Monthly Recap: May 2016

Posted June 1, 2016 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

The month of May was for Club Basketball and the Psy/Changelings series.
1. Niko Celebrates His 2nd Birthday: One of my good friends Foti has the cutest son in the whole world named Niko and he turned 2 in May. He had a farm themed birthday party at Foti’s house and Brenna, Luke and I went. Luke had an absolute blast and made a bee-line for the petting zoo the minute we stepped into the backyard. It was a fun party, saw some people we went to high school with and had some amazing Greek kabobs made by Foti’s Samoan Mom. 2. Crepes with my girls: Every month, I make a point to meet up with my girls for some food and girl talk. This month, Hanah drove me and Mulu in her brand spankin’ new car to get some Crepes at Frostbites in Long Beach. Therese didn’t make it but it’s okay cause the crepes were the bomb. It’s always fun getting together with Mulu and Hanah because they crack me up. I laugh so much when I’m with them. 3. Brenna went to see Beyonce’: I didn’t go to see Beyonce myself but Brenna did. She was a little miffed about going since she met a boy at Youth Conference but she wasn’t so mad after the concert. She said that the concert was amazing and that Beyonce’ slayed. She’s been listening to Beyonce morning, noon and night ever since then too. I’m over Beyonce but the girls aren’t. I thought it was pretty cool.
1. Game of Thrones: Jon Snow came back so I started watching this show again. If ever they decide to kill off Jon Snow or Khaleesi then I’m out again but for now? I’m in. There’s a lot going on right now and I’m curious to see how it’ll all come together. I’m really liking the theories of a Jon Snow and Khaleesi pairing. You know me, all about the romance and I’m always trying to pair people up. Those two are the ones I want ruling the seven kingdoms in the end…together. I’m curious what will come of Sansa, Arya and Bran since I just know they’re going to kill Rickon. RIP Hordor and Summer. 🙁 2. Jane the Virgin: I’m re-watching this show from the beginning…again. I can’t help myself. I like this show a lot. I love Rafael even more than I love the show so when Chach was looking for something to watch on Netflix last week, I was all about Jane the Virgin. I’m still not over this past season finale. I’m more mad about Bruno Mars singing that song at the wedding. I’m not Team Michael. Sorry guys. 3. Vampire Diaries: I heard that next season will be the last season for this show and I’m excited to see how the writers are going to wrap this show up. I know that Julie Plec said that there will be happy endings for everyone but I’m wondering if Bamon will happen or nah…Steroline has a lot of stuff to work on so I’m going to look forward to that and I’m curious about Elena. Will she come back for the series finale?
1. Can’t Stop the Feeling by JT: I can’t get enough of this song. It dropped on May 6th and I’ve been listening to it ever since. It’s going to be my favorite song for the summer of 2016, I just know it. It’s a great song and I don’t care what Ames says. 🙂 2. Send My Love by Adele: I’m still listening to a lot of Adele but with more focus on Send My Love since it’s such a catchy song. April was all for All I Ask while May was more Send My Love. Such a great album! 3. Leaving Me by Sammy J: This song is about Return Missionaries getting Dear John’d on their mission and it’s another great song that got a lot of play time in May. Love it!
1. Troublemaker by Linda Howard | 4.25 out of 5 2. Good Girl (Love Unexpectedly #2) by Lauren Layne | 3.5 out of 5 3. 26 Kisses by Anna Michels | 3.5 out of 5 4. Bonds of Justice (Psy/Changelings #8) by Nalini Singh | 5 out of 5 7. Play of Passion (Psy/Changelings #9) by Nalini Singh | 4 out of 5 8. Kiss of Snow (Psy/Changelings #10) by Nalini Singh | 5 out of 5 9. Tangle of Need (Psy/Changelings #11) by Nalini Singh | 4 out of 5 10. Heart of Obsidian (Psy/Changelings #12) by Nalini Singh | 5 out of 5 11. Shield of Winter (Psy/Changelings #13) by Nalini Singh | 4.5 out of 5 12. Shards of Hope (Psy/Changelings #14) by Nalini Singh | 4.5 out of 5 My favorite reads of the month go to Bonds of Justice, Kiss of Snow and Heart of Obsidian by Nalini Singh. I loved all of those books equally. Max, Hawke and Kaleb were everything! My least favorite read of the month goes to 26 Kisses by Anna Michels. It was interesting and it was a good book overall but I liked all of the other books I read last month more. My main gripe was the kissing challenge went on for too long. I wished she would have chucked the challenge to the side once she realized she no longer needed to do it. I didn’t think it was fair to Killian.
Summer of Sloane by Erin L. Schneider This One Moment by Stina Lindenblatt Good Girl (Love Unexpectedly #2) by Lauren Layne Sidebarred (Legal Briefs #3.5) by Emma Chase Dirty (Dive Bar #1) by Kylie Scott Calling It by Jen Doyle Ignite (Wildwood #1) by Karen Erickson
Lots and lots of goodies received and bought in the month of May. As always, I’m looking forward to all of these books.
EOS Cucumber Hand Lotion: I’m constantly washing my hands when I’m at work because I’m always touching things and with all of the hand washing, my hands dry out. I’ve carried many travel size lotions in my purse but I haven’t ever been as wild about them as I am about the EOS Cucumber lotion. This lotion keeps my hands moisturized and it smells so freaking good without being overpowering. This lotion rocks! There you have it…my Month of May. How did your month go?

Monthly Recap: April 2016

Posted May 3, 2016 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

Monthly Recap I kept meaning to start this up at the beginning of the year but obviously that didn’t happen but better late than never right? I’ll just jump into it now. I’m going to take a page out of a blog that I like So Obsessed With and just kind of bullet point my way through last month. What I Did
I actually went out and did stuff this month. Lots and lots of different stuff. April was a busy month for me but it was also a really fun month too. 1. Sammy J concert with the girls: I went to an island reggae concert that featured Sammy J from New Zealand or Australia (one of those) and Tenelle and The Late Onez from Southern California. I scream sang along to every single one of Sammy J’s songs and I fangirled all over him too. I wasn’t the only one either. Hanah did her fair share of scream singing and fangirling. She almost lost her voice too. Mulu was too scared to lose her beautiful Cleopatra looking headpiece so she just swayed to all of the music. Ha! 2. My first visit to The Ripped Bodice: My book pals Holly, Tracy and Kat came to town for lunch, book talk and a trip to The Ripped Bodice. The Ripped Bodice is a new bookstore in Culver City that is actually the only all romance bookstore in the nation. We got to see cardboard cut out Fabio, talk books in the prettiest bookstore I’ve ever been in and talk shop with the owners of the store. It was a great bookish outing. I loved it and plan to take all of my friends back. 3. Chloe’s Bridal Shower: The family came into town for our annual Relay for Life (Team RJ!) and while we had everyone here, we threw a bridal shower for Chloe since she’s getting married next month! Blanche overhauled the backyard, cleaned the house from top to bottom and we were all given jobs as far as food went. The turn out was good, the food was fantastic and the setting was beautiful. Lots and lots of fun! What I Watched I’m not much of a movie watcher. I watch TV shows and I read books but even with my TV shows, I’m losing interest and giving up on a lot but the shows that I’m still watching religiously are…
1. Chicago Fire: Every week this show finds a new way to make my heart hurt. The latest episode of this show with the detective and JJ and Kelly Severide and just everything. Love! I’m also low key shipping Jeremy Gilbert (sorry Borrelli, you’ll always be a Gilbert to me) and Sylvie Brett which is surprising since I wanted Brett to end up with Severide. *shrugs* 2. Chicago PD: I’m so here for Linstead. Every week, all the time. I’m also low key interested in where they take Burzek/Burman (is that Roman and Burgess’ ship name?) storyline because wow. Poor Adam. I’m all about the ships! 3. Chicago Med: I’m so here for Manstead. I’m also kind of low key shipping either Rhodes and Maggie then Choi and Reese. Loving all of the different shipping potentials but on top of that stuff, I really love each case that these guys work on. Even when I want to punch Will in the balls because he’s so “I know best” attitudey, I still love it. The whole show. Love! 4. Vampire Diaries: Season 7 hasn’t really panned out the way that I wanted it to but now that everything is coming together, it’s interesting but all of my ships are out of whack and I need that shit to be fixed, like pronto! Steroline! Bamon! Fix this please! What I Listened To
1. Sammy J: Leading up to the concert and then after the concert, I listened to all things Sammy J. From Waiting to Hey to Leaving Me to Don’t Say Goodbye, I listened to it all. All month long. Brenna got tired of him real quick. 2. All I Ask by Adele: For the past couple of months I’ve been listening to this song a lot. I just love it so much. Like a whole lot of much. 3. She Caught the Train by UB40: Toward the end of April, I went on a UB40 kick. Talk about throwback. I love these guys! What I Read 1. The Natural History of Us (Fine Art of Pretending #2) by Rachel Harris | 3.75 out of 5 2. Paper Princess (The Royals #1) by Erin Watt | 4 out of 5 3. What I Got
Holy cow that’s a lot of books to acquire in a month but I’m more than up for the challenge of reading them all eventually. Lots and lots of good stuff in that madness too. I love books! What I Loved
Piano Tiles 2: This damn app has taken over my life. I’m not even that good but I play every chance that I get. I once stayed up until 2am just trying to get more songs to play. I love this shit!
