The Monthly Recap: June & July 2020

Posted August 19, 2020 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

The Monthly Recap posts are a way for me to take a look back and reflect on my previous month in books, movies, and Korean dramas. From what I read, what I watched, what I got, and the books, shows and movies that I need to get to. I always lose track of what I have, what I need to read, what I want to watch and I need these posts to keep me honest with my damn self because I be forgetting shit. So here’s what my June and July 2020 month in books, movies, and shows looked like.

What I Read

Blind Date with a Book Boyfriend by Lucy Eden | 4.25 out of 5

Yeah, you’re seeing that correctly. I’ve only read one book in two months. What’s sad about this is that the book that I read was a novella with only 91 pages. I blame k dramas. All I wanna watch, all I wanna do is watch more k dramas. I will say that I enjoyed this short and super sweet romance by Lucy Eden. She’s definitely on my wishlist, I want to read more of her stuff after reading and enjoying Mike and Jordyn.

What Shows I Watched

Fight My Way | 4.5 out of 5
Kill Me, Heal Me | DNF
Playful Kiss | DNF
The King: Eternal Monarch | 4 out of 5
Stranger | 3.5 out of 5
Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth | DNF
Where the Camellia Blooms | 3.25 out of 5
Big | DNF
Revolutionary Love | 4 out of 5
Strong Woman, Do Bong Soon | 4.5 out of 5
Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo | 4.5 out of 5
The K-2 | 3.5 out of 5
Cheese in the Trap | 2.5 out of 5
My First First Love | 4.25 out of 5
My First First Love 2 | 4.5 out of 5
Suits | 4.5 out of 5
W | 3.5 out of 5
Abyss | 3.75 out of 5
Life | 3.75 out of 5

I went to town on some k dramas in the last couple of months. Of the 19 shows that I watched, my favorites of the bunch are Fight for My Way, Strong Woman, Do Bong Soon, Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo, and Suits. I enjoyed all four of those shows equally and I can’t choose a favorite between them. They were all SO good. Loved them all.

My least favorite shows are all of the ones that I DNF’d. Some I wasn’t in the mood for, but others just drove me crazy and didn’t work for me so I quit them. That list is Playful Kiss (ugh, the hero was a dick, the heroine was a ditz and I couldn’t do it), Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (wasn’t in the mood for this one), Big (not a big fan of the teacher/student relationship),

What Movies I Watched

The Suspect | 4.5 out of 5
Midnight Runners (2017) | 5 out of 5
The Man from Nowhere (2010) | 4.25 out of 5
Juror 8 (2019) | 4.25 out of 5
Be with You (2018) | 4 out of 5

My favorite of movie of the last two months (hell, of the year) is hands down, Midnight Runner, with my boys Park Seo Jun and Kang Ha Neul. They were everything in this movie and I loved every single second. Holy cow, this movie was the bomb.

If I had to choose a least favorite, it would probably be Be with You even though I really liked it. I just liked it the least of the movies that I watched in June and July. Still, super good.

Eye Candy Friday

Park Saeroyi from Itaewon Class
Kim Shin from Goblin

The Monthly Recap: October 2019

Posted November 14, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

I’m not sure what my problem is. This entire year has been a year of I thought I’d read more books this month and yet, it still hasn’t happened. We’re well into the beginning of November and I’m STILL not reading anything. Ugh, maybe next year I need to lower my reading goals and just get back to reading whatever I want, whenever I want.

13. A Madness of Sunshine by Nalini Singh (eARC) | 3.75 out of 5

My favorite reads of the month were actually my Julie Garwood re-reads. I absolutely adored reading The Wedding and Saving Grace again. It’s always a good time when I’m reading older Julie Garwood releases. I adored Saving Grace so much that I read it twice last month. I read it before Casee picked it for our blog team read and then I read again once she decided we should read that one again. I loved both reads and decided that I needed to re-read more of my favorite older reads. Of the newer books that I read, my favorites were Moonlighter by Sarina Bowen and Getting Played by Emma Chase.

My least favorite read of the month goes to Blitzed by Alexa Martin. I was bummed that I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I thought I would. The romance was slow and not the good kind of slow. it was low key boring and I wasn’t as invested in Brynne and Maxwell as much as I hoped I would be. Oh well, I’m still invested in more books from this series though. I’m crossing my fingers for Eloise’s book.

The Monthly Recap: July 2019

Posted August 8, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 8 Comments

Another month down and another shitty reading month in the books. Sigh. I really thought that things had kicked off for me on the reading front last month but meh, I found every other thing to do in the middle days of July that wasn’t reading and I did that instead. I did get to meet up with some book friends, I celebrated Holly’s birthday with her and I went to another Dodgers game and saw the firework show with them as well, haha. July was a good month, even if it wasn’t a good reading month.

Here’s what my month in books looked like…

The Monthly Recap: June 2019

Posted July 2, 2019 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

This month was the month that I think kickstarted my actual reading. I haven’t really been happy with the amount of books that I’ve been reading each month so far but the end of June, my reading amped up and I’m hoping against all hope that it continues into this month and all of the other months left in 2019. Here’s what my reading looked like in June.

Monthly Book Stats

Books Read: 10 | Books DNF’d: 2
Books Purchased: 10 | Books Received for Review: 5 | Reviews Posted: 8
Highest Grade: Superfan by Sarina Bowen | Lowest Grade: The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez

What I Read

1. If It Makes You Happy by Claire Kann (eARC) | DNF, 2 out of 5 of what I did read
2. The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen (eARC) | 4 out of 5
3. Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim (eARC) | 3 out of 5
4. The Perfect Date by Evelyn Lozada (eARC) | DNF, 2 out of 5 of what I did read
5. Superfan (Brooklyn Bruisers #6) by Sarina Bowen (eARC) | 4.25 out of 5
5. Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfree (eARC) | 2 out of 5
7. Highland Deception by Meggan Connors (Kindle Unlimited) | 3 out of 5
8. The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez (eBook) | 1 out of 5
9. Call it What You Want by Brigid Kemmerer (eARC) | 3.75 out of 5
10. Night Broken (Mercy Thompson #8) by Patricia Briggs (eBook) | 3.75 out of 5
11. Fire Touched (Mercy Thompson #9) by Patricia Briggs (eBook) | 4 out of 5
12. Silence Fallen (Mercy Thompson #10) by Patricia Briggs (eBook) | 4 out of 5

I DNF’d two books this month and I almost DNF’d two others. The other two books I almost DNF’d were books that I couldn’t DNF. I had to finish them and by the end, I wanted something very strong to drink because ugh, I didn’t like either of those books. You can take a guess at what those books were. Needless to say, those two are my least favorite books of the month.

My favorite read of the month goes to Superfan by Sarina Bowen. I enjoyed that one and was super glad to jump back into the Mercy Thompson world so that was another bright reading spot to an otherwise forgettable month of books.
