Students at the Korean National Police University, Ki Joon (Park Seo Joon) and Kee Yeol (Kang Ha Neul) have a long way to go before they become official officers of the law but that doesn’t stop them from dreaming. One their way back from a club one night, they happen to witness a kidnapping and immediately jump into action, alerting the local officers of what just happened. However, swamped with other cases, the local police station has no time to take on the case. Knowing the critical hours are quickly dwindling, Ki Joon and Kee Yeol jump into action.

Tracking down the kidnappers, the pair of cadets find that the kidnappers are part of a gang running an egg harvesting ring. With dozens of girls locked up for harvesting, Ki Joon and Kee Yeol break into the gang’s hideout, determined to rescue the girls. However, the thugs prove too much for the amateur cops. Beaten down and locked up themselves, the pair are embarrassed by their own inadequacies.

After finding a way to escape, the two harden their resolve, knowing they may be those girls’ only chance of rescue. Despite being advised to let the professionals handle the case, Ki Joon and Ki Yeol continue with their investigation, determined to find the criminals and bring them to justice. Can a pair of police academy cadets really take down one of the country’s most sinister crime organizations?

An action-packed romp with lots of laughs, “Midnight Runners” is a 2017 action comedy film directed by Jason Kim.

This freaking movie had me laughing so much. It’s part of Park Seo Jun’s movie list so I knew that I was going to watch it and I knew that I was going to like it because hello, I’m biased to anything Park Seo Jun but I wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did. I laughed so much and so loud throughout this entire movie that I thought I was going to wake up the neighbors. Park Seo Jun and Kang Ha Neul were an absolutely delightful pair. I thought they played really well off of each other and the chemistry between the two of them is unmistakable. They made this movie-watching experience a wild and crazy ride and I enjoyed every single minute.

What made this movie completely watchable is that though this movie is a comedy, there’s a surprisingly darker themed story going on throughout that captivated me from the jump. So this movie follows two young men, Park Ki Joon and Kang Hee Yeol, who joined the Korean National Police University to study to become cops. They meet pretty early on and aren’t real big fans of the other but after Ki Joon helps Hee Yeol to safety after a jogging injury, Hee Yeol promises Ki Joon the best pork belly and perfectly marbleized steak that he’ll ever eat and Ki Joon happily carries Hee Yeol to safety with a smile on his face. And just like that, they’re best friends.

On their first night off, the boys head to the club and while they get ready, they freaking used Febreze for their cologne, hahaha. So they head to the club to pick up some girls and I’m really surprised that they didn’t get any. Both Park Seo Jun and Kang Ha Neul are good looking guys and yet they struck out at every turn in the club. So after the night is done, they’re making their way back to school when they see a girl that is their type and stare at her, hoping she’ll turn around and notice them because then it would be a sign from God but instead of turning around, the boys witness her being abducted and they give chase.

They’re pretty young and still hopeful of their future as cops so when they lose the van that took the girl in pink, they run to the nearest police station for help. Only there’s not much the cops can do because they don’t have a name for the girl and the girl hasn’t been reported as missing. Not wanting to give up, the boys decide that they’re going to find the girl on their own. They can’t wait for the cops because it’s the critical hour and they have to work fast if they have any chance of finding the girl and saving her. Hee Yeol is the brains of this operation and Ki Joon is the brawn. Together they make the funniest and the most endearing crime-fighting duo. Over the course of their investigation, they uncover a human trafficking ring and know that they’re in way over their heads and need help but at every turn, they are rejected but they’re determined to find the girls and help free them so they get to work.

And by get to work, I mean…

Haha, my guys were fantastic in this movie. Both Park Seo Jun and Kang Ha Neul really shined in this movie. The humor, the action, the heartwarming ending all made for a wonderfully entertaining and charming watch. The eye candy is through the roof as well so ladies and interested gents would definitely be happy with that. 🙂 This was a flat out great movie and I highly recommend it.

Review: She Was Pretty

Also Starring: Go Jun Hee, Park Yoo Hwan, Lee Il Hwa, Ahn Se Ha, Shin Hye Sun, Hwang Seok Jeong, Im Ji Hyun, Seo Jeong Yeon
Year Released: 2015

Country: Korea

Watched it For: Park Seo Jun

This is a punny romantic comedy about 4 unique youngsters who fall in love. Once a popular girl, Hye-jin grew into freckles and curly hair. Sung-joon, a chubby kid, turned into a walking God. Ha-ri, the girl who seems to have everything lacks some sex appeal. Shin-hyuk, is a guy with regurgitative humor who has something to hide.

My boo thang Park Seo Jun is in this one so it was one of the first k dramas that I watched. It’s a romantic comedy that I really enjoyed. The entire cast charmed me right out of my socks and the main romance was super sweet and even though there were moments, where I was bashing my head against my desk, the overall show was entertaining as hell.

So this show is about Sung Joon and Hye Jin, two childhood friends who grew apart but are about to be reunited. Sung Joon was fat growing up and in school, he was always made fun of and bullied but the school’s pretty girl, Hye Jin, befriended him and was a support to him in their childhood years. When Sung Joon moves away, they keep in touch as best as they can but the years pass and they lose touch. Years later, they’re both older and their roles are reversed. Sung Joon grew up to be good looking as hell and Hye Jin succumbed to her father’s genes and grew up to have rough, red skin and kinky curly hair. Having grown up really pretty, Hye Jin has gotten used to her new role as a not so good looking woman and she’s even grown into her skin but all of that goes up in flames when Sung Joon calls her and tells her that he’s back in Korea and would love to meet up with her. At first, she’s super excited because her childhood bestie is back and she’s even thinking that maybe they can finally hook up because she used to have a big ol’ crush on Sung Joon back in the day. But the Sung Joon that shows up to meet her, is not the Sung Joon she’s expecting. He’s way more good looking than she was prepared for and so she runs away. Not only does she run away, but she makes her good looking girl best friend meet Sung Joon in her place and pretend to be her and that starts off a whole bunch of drama because when Hye Jin starts her new job, who else but Sung Joon shows up as her new boss?

Park Seo Jun and Hwang Jung Eum have great chemistry together in this show. I read on Tumblr and on TikTok that they play siblings in another show and then filmed this show afterward and they’re a couple. Talk about a range of acting skills, haha. From some accounts, it seemed to bother them but not me. I loved these two as a couple. I enjoyed seeing Sung Joon and Hye Jin grow closer. I was disappointed that Hye Jin and her girl best friend kept their lie running for so long, stringing Sung Joon along the way that they did but seeing him put the pieces together for himself and figure out the truth was satisfying when they finally did get together.

The second lead is Kim Shin Hyuk and he becomes work besties with Hye Jin at her new job. They both work for Sung Joon and he was such a character. I freaking adored the hell out of him. I was never rooting for him and Hye Jin together even though he was rooting for himself but I did really, really love him…for someone else. Sorry dude, but I will never root against Park Seo Jun. 😉 I really liked the friendship between him and Hye Jin and even came to love the bromance he forced on Sung Joon. He was so full of himself and so cocky, but in a good way, that I laughed every time he came on the screen. Every time he called Hye Jin, Jackson, I would crack up.

Overall, this show as a good one. It’s filled with humor, with charm and a cast of characters that will warm you right up. Every single character added a warmth to this overall viewing experience and I loved it. I definitely recommend.

Eye Candy Friday: Ko Dong Man

Posted August 28, 2020 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

Eye Candy Friday is something that I’ve been doing since I first started my personal blog way back in 2003. That first personal blog is long gone but I’ve never really grown out of the eye candy phase. I’m always up for some eye candy. Whether it’s a character from a book (male or female, I don’t discriminate), a character from a movie or TV Show, if I loved them and want to gush about how much I loved them, you’ll find them here. Thanks for coming along for the ride.

This week, I’m featuring Park Seo Jun as Ko Dong Man from Fight for My Way. Itaewon Class is my top Korean show but Ko Dong Man is probably my favorite character that Park Seo Jun has played so far. He plays the charming, lovable airhead role so well and Dong Man was my absolute favorite part of this show. His character would have charmed me right out of my pants. The way that he cared and supported Ae Ra through every little part of her life and just wanted her to love and support him back was just too precious for words. That’s a huge part of why he’s this week’s Eye Candy Friday. The other part of the reason is that he’s just so stinkin’ good looking.

Here are some pictures from my favorite Dong Man scenes from Fight for My Way, for you to enjoy. Check it out.

In this scene, he’s giving his best friend, Ae Ra, privacy to cry because she just received some bad news and he knows she hates crying in front of people. *swoon*

In this scene, he just lost his temper and beat the crap out of some guys because they were messing with Ae Ra and were trying to rough her up because she lost her temper on them. He went to jail and she defended him so fiercely in there that she made him cry and he’s hugging her to show his thanks and to cry without her seeing.

Dong Man used to be a mixed martial arts guy but gave it up after some family drama. After he stopped fighting, he worked stupid job after stupid job and just wasn’t satisfied with anything until he finally wises up and decides to live the rest of his twenties for passion. So he starts fighting again and this scene is directly after his first fight back. His ex-girlfriend all of a sudden wants to be with him again and you didn’t know which way he would turn until this scene. The first person that he wants to see after his very first fight is his best friend, Ae Ra…who is crying because she hates seeing him get hurt and so she went to support him at his first fight but couldn’t bear to watch it so she prayed with her eyes tightly shut for him not to get hurt and this is him going to her afterward to reassure her that he’s okay. And that he won.

And this scene had me cracking up. Dong Man and Ae Ra are out eating dinner and Ae Ra starts whining in her little baby voice that is supposed to be cute and get Dong Man to do whatever she wants but instead he answers her in the exact same whiny voice and pisses her off instead. LOL.

This scene is my favorite confession scene. He wasn’t messing around anymore and he was faithful to Ae Ra, even before they were actually dating. If you’re in the mood for a fun and charming best friends to more drama, you should check this one out.

You’re welcome. Until next week…enjoy!

Review: The Beauty Inside

The Beauty Inside

Male Lead: Park Seo Jun
Female Lead: Han Hyo Joo
Also Starring: Do Ji Han, Kim Dae Myung, Bae Sung Woo, Chun Young Woon, Park Shin Hye
Year Released: 2015
Genre: Contemporary, Fantasy
Country: Korea
Where I Watched It: Viki
Who I Watched It For: Park Seo Jun

This is a different kind of identity crisis.

Woo Jin is a young man who works as a furniture designer. He has a great life with the woman he loves, Yi Soo (Han Hyo Joo), if it weren’t for one little problem.

Every morning, Woo Jin wakes up to discover that he is inhabiting a different body. It could be the body of a young, good-looking man (Do Ji Han), a portly everyman (Kim Dae Myung), a middle-aged man (Bae Sung Woo), an old man (Chun Young Woon) or even a beautiful young woman (Park Shin Hye)!

Every time Woo Jin wakes up in a new body, he has to figure out where he is and how he can find his way back to Yi Soo, who is always waiting for him. Will there be a day that Woo Jin can’t find his way back?

“The Beauty Inside” is a 2015 South Korean film directed by Baik. It is based on the 2012 American social film by the same title directed by Drake Doremus.

In making my way through Park Seo Jun’s work, I came across this movie. It’s an interesting premise for a story and Park Seo Jun is in it for more than five minutes so that was already a win for me. Ha!

So this movie is about a man named Woo Jin who wakes up every morning in a different body. His emotions and everything inside of him is still Woo Jin but his outside changes every time he wakes up in the morning. Sometimes he’s a handsome young man but sometimes he wakes up as a portly old man or a grandmotherly type old woman. In the beginning, you can tell that he is struggling with waking up as a not so gorgeous person. He’s kind of vain and the disappointment he has every morning when he wakes up in an ugly person’s body had me side eying him. He enjoys the days that he wakes up in a beautiful body and even capitalizes on it by hooking up with girls he meets at the club or the bar. He leads completely different lives every single day with the new faces and bodies but the one thing that stays the same is his crush on the saleswoman at the furniture store that he goes to.

Woo Jin makes furniture for a living and he spends time in a furniture store, in all of the different faces and bodies that he wakes up with. He lives a very complicated life, a life that keeps him away from people and because of that, he’s very lonely. The only people that know about his condition are his best friend and his mother. His best friend comes off as bubbly and low key pervy but as the movie progresses, you see that he’s still all of those things but he does care and support Woo Jin.

The theme of the movie centers around the beauty inside of a person. No matter what body and face Woo Jin woke up with, on the inside, where it counts, he was still just Woo Jin. When we first meet him, he’s struggling because a part of him is vain and pissed off that he’s not normal and that causes him to do something pretty extreme. When he wakes up in Park Seo Jun’s body, he thinks that this is his shot. He’s going to approach the furniture store girl and he’s never going to sleep again…and it works, he pursues the furniture store girl and hooks her with his good looks then wins her over with his personality and all of that goes up in flames when he falls asleep because the minute he wakes up, he’s in a different body and Park Seo Jun is gone so he does what we all expected him to do. He runs.

Han Hyo Joo did a great job in portraying the character Yi Soo in this movie. I was really invested in her journey. From her first meeting Woo Jin with Park Seo Jun’s face and body, to her falling in love with him in a matter of days and then going through being abandoned by him, learning the truth about him and then accepting him and trying to figure out how to be with him. It wasn’t an easy journey but seeing both of them struggle with their different issues was interesting and I really connected with both of their characters, with the whole movie in general. The pacing in the beginning of the movie was a little slow but once things picked up, they really picked up and I ended up really enjoying the movie and the message. I cried a lot but my heart grew and grew with every minute that I watched this so I would definitely recommend this one. It’s good.

Review: What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim

Posted July 30, 2020 by Rowena in Reviews | 2 Comments

What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim

Male Lead: Park Seo Jun
Female Lead: Park Min Young
Secondary Lead: Lee Tae Hwan
Also Starring: Hwang Chan Sung, Jun So Min, Hwang Bo Ra, Pyo Ye Jin, Kang Ki Young, Lee Min Ki, Kim Byeong Ki, Jung Yu Mi, Kang Hong Suk
Year Released: 2018
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Country: Korea
Where I Watched It: Viki
Watched It For: Park Seo Jun

Can you be so self-absorbed that you have no idea what’s truly going on around you? Lee Yeong Joon (Park Seo Joon) is vice president of his family-owned company, Yoomyung Group. He is so narcissistic that he doesn’t pay attention to what his trusty secretary, Kim Mi So (Park Min Young), is trying to tell him most of the time.

After nine years of making Yeong Joon look good and stroking his very large ego, Min So decides to quit her job. Yeong Joon’s older brother, Lee Sung Yeon (Lee Tae Hwan), is a famous author who is in love with Mi So.

Can Yeong Joon accept the fact that Mi So no longer wants to work for him or will he get the wrong idea?

“What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim” is a 2018 South Korean drama series directed by Park Joon Hwa. It is based on a novel by Jung Kyung Yoon. A 2016 webcomic by Kim Young Mi also was based on the same novel.

Going into this show, I was expecting something light and fluffy and while a lot of this show was that, it was also a little dark at times. This show centers around Lee Yeong Joon and his secretary Kim Mi So. Kim Mi So has worked for Lee Yeong Joon for nine years, she’s supported her different family members through school and job losses but there’s no need for any of that anymore since her sisters are grown and working and supporting themselves. Kim Mi So can finally breathe a sigh of relief as all the debt she’s been paying is done and she is finally going to start living her life for herself. First thing on her to-do list? Quit her job.

Lee Yeong Joon has become used to having Kim Mi So by his side. She’s been his right hand woman for the last nine years so he’s fond of her. He’s also completely spoiled by her so when she tells him that she is quitting her job as his secretary, he’s thrown for a loop. As the story progresses, we see that Kim Mi So is much more than Yeong Joon’s secretary. It takes a while for that story to come out and a lot of the hype that I felt for this show was due to the fact that their real story slowly unfolds with each passing episode.

Yeong Joon is not a normal person. He’s got issues from a traumatic past that we don’t really know everything about and he doesn’t even remember most of it himself. The one person who has stuck by him and helped him through different episodes that he’s had is Mi So. Now that he feels like he’s losing her, Yeong Joon decides that he’s going to try to keep her. He’s going to woo her back to his side. The lengths that he went to try to win her over made me laugh and the arrogance that he has at every turn had me laughing even more. There were just so many sweet scenes, followed by some super swoony scenes and a whole lot of funny ones thrown in for good measure. The romance between Lee Yeong Joon and Kim Mi So was sweet and just all around cute. I really liked it.

There’s a strong cast of characters in this show. I liked everyone at the company that both Lee Yeong Joon and Kim Mi So work at. I thought the secondary romance between Kim Mi So’s coworkers was fun too. Both of the secondary romances were cute and even the romance between Yeong Joon’s friend and his wife was adorable. There are a lot of ups and a lot of downs in this show, lots of times when I thought I had something figured out and was wrong but this show was a lot of fun to figure out. Seeing everything come together was a good time and though this isn’t my favorite Park Seo Jun show, it’s a solid show with a solid cast and a super swoony romance that I was here for.

If you’re looking for a good time, this is the show for you. 🙂
