The Monthly Recap: September 2018

Posted October 16, 2018 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

September came and went a lot faster than I was anticipating. Lots of stuff happened but the most important thing that happened was our celebrating baby Jax’s first birthday. Jax is my older brother’s first grandchild and he is the apple of his papa’s eye. My brother is such a great grandfather and Jax loves him so. Jax is such a little cutie and an adorably good little boy and our family adore him. His first birthday was a lot of fun. Brenna and Makenna’s pre-season for basketball has also started in September and they played in their first basketball tournament of the season, it was about an hour away and I didn’t make it out to the tournament but my brother Pete went and said that though the team isn’t as good as they were last year, Brenna and Makenna didn’t play nearly as well as they should have so it was hard to get a good feel on how they’ll do this year. I guess we’ll just wait and see. Dodgers are playing in the National League Championship Series and I’m rooting them on from wherever I am when the games start. At home or at work. My best friend had surgery to remove her thyroid and I was able to hang out with her and her Mom to make sure that all was well and to drive them around wherever they needed since Therese was in a lot of pain and her Mom was scared to drive around town. I was happy to be there for them both because Therese’s Mom is one of my favorite people in the world. September was a good month for me personally but it was also good for me in books. Let’s move on to the books…

Never Love a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy #3) by Maya Banks (Audiobook) | 4.75 out of 5 19. Kissing Madeleine (Dearest #3) by Lex Martin (Audiobook) | 4 out of 5
My favorite read of the month goes to Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs but also Seduction of a Highland Lass by Maya Banks. Both books were so good. I cried buckets when listening to Seduction of a Highland Lass. I couldn’t get over how freaking good it was. Alaric and Keeley’s story hit me hard in every feel in my body. With Dead Heat, it was so good to be in Charles and Anna’s world again. I freaking love them both and I loved seeing them work together to figure out who was trying to harm their own. So, so freaking good. I have two least favorite reads of the month as well. Those books are Hot Dad by Whitley Cox and Say You’ll Stay by Corinne Michaels. Both books pissed me off so I was glad to be done with them once I finished them.

The Monthly Recap: August 2018

Posted September 4, 2018 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

What I Did
August was for hanging out with my best friend Theresa and exercising and we went to our very first City of Los Angeles event and had a blast doing what we do best…eat. We went to the Los Angeles Taco Festival near Downtown L.A. and even though I only ate one taco, it was a damn good taco and I’ve been craving more of it ever since. Now if only we can find where that taco place is. Ha. I also joined a new online book club that I’m enjoying the heck out of so big ups to Nick and Renee for brainstorming that to life. 🙂

I read 23 books in the entire month of July. That includes audiobooks, re-reads and books that I’ve been meaning to read but never got around to. I think this is the most that I’ve read in a month EVER and man, that makes me happy. I’m shooting for more of the same in September so wish me luck! 🙂 My most anticipated book was a book that doesn’t come out until November but I got it for review now and couldn’t stop myself from reading immediately and that was Diamond Fire by Ilona Andrews. It was a fabulous read and introduction into Catalina as a narrator and I cannot wait for more from her. My favorite book of the month probably goes to Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren, The Governess Game by Tessa Dare, and When a Duke Loves a Woman by Lorraine Heath. All books were review books and I loved them all. My least favorite book of the month is the book that I DNF’d. Mr. Grumpy Fake Boyfriend by Jackie Lau. I didn’t connect with anything or anyone so I let it go. It wasn’t for me.

What I Watched on TV
Sharp Objects is a show that I wanted to watch as soon as I found out that Chris Messina was in it. Too bad the show was too weird for me to get past the third episode so I quit it. I’m still watching Suits and surprised at how much I’m enjoying it. I’m even loving the new additions to the show. Good stuff. I’m also watching Take Two and enjoying that still even though it’s pretty cheesy. I really like Rachel Bilson so I’m mainly watching it for her.

The Monthly Recap: July 2018

Posted August 7, 2018 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

What I Did
Family pictures: My month started off with family pictures on the beach in Redondo Beach. I thought it was going to take much longer than it actually took. There are 9 of us and we all have hella kids between us but we were done within 3 hours. We almost made it through the entire shoot without any issues but then little Caleb fell into the ocean with his cast so between his family pictures and the rest of our big family pictures that we took a couple of hours later, his shorts are 8 shades darker but he’s still a cutie patootie. The picture above is one with just my siblings and my Pops. We’re missing my sister Ingrid but everyone else is there and I really like this one. Here’s a picture from me and Brenna’s shots. It’s my favorite. I love the background with the Palos Verdes cliffs, it’s a gorgeous shot. David’s Funeral: My month ended with a funeral for one of my good friends David. He suffered from depression and struggled with it for a while. I’m going to miss him but am glad that he’s finally at peace. It was really good to see everyone that came out to pay their respects. Lots and lots of our friends from Church came out, which was nice because everyone is so spread out. We have people in Utah, Arizona, all parts of California but everyone came home to say their final goodbyes to David and that made me happy for him.

These are the three most listened to songs for me in the month of July. I have so much love for all of these songs.
What I Watched on TV
I enjoyed each of the shows I watched, even in some parts, 13 Reasons Why Season 2. There was a lot going on and while I was still frustrated with how shitty those kids were, in the end, I’m glad that I watched it. Suits and Take Two are both great shows that I’m really liking and Kims Convenience cracks me up. Goodness I love Asian comedy shows and movies.
