The Weekly Recap (195)

Posted March 13, 2023 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

Happy Birthday, Meghan!

Happy Birthday to my ARMY bestie in California, haha. It’s so funny because Meghan is so fiercely independent and can’t be forced to do anything. She’s always been like that ever since she was a kid so it makes me so happy that when I forced her to watch BTS videos with me when she was staying at my house, she became curious about them and went home and fell in love with them on her own. She is my K-Pop buddy because we are both in the middle of falling in love with Seventeen and I love having someone that I can share everything under the sun about Seventeen AND BTS with.

It’s been an eventful week for me because your girl is employed again and I start next week Monday so I’m pretty excited and stoked to finally get caught up on my bills again. I blew through my savings trying to survive the last few months while I searched for a job and the Unemployment office for California can suck a fat one. I’m STILL going back and forth with them about my damn claim and seriously, whoever tried to open a claim using my social can suck an even bigger one and I hope that they never see the cool side of a pillow ever again. Warm and hot pillows forever!

Brenna, Lasi, and Baby Lata’ema

Also, I forgot to tell you guys last week but dude, I have another baby to spoil! My niece Chach and her husband Isaiah had their baby girl last week and her name is Lata’ema! She’s a big girl, way bigger than her Mom was when she was born but outside of that, she is the exact replica of her mother. Such a cutie patootie baby and I cannot wait to meet her. Fingers crossed that I’ll get to meet her next week. Wish me luck!

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

Traveler, Season 1 | 4 out of 5
The Glory, Season 2 | 4.5 out of 5

I binged both of these shows this week and they were both great. I enjoyed The Glory, Pt. 2 more because holy shit that show ended the way that I wand it to end and I’m hella wondering if we’re going to get another season…and even though I’m not normally a fan of extending a show longer than the 16 episodes, I’m low key hoping for another season of this show so that we can get some revenge for my guy Yeo Jung. Fingers crossed.

Our Blooming Youth: There’s a lot going on and it’s a little hard to follow everything but I will say that despite that, I’m still enjoying it. My favorite thing about the show right now is seeing our main leads become closer and closer with each other. He’s so smitten but still very aware of her feelings for her ex-fiance but she is super soft for him too and I’m enjoying seeing their slow burn romance come together. I am also curious about where all of the mystery and drama goes and man, once the second lead finds out the truth about the female lead, it’s gonna be crazy and I know that my heart is going to hurt for him because boy, your best friend stole your girl.

Jinny’s Kitchen: I’m not sure that I could explain why I’m enjoying this show so much because it’s more than just seeing V and Park Seo Joon every week, cause really all they’re doing is making ramen, corn dogs, and sauces followed by V and Wooshik washing all the dishes. I don’t know what crack is in this show but I’m enjoying it. I like the break it gives me from all of the heavier dramas that I’m watching. The ARMY that left Taehyung a note in this week’s episode was too cute. She’s a real ARMY too because we didn’t hear one thing about his trip to Mexico and she didn’t bother him while he was working, her entire interaction with him was hers and her alone. Cute! Jinny’s Kitchen Wooshik is giving me major In the Soop Seokjin vibes. The way the both of them wake up cracks me up.

Taxi Driver 2: This week’s episodes (even though they were split up) were much more interesting to me than the last country bumpkins episodes were. Man, my heart hurt for the kids and seeing how determined Kim Do Ki was to find them and protect them from that punk bastard Mr. Kang put my heart back together again. I’m glad that we got the original writer back because the episodes are much more interesting again and I’m glad. I see that Metal Balls is going to piss me off in this show too. Grrr. I’m mighty curious about who the hell he is though.

The Heavenly Idol: How much longer is Yeon Woo going to act like an idiot? I think this show is too silly for me. I’m interested one episode and then the next, I want to spank Yeon Woo (or I guess it’s Rembrary) and call it quits. But even with all of my gripes, I can’t stop watching it. I am getting soft for all of the members of Wild Animal so I’ll stick it out for them and to see Rembrary get his shit together.

Delivery Man: The first two episodes of this drama set up the tone for the rest of the show and I’m curious enough to keep going. I really liked the first two episodes even though the female lead was annoying as shit in the first one. I’m curious what other cases we’ll be working on during the course this show and how many different ghosts we’re going to meet. This show reminds me of May I Help You with its own unique spin so I’m curious about how the mystery behind his Mom’s accident will unfold.

The TBW Pile: March 2023

Posted March 9, 2023 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

With so many k-dramas to look forward to (and even some older releases that I’m itching to watch), I’m organizing my k-drama watching and keeping track of it all here on the blog. Each month, I’ll put a list together of the shows that I’m planning on watching and then track my progress through these monthly posts. Let’s see what this month’s plan looks like, shall we?

Here’s a breakdown of what my drama watching plan was for last month.

Previous Month Stats

Drama’s to Watch: 9 | Drama’s Watched: 8 | Drama’s Unwatched: 1
Drama’s Started: 11 | Dramas Completed: 7 | Drama’s Dropped: 3
Favorite Watch: Seventeen in the Soop | Least Favorite Watch: Strangers Again

March’s TBW PILE

Buddy Watch

Taxi Driver 2

Therese and I never got around to watching the drama we planned on watching last month, which was When My Love Blooms. Instead, we watched the first season of Taxi Driver so this month, we’re going to watch the second season. That’s the plan, anyway. Therese, let’s get on it!

March Releases

Delivery Man
Divorce Attorney Shin
Oasis
The Glory, Pt. 2
The Secret Romantic Guesthouse
Joseon Lawyer

I’m not sure that I’ll watch every single one of these dramas but these are the new releases that I’m interested in. We’ll see what I end up watching next month but for now, the plan is all of these.

Shows That Are Finishing in March

The Heavenly Idol

Of the dramas that I’m watching right now, this is the only drama that ends in March. The rest end in April. This is just an okay drama. I’m much more interested in what’s going on then I was when I first started it but it’s not going on any favorites lists. I much prefer Kim Min Gue’s character in A Business Proposal.

What dramas are on your TBW pile for March? Anything good that I should keep my eye out for? Please share the dramas you have on deck to read next month.

The Wednesday Five: Dramas I’m Looking Forward to in March 2023

Posted March 1, 2023 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

I’m a list person. I have a list for every single thing in my life from a to-do list, a list of books that I want to read, a running shopping list, and in the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing different k-entertainment lists that I’ve been keeping track of. You’ll be seeing my top 5 lists of stuff like my current celebrity crushes, my favorite k-drama female protagonists, my favorite k-drama male protagonists, my to-be-watched k-dramas, and you know, stuff like that.

This week’s Wednesday Five will feature the dramas I’m excited for that are releasing in March. You guys know the drill, check it out.

1. Delivery Man

Where to Watch: Viki
Starring: Yoon Chan Young, Bang Min Ah, Kim Min Suk

I enjoyed Chan Young in All of Us Are Dead so I’m looking forward to seeing him with ghosts instead of zombies. I’ve never seen Bang Min Ah in anything so I’m looking forward to seeing what she’s got.

2. Divorce Attorney Shin

Where to Watch: Netflix
Starring: Cho Seung Woo, Han Hye Jin, Kim Sung Kyun

I hope this show is a lot better than the last show I watched featuring divorce attorneys. Fingers crossed.

3. Oasis

Where to Watch: Wavve
Starring: Jang Dong Yoon, Seol In Ah, Choo Young Woo

I love me some Seol In Ah and Choo Young Woo so I’m all excited for this one. I’m a little bummed that Choo Young Woo still seems to be in his second lead era but that’s okay. I’m still going to check this one out since it looks like a good one. Fingers crossed that I enjoy this one a lot more than I enjoyed Young Woo’s last drama that I watched.

4. The Glory, Pt. 2

Where to Watch: Netflix
Starring: Song Hye Kyo, Lee Do Hyun, Im Ji Yeon

I need to know how this one all comes together and I may sound like a broken record but I also need Ha Do Young to not be a bad guy. He is just…too damn fine to be bad. I also need our main lead to get her revenge. All of it. All of them bitches that tortured her and then went about their lives without an ounce of remorse need to come and get this punishment. I’m so ready for this one to come back. 9 more days.

5. Joseon Lawyer

Where to Watch: TBD
Starring: Woo Do Hwan, Bona, Cha Hak Yeon

WOO DO HWAN IS BACK!!!! He’s out of the military and we’re getting his first project since being released from the military. I can’t freaking wait.

What are some dramas you’re looking forward to in March 2023?

Eye Candy Friday: Ha Do Young from The Glory

Posted February 24, 2023 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

Eye Candy Friday is something that I’ve been doing since I first started my personal blog way back in 2003. That first personal blog is long gone but I’ve never really grown out of the eye candy phase. I’m always up for some eye candy. Whether it’s a character from a book (male or female, I don’t discriminate), a character from a movie or TV Show, if I loved them and want to gush about how much I loved them, you’ll find them here. Thanks for coming along for the ride.

This week, I’m featuring Ha Do Young from The Glory. As much as I liked Song Hye Kyo and Lee Do Hyun in this drama, it was Ha Do Young that stole the show for me. I am gonna need his character to not be a bad one cause I don’t want my girl to kill him as part of her revenge. Please, please, please don’t get killed! He’s fine too!

Until next week…enjoy!

Watch The Glory

The Glory

The Monthly Recap: January 2023

Posted February 7, 2023 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

The Monthly Recap posts are a way for me to take a look back and reflect on my previous month in Korean dramas. I always lose track of what I want to watch and I need these posts to keep me honest with my damn self because I be forgetting shit. So let’s start this recap, shall we?

I wasn’t expecting to be as busy as I was in the month of January. I was in Utah and then flew into L.A. for some family stuff and by the time that I got home, I was too exhausted mentally to focus on any drama watching so February started off really slow…but even with how busy I was in January, I watched hella dramas.

Here’s a rundown of what my month looked like. Check it out…

Actors that Stood Out

Jung Sung Il from The Glory: This guy was a pretty big highlight for me while watching The Glory. I watched the show for Lee Do Hyun and was pleasantly surprised at the introduction of Ha Do Young. He was fine as hell and I’m going to need him to not be a bad guy. Please, please, please don’t be a bad guy.

Cha Eun Woo from Island: Cha Eun Woo as Priest Yohan was such a vibe. He was such a delightful part of the first season. The show, for the most part was on the dark side and Yohan provided a little sunlight that went a long way and I just really liked his character.

Park Jin Young from He is Psychometric: I watched this show randomly with Therese and we were both so smitten with Park Jin Young in it. He was so handsome and just kept getting more handsome and more handsome with each passing episode. Even after the show ended we were still smitten with him. He fine as hell.

How was your month, in all the things? Did you read or watch anything good (or bad)? Share in the comments, I’d love to catch up!
