way to miniaturize the battery and figures out that the battery can power something else. Thus Iron Man is born. He uses the primitive device to escape from the cave in Iraq. Once back home, he then begins work on perfecting the Iron Man suit. But the man who was put in charge of Stark Industries has plans of his own to take over Tony’s technology for other matters.

It’s been years since I’ve watched this movie so because I couldn’t remember a damn thing about it, I re-watched it to kick start my Marvel Movies Project and while I enjoyed it, the Iron Man portion of the Marvel movies will never be my favorite.

The movie starts off with Tony Stark living it up and not having a care in the world. He’s a rich party boy who cares only about what’s in front of him and not much else. He’s also a genius that makes high power military grade weapons and sells them so he’s got fans but he’s also got haters. Things take a turn for Tony when he’s getting ready to speak at a weapons presentation and he’s attacked and wakes up in enemy lands with a car battery attached to his heart. Seriously.

This is probably only the second time that I’ve watched this movie and I’ve got to say that I enjoyed the movie a lot more this time around than I did the first time. Tony Stark and Pepper Potts were a lot more fun this time around and seeing Tony trying to do right by everyone was so rewarding when he finally got into that Iron Man suit and started doing what he was meant to be doing.

The actual story for Iron Man isn’t that original but Robert Downing Jr. did the role justice. He was the perfect Tony Stark and his humor brought a lot of enjoyment to my viewing of this one. I enjoyed the slight romance between him and Pepper and I enjoyed seeing him take the bad guys down so I’m glad that I went back and watched this one. I liked this movie fine but I just like the other movies more. Now, I’m even more excited to watch the rest of the movies.
