The Weekly Recap (179)

Posted October 10, 2022 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

This last week has been one of the most relaxing and fun weeks that I’ve had in a while. Things at work aren’t completely crazy and finding a balance between my work and my personal life has been going really well for me and a huge part of that was having my best friend Theresa in town. It’s been like having a super long sleepover that I never wanted to end. I’m sad that Therese went home yesterday but I hope that she had a peaceful time here and that she was able to reset herself so that she can get back on track at home. Let’s just forget about Saturday night, kay Tita? LOL.

On a personal note, we got some sad news from one of our other besties so we did a lot of thinking about our loved ones this week and vowed to be there for them in any way that we can. Losing loved ones really sucks. I’m traveling to Utah this week for a funeral, a gender reveal, and a going away dinner for my nephew that just got married. He’s leaving for Army bootcamp and will be gone for six months.

While I’m in Utah, we’ll be having our family book club meeting for October and I’m really curious to see what the girls thought of The Secret by Julie Garwood. This particular book club includes all of the women in our family. All of my sisters, one of my sisters-in-laws, and all of our daughters. Each month, a different person chooses the book, leads the discussion, prepares a game, and provides a prize. We’re two months into book club and it’s been such a good time. I’m falling in love with reading again and since we’re going from oldest to youngest, us Moms have been choosing old favorites to share with our daughters. I’m having a blast and I’m looking forward to the next meeting.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

Little Women: This show was my shit. Every week, I was so invested in what was going on. Sure, there were episodes where I wanted to strangle a different character but holy shit, I really enjoyed this one. I am pretty content with the ending but wouldn’t be mad if we got another season of these characters. My favorite of the bunch of Kim Go Eun’s character and also Wi Ha Joon’s character though I really liked the second sister and her boo thang too. I’ll be reviewing this one soon so I’ll go into my thoughts more there.

The Law Cafe: This show started off really strong for me. I was really enjoying watching everything come together but I struggled to get through the last four episodes. I’ll continue on but hopefully things will pick back up again. I’m struggling with both main leads and how messy things are. Just, meh.

Young Actor’s Retreat: I’m still loving this show. These guys are funny as shit. I didn’t know that I would love Hwang In Yeop more than I already did. He’s such a fun person and this week’s episode had me in fits, giggling all over the place. I’m ready for the next episode.

Blind: I finally started this show and though I’ve only watched two episodes, I’m hooked. The premise is interesting and I’m ready to catch up with the rest of the episodes that have dropped so far. I need know where this is all going.

Love in Contract: I finally started this show as well and so far, so good. I’m curious. I’m intrigued, and I really like looking at Go Kyung Pyo so I’ll be tuning in every week for sure. Haha.

Gaus Electronics: I watched the first episode of this over the weekend and almost quit it. I hate the workplace bullying that went down in that episode but I’m going to continue because I do really like Kwak Dong Yeon’s character and I’m going to give the show more support to see if it gets better.

The Cursed: Therese and I watched five episodes of this show before we called it quits. It’s slow going, I’m frustrated with damn near every person, thing, and just every damn thing that I don’t want to continue. It’s confusing, there isn’t anything pulling me to keep going so we tried but meh, this one got dropped like a hot potato.

The Weekly Recap (178)

Posted October 3, 2022 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

Man, it’s been a cool minute since I’ve done one of these posts but I figured it was time for a comeback. I know that before these posts were centered around my reading schedule but these days, they’ll be centered around my k-drama watching. I’ve been reading more and more but not as much as I’m watching k-dramas so I’ll take this feature wherever I’m spending most of my time these days.

This past week was pretty quiet and it’s been that way since I came back from Hawaii. Yeah, I went to Hawaii and I had an absolute blast with my family. I went for my nephew’s wedding and stayed for a week doing all of the things with my sisters. We went ziplining, ate garlic shrimp at the Kahuku food truck spot, hiked to Waimea Falls and then swam, we enjoyed a day at PCC (Polynesian Culture Center) and went on lots of scenic drives that took my breath away. I spent the week with my shorty best friend, Caiden, and enjoyed my time with my family. There were ups and there were downs but it was such a memorable trip that I wouldn’t have traded it for anything in the world.

My best friend is spending the week with me in Vegas and I am loving that she’s here. We’re going to do all of the things and mostly stay home too, haha.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

If You Wish Upon Me: This drama wrapped this week and while I wasn’t completely satisfied with the ending, I still rather enjoyed the drama as a whole so I’m glad that I watched this one. I’ll be reviewing this one eventually so be on the lookout for that. 🙂

Once Upon a Smalltown: This is the other drama that wrapped up this week and boy am I glad that it did. I went into this drama wanting to support the male main lead because I liked him in School 2021 but honestly, this show was boring and I never really connected with anyone in the smalltown nor was I invested in the main romance. The female lead didn’t do a thing for me and her acting was off for most of the show so I just never warmed up to her. I was glad to say bye to this one.

Little Women: Kim Go Eun and the crew on this show are really knocking it out of the park with this one. I am so invested in everything that is happening right now. All storylines, every character, and even though I be wanting to strangle the youngest sister, I adore her too. Man but this show is a good one. I am hella loving Choi Do Il, too. With his ol’ fine ass…

The Law Cafe: I started this show last week and binge-watched all of the episodes that are out. My first impression is YESSSS, I’m digging every single thing about this show. From the characters to the cases that the law cafe takes on, and the romance between the two main leads, it’s all really good so far and I’m looking forward to seeing where the show takes us.

Young Actor’s Retreat: I don’t watch very many variety type shows (only Run BTS, come to think of it) but I’m really enjoying this one. I love seeing these actors interact with each other but mostly, I’m enjoying seeing how they are without a script to follow and seeing them just have being themselves. Seeing them being competitive and having fun with each other is entertaining as hell so I’m really enjoying this one.

What I Reviewed

What Made Me Laugh

Big Hit, Jin’s company, posted an update on the cases that they’re working on that are harmful, hurtful, spreading of mis and disinformation on all things Bangtan and even announced that they have identified someone that they have now turned over for prosecution. Army’s all over the world took to Twitter to celebrate seeing Big Hit protecting the boys from harm. Jin took to Weverse to ask us besties for the gossip. LOL, I freaking love him!

The Weekly Recap (177)

Posted January 17, 2022 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

Hey everyone!

The second of 2022 was pretty quiet on my end. I worked every day but even work was quiet. This is usually our slow quarter at work so I expected to be slow but I’m low-key bored, not that I’m going to complain because I know that this period isn’t going to last long. Before I know what’s what, the jobs will be pouring in and I’ll be in hell again so I’m going to enjoy this peace and quiet for however long it lasts.

This week was also the week that our water heater went out. We were without water for two whole days because not only did the water heater go down but we had some serious irrigation issues in our front yard and back yard that caused some slight flooding so we had to get all of that fixed. The water heater was replaced, so I was able to take an actual shower which made me happy. We’re in the process of getting the irrigation issues dealt with so that should be over soon and all will be well again. Fingers crossed.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did in the last two weeks since I missed last week’s post…

What I Read

Human Acts by Han Kang | 4 out of 5
Save Me by BTS, Lico | 4.5 out of 5
Bombshell (Hell’s Belles #1) by Sarah MacLean | 4 out of 5
Getting Played (Getting Some #1) by Emma Chase | 2.5 out of 5

My reading has definitely picked up this week but I don’t want to jinx it so I’m just going to be happy that I’m reading again and hope that it continues. I started the year with a buddy read and some book club reads. I’ve already started my fourth read of the year but it’s slow going because I started and almost finished an entire drama in two days. I don’t regret it though because the drama was good.

My favorite read of the week goes to the webtoon, Save Me. The story was fun and though the ending felt a bit rushed, I still rather enjoyed the story as a whole. It was fun to see Jin trying to save all of the boys, getting it wrong and then trying again. If, at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again. It was great. My least favorite read of the week goes to Getting Played (Getting Some #1) by Emma Chase. This is a re-read for me and I don’t remember the dialogue being so cheesy and the characters being so corny.

What I Watched

School 2021 | 3.5 out of 5
Encanto | 4.5 out of 5
Dear My Friends | 4 out of 5

I enjoyed School 2021 and was a little sad that it ended this week. I was really happy with the way that it all ended but was it my favorite k-drama ever? Nah. Still, it was good. Brenna has been telling me over and over how much she loved Encanto so I watched it for myself this week and am super glad that I did. I cried, I rejoiced, and I just loved it all. Great recommendation and if you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend that you change that.

I spent my long weekend watching Dear My Friends on Netflix. I wasn’t expecting this drama to be as emotionally charged as it was and I’m super glad that I gave it a go. I can see me and my bestie, Therese acting up like these old ladies and calling Brenna to come and save us from our shenanigans. I can’t wait, haha.

Our Beloved Summer

I’m sad that there are only four more episodes left of this drama. This wasn’t one of those action-packed, fast-paced dramas but I thought the pacing worked for the story being told here. I enjoyed the past and the present lives of Choi Wung and Kook Yeon Soo. Seeing these two finally come together in truth, instead of assumed truths, was so satisfying.

I really love me some Choi Wung and every single time that V’s voice comes on, singing Christmas Tree, my heart breaks and soars because I love hearing V sing.

Ghost Doctor

I started this drama last week because I like Kim Bum but after four episodes, I am still not locked in. I fell asleep in every single episode that I watched and I’m thinking that I’m going to drop this one, which bums me out because I thought that I would enjoy this one a lot more. But, it’s low-key boring to me.

I’m not sure if my boredom is due to the actual storyline or if it’s because I’m not in the mood for it right now but either way, I’m dropping it. I’m not sure if I’m dropping it for good, or if I’m dropping it for now. I guess we’ll find out.

Demon Slayer, Season 2

The highlights of my week continue to be watching Demon Slayer with Therese every Sunday and this week’s episode was too good.

Seeing Nezuko finally get the chance to feel everything that she’s been suppressing ever since she turned into a demon was more emotional than I was expecting. So far, this season is my favorite season and I’m super obsessed. I’m collecting the print manga’s so that I can read everything ahead of the episodes released each week. I’m also watching everything that I can find on YouTube as well. Needless to say, this anime is good as shit.

The Weekly Recap (176)

Posted January 3, 2022 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

First things first…

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope that everyone has been happy and safe, and healthy lately. I know that it’s been quite a while since I last posted and I’m sorry about that. I was living it up. Haha, not really but I did go to Day 1 and Day 2 of the BTS concerts in Los Angeles and I had an absolute blast. I didn’t take many pictures of myself over there since the first day, I went by myself, and on the second day, I swore I was going to do better but I lied because I was too busy dancing like Jin at the end of the year award shows. Poor Meghan, I was sweating all over her too, haha. For my non-Army friends, this is what I looked like during both concerts…

I sang at the top of my lungs, too so I know that I was featured in every video of the people recording around me. I had an amazing time though. It was crazy how there were so many people there and everywhere that I looked, everyone was masked up correctly. I mean sure, we got a lot of shit for not being loud enough with our fan chants but whatever, I heard the chants, and we were all masked up so can’t nobody can tell me nothing.

Army is different though. I snagged a last-minute ticket for Day 1 since I was in L.A. for Thanksgiving and I went by myself but I never once felt like I was by myself. I was surrounded everywhere that I went. I chatted with other Army while standing in line, waiting to get in. Talked to someone from Canada, from NorCal, even a group of Army that traveled to Inglewood from Korea. Then once I got to my seat, I sat in between two different groups who included me in their concert experience, and though I’m normally very quiet amongst strangers, I felt very comfortable and even pretty grateful to everyone for including me. Two young girls (I’d say about early twenties) sat to the left of me and they were brand spanking new Army. They didn’t know a lot of the older songs but they still cheered with everything they had. Same with the ladies on the right of me. I screamed the fan chants and sang all of the songs loud enough for all of us and even after the concert, I walked out with everyone I sat with and they even walked with me to where I was meeting my best friend who was picking me up from the concert (because of course I didn’t drive, it was madness walking out of the venue but it was complete mayhem driving out). On top of how kind everyone was to me, I also saw trash piled up all nice and neat near all of the trashcans and tripped out seeing that too. It makes sense though because BTS strives to do and be better for us Army so I find myself striving to do and be better for them. I guess everyone at the concert on the days that I was there felt the same way.

The second day, I went with my niece Meghan and I was just as crazy in my happiness then as I was the first day. Brenna and Kenna dropped and picked us up from the concert and while we were walking into SoFi, we made sure that the Army’s around us didn’t walk alone. We helped the Army’s that were there by themselves take pictures, we held their stuff so that they can take pictures, we walked with them inside so they weren’t alone and we also made sure to help others who were lost get to where they needed to be. We sat next to a girl who traveled all the way from Japan by herself so when she tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to help her figure out how to meet up with the Army she sold her seat to, I gladly left my seat to help her figure it out. She was thankful that she gave me and Meghan a bunch of Japanese snacks and I thought that was super cool. We had an absolute blast singing and dancing along to every single song. The concert made Meghan even more Army than she was before and I love being a part of her Army journey. She’s watching BTS Run episodes while she’s on break from school and she’s loving every minute. She’s in grad school to become Doctor Meg so she’s always studying and doing school work. She’s also always stressed out so seeing her enjoy BTS content that makes her laugh and just happy makes me feel good for making her watch BTS videos with me last year.

I can’t freaking wait to see BTS in concert again because the entire show was lit and they performed so well. They were also so stinkin’ funny and just really good at their job. I was thrilled to see Sienna Lalau at the concerts dancing alongside the boys as well. She’s such a great performer as well. The concert was so much fun and ended the year on such a positive note for me. The whole weekend was magic and I can’t wait to do it all again….even jump in the Squid Game to get some concert tickets.

Aside from the concert, I went home again last month to spend Christmas with my Dad so that my siblings can come and go to their in-laws and not have to worry about my Dad being alone. I always have fun with my Dad so I was happy even though we stayed indoors the entire time that I was there because it rained cats and dogs every freaking day. I think the one gripe I had about my trip back home was that I can’t open my sister’s front door so one night it was pouring rain outside and I ordered pho for dinner and when it was delivered, I had to go out the back door, walk all the way around the house to the front, fighting with the wind and the rain that kept trying to blow my umbrella away, all for some damn soup. By the time I got back inside, my pajama bottoms were soaked but the soup was bomb so alls well that ends well.

Alright, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

The Red Sleeve (2021) | 4.5 out of 5
The Unforgivable (2021) | 4.5 out of 5
Demon Slayer, S2 E5

I’m so sad that The Red Sleeve is finished. I really enjoyed that show from beginning to end and Lee Jun Ho is fine as hell so I’m gonna miss seeing his beautiful face on my screen.

I also watched The Unforgivable with Sandra Bullock. That movie was good but it was also hard to watch because Sandra really went through it and that ending was bittersweet to me. I wish everything else had been wrapped nice and neat but oh well, the overall movie was a good one.

One of the highlights of my week is watching the weekly episode of Demon Slayer with my best friend, Therese. Our running commentary throughout the episode always makes me laugh. What cracks me up the most is how much we both love us some Tengen and can’t get over how big all of his wives boobs are. Hahaha.

What I’m Reading

Human Acts by Han Kang
Webtoon x BTS
Save Me

I’m finally reading some actual books, you guys! I’m participating in some book clubs this year and the first book up for the RM Book Club is Human Acts by Han Kang. This book is about the uprising in Gwangju and it is pretty dark and just..yikes. I don’t know what I was expecting but I wasn’t expecting so much death off the rip. This story is also told in like second person? It’s like the main character has amnesia and someone is filling them in on what’s going. I’ve never read this kind of story before so it’s interesting.

I also started the BTS webtoons, both of them and I’m really liking Save Me. Not much has happened in Webtoon x BTS so though I liked what I’ve read so far, it ain’t much. I can only read these webtoons in pieces so I’m starting all sorts of webtoons this week, I just know it. I’ll update again next week.

The Weekly Recap (175)

Posted October 4, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

This last week of work has seriously sucked ass. More than one day was shot to shit because everyone is busy, nobody can take any more work so it’s taking me a lot longer to do my work and when people don’t listen, it pisses me off because I can never say what I want to say to them. At least I’ve vented my frustrations to my boss and she seems to hear me and want to make things better for me and my colleagues. We’ll see what this coming week brings me. Fingers crossed that its peace.

Anyway, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

Taxi Driver | 4 out of 5
The Vanished | 4 out of 5

Thoughts on This Week’s Episodes

Police University: Ugh, I’m a bit bummed that one of my favorite characters ended up being something that I’m hesitating to believe is actually true. This show is wrapping up and though I think the first half was a lot stronger than the second half, I’m still enjoying this show and I’m still loving the hell out of Sun Ho and Kang Hee and their squad. I’m pretty anxious to see how this all comes together. The end is near and I don’t know how I feel about that yet.

The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim: This week’s episode was short and not at all sweet. I wanted to smack the hell out of Ga Doo Shim. She’s supposed to be the billy bad ass shaman but it takes her forever to react and make a move when she’s in the middle of fighting the bad spirits. Poor Na Woo Soo, he gotta do everything his damn self because Doo Shim be taking her sweet ass time shaking herself off. Even the annoying girl that likes Woo Soo was faster to step up and fight the evil spirit. Get it together, Doo Shimah!

Lovers of the Red Sky: I’m still really enjoying this show and this week brought the love triangle out and though I’m not a big fan of those damn things, I’m liking the second lead just enough for this one to be interesting. Sorry second lead, I’m still Team Ha Ram.

Hometown Cha Cha Cha: This week’s episodes weren’t my favorite episodes of the show so far but despite the cheesiness and my disappointment in both Hye Jin and Du Sik for some immature shit that had me scratching my head, the way that this week’s episodes ended dimmed my disappointment in the immature way that Hye Jin treated Du Sik before they came out as a couple to the town a bit so I’m glad that alls well that ends well. I am looking forward to the next few episodes though. I’m really wanting to see how Du Sik’s past comes to light.

Lost: Man, this show is such an emotional one and though it’s hard to get through sometimes, I’m glad that I stick with it because even through the slowness of the storytelling, there are bright beaming moments that really gets me right in my heart. Each character is going through their own struggles and struggling to keep it together and I’m pretty anxious to see more.

Yumi’s Cells: Ooh we got jealous Yumi this week and I was so here for it! This show is just too cute for words. Between Yumi’s cells, Woong’s cells, and their sweet romance, there’s a lot going on that I think is so cute so I’m completely invested in this show. The way that the first episode ended was so stinkin’ cute that I can’t stand it. The second episode of the week was a little cheesy but I didn’t mind too much. I just didn’t really understand why it was so hard for Yumi to just be upfront about the damn glass windowed bathroom. What was so hard about telling him it was the only oceanview room left was the one she got? But I guess they needed to go through that entire day to get to that episode’s ending and…hot damn!! 😛

The Veil: I started this show this week while I waited for English subtitles for my other shows and I’m hella glad that I did because this show is good. It’s smart, it’s action packed, and I’m piecing the puzzle right along with the main lead and just like him, I need answers. I’m invested in what happened to him last year before his accident and the romantic in me is curious to see if he hooks up with his partner. I hope so. LOL. The opposites attract thing is really working for me. I can’t wait for more episodes.

What I Listened To

My Universe by Coldplay feat. BTS

This music video gave me life! It’s one of those music videos that warmed me right up. The song is great, the message behind the song and then the video??? Yeah, they did everything right and I love it so much! Hologram JK, the Kim line visual, Hoseok’s space lady love interest, Jimin’s high notes, and Suga owning his verse? Yeah, I love this song and video so much!

Ugh by BTS

This song matched my mood at work every day this week so it got a lot of playing time because can I ugh (ugh)??

Trivia 轉: Seesaw

To mellow myself out after the aggressive flows in Ugh, I listened to Suga calm my ass down with this song. I even did the dance in my head every single time I listened to this.
