Who needs mistletoe?

Most people wouldn't think of a bad Santa case as the perfect Christmas gift. Then again, Molly Malone, office manager at Hunt Investigations, isn't most people, and she could really use a distraction from the fantasies she's been having since spending the night with her very secret crush, Lucas Knight. Nothing happened, not that Lucas knows that--but Molly just wants to enjoy being a little naughty for once . . .

Whiskey and pain meds for almost-healed bullet wounds don't mix. Lucas needs to remember that next time he's shot on the job, which may be sooner rather than later if Molly's brother, Joe, finds out about them. Lucas can't believe he's drawing a blank on his (supposedly) passionate tryst with Molly, who's the hottest, smartest, strongest woman he's ever known. Strong enough to kick his butt if she discovers he's been assigned to babysit her on her first case. And hot enough to melt his cold heart this Christmas.

Jill Shalvis has been on my go-to list for a long time. Throughout her entire Lucky Harbor series, I loved book after book after book in that series and that hasn’t changed much in this series. The Heartbreaker Bay series is shaping up to be a fun one with fabulous characters and a little community that will charm the socks right off of you. Hot Winter Nights is the sixth book in that series and it features an older brother’s friend trope that I’m a sucker for. I cannot wait for Lucas and Molly’s story to come out because I’m sure that Shalvis will deliver another fabulous romance. Gah, I can’t wait for this book to come out.

Eye Candy Friday: Pace Martin from Double Play by Jill Shalvis

Posted October 27, 2017 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

It’s been a cool minute since I’ve read this book, but with me having baseball fever right now, I wanted to feature a baseball playing hero this week for Eye Candy Friday. I haven’t been focusing on my reading lately since the MLB Playoffs started and my reading has suffered so I’ve decided that maybe I should be reading baseball romances and so far, that’s working out a lot better for me.

Pace Martin is this week’s hero because he’s hot stuff and I absolutely adored him in his book.

Double Play (Pacific Heat #1) by Jill Shalvis

Getting to first base is a cinch…But getting home will take a grand slam… Pace Martin is the ace pitcher for the Pacific Heat. He’s got the arm, the experience, and the wins. He’s also got the pain, the pressure, and the possible end of his career looming over him. The last thing he needs now is a distraction, even if it comes in the form of a tough, beautiful, tell-it-like-it-is writer who sees past his defenses. Holly Hutchins knows a good story when she sees one, and the tall, dark, and slightly attitude-challenged Pace Martin fits the bill. But when she realizes there’s more at stake than just a win, she begins to see the jock in a different light. Pace and Holly begin a seductive game, but in the face of unexpected betrayal and challenges, they’ll have to find the courage to swing for the fences…
Pace Martin was the star pitcher of the Pacific Heat baseball team and he’s not at all comfortable with the fame that has followed him since he joined the big league. He’s not getting any younger and he wakes up with new aches and pains that he could easily shake off in his younger days. With a hot shot reporter trying to dig for a story on him, he’s got to keep his wits about him to stay one step ahead of her.

Pace was a lot of fun in this book and he was also a sweetheart. Sure, he was the typical alpha hero that came off as a jerk at times but he’s one of the good ones. This book is a fun contemporary romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously and Pace had hella chemistry with Holly so that made for fun reading.

This is how I remember him…

“When everyone just shook their heads, he unbuttoned his shirt and, oh good Lord, shrugged out of it, bunching it up to slip beneath her head like a pillow. Don’t look at him, she told herself. Don’t look— She looked. Sweet Jesus.”
Here’s what Pace Martin looks like in my head…in the summer after spending lots of time in the sun, which made his hair lighter. ;P
