Monthly Recap: March 2018

Posted April 3, 2018 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

What I Did

Brenna turns 19. Brenna turned 19 last month and we celebrated first thing that morning with breakfast with the family before she headed to Mt. San Jacinto to take an L in the second round of playoffs.

Caiden turns 1. Baby Caiden comes to California by himself! Caiden’s parents rushed to Samoa to be with family after the death of one of their family members and Caiden came to stay with us. You guys, coming home to this little guy has been such a delight. His happy, smiling face and his cute baby voice shrieking has been such a treat and we were lucky enough to celebrate his first birthday. What a fun night that was, too. Chuck E. Cheeses, pizza, endless salad bar and cake! Best party!

Meghan went to Nationals, Brenna and Kenna advanced to Round 2. This is what I chose to picture this month. The girls work so hard during the season and try to do as little as possible in the off-season and their work paid off. They each had such great seasons and though it wasn’t easy, they worked through all of their issues and were proud of the seasons when all was said and done. Meghan’s team made it to the Elite Eight and Bren/Ken’s team made it to the second round so there is much to be proud of and I can’t wait for next season.

What I Got

What I Got for Review

What I Listened To

March was for old-school slow jams that I used to love. I listened to a lot of Mariah Carey, Brian McKnight, New Edition, Justin Timberlake & NSYNC, Pebbles, Eric Benet, Tamia, etc… Baby making music, haha. I blame all of that on my friend Theresa, who sent me the Mariah Carey March Madness thing. You’ll read all about that below.

What I Watched on TV

My favorite TV shows right now are The Resident, 9-1-1, and For the People. I’m still watching Jane the Virgin, Chicago PD and Grown-ish but it’s more out of loyalty than anything.

What Movies I Watched

Iron Man (2008) | 4 out of 5
The Secret Scripture (2016) | 4 out of 5
Not Cinderella’s Type (2018) | 3 out of 5
Home Again (2017) | 4 out of 5
Thor (2011) | 4.5 out of 5

What I Loved

My bestie Therese and I used to be obsessed with Mariah Carey songs from a really early age. I’m talking elementary school, middle school, high school, after high school, we loved us some Mariah Carey songs. So when Therese sent this March Madness bracket to us (she sent it to me and her two sisters), we tackled this and it was hard. We shared our results with each other and I laughed a lot, comparing, arguing and just having an absolute blast with old friends. I loved it and it was my favoritest thing of the month.

There it is, the month of March in my life. How was your month? What were your favorite books, movies and TV shows? Did you do anything fun with your family? Share in the comments.

TV Tuesday (1)

Posted August 15, 2017 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

I watch a lot of TV. Like, a lot a lot of TV. I also have a lot of opinions about the shows that I’m watching so each week (when I remember to do them), I’ll be talking about a few of the shows that I’m watching.

What I Watched

Game of Thrones: Out of all of the shows that I watch, I think I’m most obsessed with this one. Everything that we’ve been working toward from Season 1 is finally happening and each week, it’s non-stop for me. I’m loving this season so much. I’m loving the chemistry between Jon and Daenerys, I’m loving the Stark reunions and I’m anxious for Little Finger to be offed already. There’s so much goodness going on right now that I don’t even know where to start. I loved this week’s episode too. So good!

gif credit

Animal Kingdom: A couple of weeks ago, I was watching old clips of the show, Felicity. I was in my Ben and Felicity feels and Animal Kingdom came onto my radar because that’s the show that Scott Speedman is currently working on so I watched the first episode and I’ve been hooked ever since. It took me a few days to watch the entire season 1 and then catch up to where the show is now and every week since I’ve been hooked to my seat. This show is addicting and it’s bad and it reminds me of Sons of Anarchy and I love it.

I started this show because of Scott Speedman but I stayed for Ben Robson. Holy hot damn, that man is beautiful.

gif credits

Younger: This show is always all of the Tumblrs that I follow so I wanted to check it out. I’ve been shipping Nico Tortorella’s character with Hilary Duff’s character since before I started watching the show. LOL. Now that I’m watching the show…I’m still shipping them and I don’t give a damn that it’s not the preferred ship. I don’t even care that Hilary Duff’s character is besties with Nico’s character’s ex-girlfriend and that her hooking up with him is considered against girl code. I’m just sitting over here, waving my Josh and Kelsey flag, waiting for them to fall in love. Ha!

gif credits

Suits: I’ve got to be honest, I love this show. I’ve been a huge supporter of this show since the first season but I have been completely underwhelmed by this season. I’m just not as amped up as I used to be with these characters. The whole Donna and Harvey thing is pissing me off because dude…Harvey and the therapist came out of freaking nowhere. You can’t tell me that he isn’t in love with Donna because he damn well is and the way that he’s been acting all season long makes me want to punch him at every turn. Mike’s character, ugh. Rachel hit it on the nose this week when she said, “What does your word even mean anymore?” Get your shit together, Mike! Then there’s Louis. Freaking Louis. He’s in a bad way and it’s painful to watch him every week lose his shit over the stupidest of things. I just need this show to get better already.

What TV Shows are you watching and loving (or hating) this week? Do you watch any of the shows that I watch? What did you think of this week’s episodes of any of the shows listed above?

Review: Chicago Justice, Season 1

Posted June 7, 2017 by Rowena in Reviews | 6 Comments

TV Shows have wrapped for the season and I wanted to write down my thoughts on the shows that I’m watching. You’ll be seeing a lot of that in the coming weeks as I watch a lot of shows. You’ve been warned. 🙂

Starring: Philip Winchester, Jon Seda, Joelle Carter, Monica Barbaro, Mark Jefferies
Creators: Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Matt Olmstead, Dick Wolf
Release Date: March 1, 2017
Run Time: 1hour
TV Type: Crime, Drama

The State’s Attorney’s dedicated team of prosecutors and investigators navigates heated city politics and controversy head-on, while fearlessly pursuing justice. As they take on the city’s high-stakes and often media-frenzied cases, they must balance public opinion, power struggles within the system, and their unwavering passion for the law.

Chicago Justice is the fourth installment in the One Chicago franchise and since I watch all of the other shows, I knew that I was going to watch this one. The first season kicked off a little later in the fall season than the other shows but I thought that the show really hit the ground, running.

So this show follows the State’s Attorney’s team as they go to battle day in and day out in the courtroom. The lead prosecutors are Peter Stone and Anna Valdez and they work with a familiar Chicago PD face, Antonio Dawson and his new partner, Laura Nagel to battle the bad guys in court. Every week, there’s a different case and the case’s that they’re working are really ripped from real life stories and I really enjoyed the entire season. This is one of the shows that I watched faithfully every week and I don’t see that stopping next season. The cases they worked this season were interesting to me. There was a case where an innocent girl was killed in a war that started on social media. There was another case where a developer is killed in a crane accident that was actually intentional and his wife had a part in planning the “accident”. Lots and lots of interesting cases were worked.

If I had a gripe, it would be the way that the season ended. There’s no cliff hanger that leaves us wondering what’s going to happen next season. The finale was just another regular episode with one case that was worked and then solved. I’m sure that was done because it hasn’t been picked up for another season but dude…whoever is in charge of making those decisions, RENEW THIS SHOW ALREADY!! I want to see these characters get another season.

Favorite Ship: Peter, Anna, Antonio and Laura make a great team and the romantic in me is trying to figure out who is going to start pairing up. The only couple that I’m shipping is Peter and Anna. I enjoy seeing them on camera together and like the chemistry between them. Sorry Nagel, I’m still low key shipping Antonio with Sylvie Brett from Chicago Fire.

Favorite Episode: I don’t really have a favorite episode because I enjoyed them all. The episode where Anna’s integrity is called into question was an interesting one. I still have loads of questions about that one. Are we going to find out what Anna’s real connection with the judge was? Was he her lover or her father?

Favorite Character: I don’t have one. I like them all. I like that they’re all flawed and yet, trying to do right by the people in their cases. I have a big ol’ crush on Peter though. He’s hot.

Overall, this is an interesting show with a great cast that I want to see more of. I want to see these characters grow and interact more with the folks from the other Chicago shows. I want to see more Gabby Dawson on this show. She should be more involved in his life and he in hers. I also want to see more of the different characters backgrounds. I want to meet Laura’s daughter, see what’s going on with Dawson and his kids, meet Peter’s friends and Anna’s family. I want all of that.

ETA: So I just found out that NBC cancelled Chicago Justice. I’m so mad that I just might stop watching any new NBC shows from now on. I hate getting hooked on a show and they cancel them. It’s happened too many times. Grrrr.

Review: Sense8, Season 2

Posted May 17, 2017 by Rowena in Reviews | 6 Comments

Starring: Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Brian J. Smith, Freema Agyeman, Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra, Toby Onwumere
Creators: J. Michael Straczynski, Lana Wachowski, Lilly Wachowski
Release Date: May 5, 2017
Rating: TV-MA
TV Show Type: Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi

Sense8 tells the story of eight strangers: Will (Smith), Riley (Middleton), Capheus (Toby), Sun (Bae), Lito (Silvestre), Kala (Desai), Wolfgang (Riemelt), and Nomi (Clayton). Each individual is from a different culture and part of the world. In the aftermath of a tragic death they all experience through what they perceive as dreams or visions, they suddenly find themselves growing mentally and emotionally connected. While trying to figure how and why this connection happened and what it means, a mysterious man named Jonas tries to help the eight.

Meanwhile, another stranger called Whispers attempts to hunt them down, using the same sensate power to gain full access to a sensate’s mind (thoughts/sight) after looking into their eyes. Each episode reflects the views of the characters interacting with each other while delving deeper into their backgrounds and what sets them apart and brings them together with the others.

I spent the weekend binge-watching the second season of Sense8 and while it took me a while to catch up (it’s been a while between seasons), I’m glad that I stuck with the show because this season really packed a punch that hit me all over the place. In the end, I was an emotional wreck but I’m so pumped for the third season that better be forthcoming.

So the first season left us on edge because Whispers (the bad guy) is now in Will’s head and the only way that our cluster knows how to keep Whispers from finding and capturing Will is to drug him up so for a huge chunk of the season, Will is drugged out of his mind. So the main focus of the show is trying to evade Whispers and BPO, the company trying to capture Will and his cluster mates for experiments. Will and Riley are in hiding while the others are still living their lives and are available to help when needed.

Individually, each sensate is going through something. Nomi is still on the run from all of her shenanigans from last season, Lito is dealing with the aftermath of being outed as gay in his acting world, Sun is plotting her revenge on her brother, Kala is dealing with being married to a man when she’s in love with another, Capheus is dealing with his rising status in his small town and Wolfgang, he’s dealing with a whole bunch of stuff.

I really enjoyed being in this world again. The first season set the tone for this show and I think the second season kept the party going. I thought the second season was excellent and the pacing was well done. You get a lot of face time from each sensate and each sensate’s story adds to the overall arc of the show in a way that was interesting and just flat out good. I love seeing the bond between each sensate grow over the course of the season and I love how they help each other out. There’s a balance in their cluster where everyone is equal in their worth and I think the writers did a fabulous job of letting the viewers see each sensate learn and grow throughout the season. They’re a lot stronger than they were last season. You can see how much they’ve grown into their abilities and their bond. They’re not strangers anymore but a unit and they work incredibly well together.

The dynamic in the cluster is pretty interesting too. Some are dealing with being alone in the world and the cluster is there to remind them that they’re not alone. Others are dealing with so many different people in their minds and the cluster is there to remind them that they don’t have to do everything on their own. It’s okay to ask for help…and they all need help from time to time. Their cluster is a family and nobody gets left behind.

When Will decides to stop hiding, I about stood up and applauded because, for me, that was a long time coming. I loved seeing each of the sensates grow in their determination to fight the good fight together. I’m pretty anxious for the next season so I’m seriously hoping that there is one coming. I’ve got my fingers, my toes, my eyes all crossed because another season needs to happen. I’m so thirsty for more.

The acting was fantastic, I even liked the new Capheus. If I had to pick a favorite, I think my favorite this season would be Sun. She’s freaking awesome and I love, love, love her. Everyone is pretty great. I’m glad to see that Riley has really come full circle from her woe is me crap from last season. I will rejoice when Kala finally gets her head out of her ass and divorces her husband then goes to get her man Wolfgang. Lito is still the bomb and cracks me up at every turn and Nomi is still a boss lady with her hacking genius self. Capheus is really growing into a full character that I’m taking notice of and seriously, the cast is so wonderfully refreshing and diverse that I’m just a huge fan of all of it.

If you haven’t watched this show, you should fix that. This is one of the best shows that I’m watching and I can’t wait for more.

Monthly Recap: November 2016

Posted December 1, 2016 by Rowena in Features | 10 Comments

Guys! We’re almost done with 2016. In a matter of months, my daughter will be a high school graduate. I just can’t even deal right now.

What I Did

team-wilson-gang-basketball-2016-2017

1. Lady Saxons Kick Off Potluck: Basketball season is under way and November kicked it all off. Every year, our North High Lady Saxons basketball program kicks their basketball season with a team potluck where the official rosters for all levels of basketball are introduced, meeting and greeting the newbies and being social with the oldies takes place and this year, between Brenna and Cheridan, we brought like 20 people with us. It was a good time and I’m excited for our season.
2. Lady Seahawks Kick Off Luau: Makenna’s annual fundraising luau was on the same day as our Lady Saxons Kick Off Potluck so our day started at Redondo. Makenna’s a senior this year so she did the senior siva Samoa and she did a great job. I wasn’t even mad that I had to make up a dance for her to do in less than a week. We pulled it out and she did great.
3. I turned 36: November 13th was my birthday and I turned 36. My bestie made me dinner and we hung out, laughed it up with my girls Bren and Ken. It was a low key event and I was glad. I’m a homebody so low key is how I roll. It was a good birthday so yay for another year!
4. Weendizzle turned 1: November was also my blog anniversary. I started this blog last year and have kept it up for the most part of a year. It’s grown and went through some face lifts but I’m happy with what I’m doing here (it’s more personal than anything else I’m doing right now) and I plan to keep it up in the new year.

What I Watched

Moana: My review for Moana is here and I really enjoyed it. From beginning to end, it was cute!

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life: I’ve been looking forward to this ever since I found out we were getting it and while I enjoyed it as a whole, I was disappointed too. I’ll be writing up a review of it that will go up next week so be on the look out for that. 🙂

Teen Wolf: It’s the last season for my favorite TV werewolves and supernatural friends and they’re really packing a punch with everything going on. I’m probably loving the hell out of everything because my ship is finally sailing loud and proud!! I have been in Stydia heaven for three weeks now. Ha!

gif set credits

Started from the bottom, now we here. 🙂

This is me right now:

I’m Beyonce, of course. Ha! I’ve waited 6 seasons for Lydia Martin to stop messing around and get her man. Looks like it’s our turn. Yay!!

What I Listened To

Moana Soundtrack: I’ve been listening to this one mostly because of my 7 year old nephew Luke (who I’ve been spending a lot of time with lately) and Brenna. Luke came to work with me last week and wanted to listen to it for 3 hours and we did. He sang his bootleg version (wrong lyrics) of every song at the top of his lungs…AT MY OFFICE! He’s lucky everyone thought he was cute. Ha!

Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic Album: This album dropped a couple of weeks ago and I haven’t listened to much else since. I’m loving every song, the feel good vibe and just Bruno Mars in general. Luke has also been heard singing the following lyrics from Versace of the Floor, “Let’s just kiss til we’re naked, baby” Ummm…yikes. Ha!

What I Got

What I Loved

sticker-stash

Planner Stickers. The entire month of November was filled with me trying to find my happy place again with all things Happy Planner. Toward the end of the month, I started getting into the bullet journal videos. I am completely inspired for next year. Since I’m now much of an artist (I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler), I’m drawn to the sticker sets that are just too cute for words. I’ve browsed Etsy more in the last month than anything else, except probably YouTube and I’ve bought so many stickers and stickers sets that I’m going to starve since I’m spending all of my lunch money but I can’t help it. I love this crap.

There you have it, folks. The month that was November 2016 for me. How was your month? What are you watching, listening and loving these days?
