The Weekly Recap (172)

Posted September 13, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

I’m back!!! For what seems like the hundredth time this year but what can I say? A bitch was busy, haha. I just got back from a week in Colorado where we celebrated the wedding of my nephew, Seth. It was the first time in a very long time, that all of my siblings were in attendance for a family event. With a family as big as ours, someone is always missing but not this time around. We all came together to celebrate Seth’s big day with him and though it was heavily chaotic, it was still a lot of fun and the wedding itself was absolutely beautiful.

This is the first picture that we’ve taken all together in years as well so it was a pretty big deal for us. So, please enjoy the picture cause who knows when we’ll take another one.

I haven’t been reading anything and I’m not going to freak out about it. I’ll get back to reading again when I feel like it but in the meantime, I’m enjoying what I am doing and that’s watching kdramas and listening to kpop. I’m not going to recap what I’ve been watching and listening to for the entire time that I’ve been away from the blog because I don’t remember anyway so here we go…

Let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…
What I Watched

D.P. | 4.25 out of 5
Uncontrollaby Fond | 2.75 out of 5

I really enjoyed D.P. Dramas with Jung Hae In always start off so well for me but then they nosedive and I end up pissed off about one thing or another and though there was plenty of things to be mad about in D.P. I still enjoyed the show as a whole and I plan to review that one soon so be on the lookout for that review. Uncontrollably Fond pissed me off from beginning to end. I was mad at someone new every episode…all the way until the very end but I kept on watching because 1) Kim Woo Bin is fine as hell and 2) I had to see how things ended with everyone. I’ll be reviewing this one as well so stay tuned for that.
Thoughts on This Week’s Episodes

Police University: I watched episodes 9 & 10 this week and my mind wandered during most of episode 9. It didn’t wander enough that I lost track of what was going on but it was a little slow for me. I get that things are starting to amp up toward the end but I don’t know, these weren’t my favorite episodes. I will say that I sincerely hope that the big bad isn’t anyone that I like. There are a couple of people that I’m thinking it might be and if I’m right, I’m going to be pissed. So…please, please, please don’t be who I think it is.

The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim: This is a show with super short episodes and I kind of wish I would have started it when all of the episodes aired because I’m always thirsty for more and disappointed when the week’s episodes end. Needless to say, I’m really invested in the evil spirit at the high school and I’m really invested in the blooming romance between Ga Doo Shim and Na Woo Soo. The chemistry between them is pretty great and I can’t wait for the next couple of episodes to see what happens with the new student in last place. Will they survive or nah?

Lovers of the Red Sky: Of all of the shows that I’m watching, this show is probably my favorite. I hope it doesn’t hit a middle of the show snag because the first four episodes of this show have had me hooked. I’m loving the story, the characters, and even the love triangle. It’s not much of a love triangle right now since both of the main leads are pretty cemented in their feelings but the second lead?? I like him…just not for the main female lead.

Lost: This is the newest drama that I’m watching and I’ve watched the first four episodes. It’s a lot darker in tone than the other shows that I’m watching and it’s steeped in the real world shit (not fantasy) but I’m really enjoying it so far. Can I just say that Ryu Joon Yeol is such a cool actor? He plays these roles so well. The quiet and reserved character that is fumbling through life but you’ll never know it because he’s too cool for school.
What I Streamed for BTS

Butter by BTS, feat. Megan Thee Stallion

I’m liking this remix better than the other versions of this song and I’m streaming this for all I’m worth. It’s disappointing that we haven’t hit 50 million streams of this song on YouTube yet and I’m wondering why that is. Are the only ones enjoying this remix, the international fans? Curiouser and curiouser.

Permission to Dance by BTS

I have learned this dance (sorry, I’m not filming that, haha) so every morning, I start my day doing this dance three times before getting ready for the day. I wasn’t lying to my doctor when I told her that the only exercise that I’m getting these days is when I learn a new BTS dance. This dance is so much fun and super easy so yeah, I’m doing it every chance that I can cause I don’t need permission to dance.

Idol by BTS

I was streaming this video so that we can hit 1 billion views on it (we were so close) and…WE DID IT! I think this was like the sixth BTS video to hit 1 billion views and I’m super happy to have been a part of that so now I’m going through their videos on YouTube to see which video I’m going to throw myself into streaming for this week. I’ll fill you guys in on that next week. This is such a great song too. You can’t stop me loving myself…
What Made Me Laugh

There you have it, my week in review. I’ll be back next week with a more thorough review of my week since I didn’t do much last week. How was your week?

The Weekly Recap (171)

Posted July 19, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

Work has been kicking my ass in the last couple of weeks (more so than normal) so I skipped last week’s Weekly Recap so this week, you get two weeks of what I’ve been up to.

Before I start, I want to give two of my besties the biggest shout-out because they are always thinking about me, and I appreciate them so much. I got a package from them in the mail this week with a BTS magazine that Therese saw in the store and picked up for me and some of the cutest BTS stickers that BNice included in the package. It brightened my day so THANKS GUYS! I HELLA LOVE Y’ALL!

Here’s a JK hand kiss just for you guys! Haha.

Next week, I’m hosting a girl’s weekend here in Vegas for my nephew’s fiance. We’re doing our side’s bridal shower and everyone is coming to my house for it. We’ll be doing touristy things around town but our home base for the weekend will be my house and I’m thrilled to be hosting my first party with my fam. This weekend was for deep cleaning the shit out of my house. I took everything out of my pantry and washed all of the glass storage containers, I took the rice out of the giant rice jar and washed that. Did the same thing all around the house. I cleaned the base boards, I scrubbed my bathroom from top to bottom and made myself a little dizzy with all of the bleach fumes but everything is clean. This week is for washing all the towels, hand towels, blankets, and everything so that folks will have clean things to use. This coming weekend, Ingrid and I plan on starting our Family picture wall so I’m pretty excited about that. I’ll be sure to take pictures and share them afterward.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…
What I Watched

My Roommate is a Gumiho (2021) | 4.25 out of 5
Search: WWW (2018) | 3.5 out of 5
The 8th Night (2021) | out of 5

I can’t believe that My Roommate is a Gumiho is finished. I enjoyed the hell out of that show and the chemistry between everyone involved was evident in each episode. I’ll be reviewing it soon on the blog so be on the lookout for that. I also finished watching Search: WWW and that was another solid drama but not my favorite. I enjoyed the secondary romance more than the main one but both romances drove me a little up the wall. I loved that the show featured three very different, but super strong women figures and told their individual stories. I also watched and enjoyed The 8th Night on Netflix.

I also decided that I was going to start a series re-watch of one of my all-time favorite shows, One Tree Hill and I think I’m going to start this week…right, Therese? Haha. I’m roping my bestie into watching it with me from L.A. and I don’t plan on binge-watching it so I won’t be rushing through this re-watch. I’ll watch a few episodes each week until I’m done. I was inspired to do a re-watch after listening to my three favorite gals, Hilarie Burton, Sophia Bush, and Bethany Joy Lenz talk about the show and giving us fans a behind the scenes look back into their experiences and their memories from shooting the show.

Their podcast is such a fun listen and I make sure to never miss an episode. If you guys are fans of One Tree Hill, you should check out their podcast called Drama Queens. I listen to them on Spotify but you can check them out on all sorts of places. I’ll definitely be blogging about my OTH re-watch so that’s something I’m looking forward to.

Thoughts on This Week’s Episodes from the Drama’s I’m Watching

Racket Boys (2021): This week’s episode continues to be so freaking wholesome that I can’t stand it. Just kidding, I love this show. I loved that it’s a lot different from the other shows that I’m watching and I absolutely adore each and every single team member on the girls’ and the boys’ badminton teams. They’re finally playing in the Nationals tournament and the girls aren’t as confident as the boys and I really like Se Yoon’s character. She’s Team Hae Kang so he better win his match against Park Chan better stay in his lane.

Imitation (2021): I started this show this week on a whim, after seeing it while browsing Viki. I’m glad that I did because I’m enjoying it. I’m really liking the female lead and though I’m much more into the second male lead (but not with the main female lead, her friend from her girl group who has an obvious crush on the second lead). It’s an interesting look into the kpop world and man, all of that work and shit that these idols have to go through, only for them to lose their privacy and have their every waking minute scheduled – couldn’t be me but it makes me feel better to help my idols in any way that I can. By supporting them, streaming their music, and buying their merch.
What I Read

Battle Royal (Palace Insiders #1) by Lucy Parker | 4 out of 5
This was another solid book by Lucy Parker. She never fails to deliver delightful romances and I’m glad that I read this one.
Song of the Week

Permission to Dance

July 9th was Army’s birthday and BTS gifted us with a song that Ed Sheeran co-wrote for them. It was another upbeat song with a hopeful message and included sign language in their dance choreography for Disability Pride month and I’m really digging the song. The song, the vibe, the dance, all of it is wrapped up in a happy BTS performance that just makes me super happy. I know that it wasn’t for everyone and I saw all over YouTube, TikTok, and even Twitter that there was a part of Army that didn’t love the song for one reason or another. I’m not going to say anything on that. Folks can love or not love anything but me? I love the song, I love the music video and I loved what BTS continues to do for us fans. I love that they continue to give us hope that spring will come through the music they release. So let’s dance through the tough times. Let’s laugh and be happy because we may need permission to do most everything right now but we don’t need permission to dance so let’s do that.
What I Got

What I Got for Review

This is how I looked through Edelweiss and Netgalley this week, trying to see if any new review copies looked interesting to me but I didn’t see anything that I absolutely had to read so I didn’t get anything. Hmm. Maybe next week.

The Weekly Recap (170)

Posted July 5, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

It’s been a quiet week of me training Brenna all week so lots of work information is being shared and retained (fingers crossed!). We stayed in for the holiday, only went out in the heat for groceries and we’re going to run some errands today but aside from that, we’ve been watching a lot of content. BTS content for me and Bretman Rock content for Brenna. We tried watching a movie together and that movie was boring and low-key dumb so we didn’t even finish it.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…
What I Watched

Doom at Your Service (2021) | 3.75 out of 5
Nevertheless, (2021) | DNF
Fear Street Part 1: 1994 (2021) | DNF

I’ll be reviewing Doom at Your Service so I won’t get into that show but the other two? Not for me. Nevertheless was slow and the push and pull and just everything about the episode I watched didn’t catch my attention so I quit it. I’m not sure if I’ll go back and finish it though, right now, I’m for sure not in the mood for it so I skipped it.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 was the movie that Brenna and I chose to watch together and it was corny as shit and just not my style of horror so we quit it. No thanks.

Weekly Episode Thoughts

My Roommate is a Gumiho (2021): I’m really enjoying this show and I enjoyed this week’s episodes too. I’m disappointed with Woo Yeo doing what he did even though I understand his reasoning for doing what he did, I was still disappointed. I don’t have an answer for how to fix things for him but the way that he did it? Gah, I just….gah. I understand Lee Dam’s reaction and felt her hurt because I was feeling the same thing. I still love Woo Yeo though. I still ship the hell out of him and Lee Dam. I’m also really loving the secondary romance as well. They are too freaking cute. I can’t wait for the final four episodes. I’m freaking ready.

Racket Boys (2021): This damn show is so wholesome that I love it to pieces. I love all of the boys and am really liking the little sweet romances between the main character and his girl and then the secondary romance between the captain and the girl that is always trying to protect the national athlete girl. I really need to learn their names because my mind is completely blank right now. This week’s episodes were more of what I’ve come to expect from this show and I’m loving every minute.

Search: WWW (2019): I just started this show yesterday and I’m about halfway through the series and am enjoying it. After the first episode, I was on the fence about finishing it but the second and third episodes cemented the deal for me. I’m liking it, the strong female element, the super sexy love interest (okayyyy Jang Ki Yong) and I’m really excited to finish it. The writing is strong, the acting is fantastic and I’m really loving how different each main female character is.
What I Read

The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary | 4.25 out of 5
So We Meet Again by Suzanne Park | 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed both books that I read this past week so I’m looking forward to seeing what this week’s reads bring. The Flatshare was super cute and I loved both characters and honestly, the same goes for So We Meet Again. Like I said, both books were just good so I recommend this.
What I Listened To

Outro: Tear

This is the song that I’m listening to on a constant basis (outside of my Butter streams, of course). I watched a performance of this song a couple of weeks ago and J Hope’s verse and performance made me cry. I didn’t even realize that this was the song that Suga was talking about in one of those Burn the Stage documentaries that I watched early in my BTS journey. It’s become one of my favorite songs right now. It hits differently, knowing the background behind it and yeah, I’m still listening to it and loving it.
What I Got

The Spanish Deception by Elena Armas
For Vacation Only by Mila Nicks
Reel by Kennedy Ryan

I’ve been seeing good reviews of these books around so you know I had to get them.
What I Got for Review
Nothing caught my attention this week so I didn’t get anything for review.

The Weekly Recap (169)

Posted June 14, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 8 Comments

This week was a busy week for me. My best friend and I decided on a spur of the moment movie binge of the Conjuring movies and though I could have finished it, my virtual BTS concert at 2:30AM my time on both Saturday and Sunday tapped me out for anything else. I still have the last two movies to watch in The Conjuring series (I started watching the movies by release date but then switched things up and continued the series chronologically) so what’s left for me is The Conjuring 2 and The Conjuring 3. I’ll get those watched this week. Because I spent most of my time watching those movies, my BTS concert, and getting some books read for my book club yesterday, I didn’t watch any of my Korean Dramas this week so I’ll catch up on that stuff this week as well.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…
What I Watched

The Conjuring (2013) | 4.25 out of 5
Annabelle (2014) | 3.25 out of 5
The Nun (2018) | 3.5 out of 5
Annabelle Creation (2017) | 3.75 out of 5
Annabelle Comes Home (2019) | 4 out of 5
The Curse of La Llorona (2019) | 4.25 out of 5

I plan on reviewing these movies here on the blog (I know, right? Me watching Western movies? I’ve been getting into scary movies more and more lately.) so I’ll let you know here that my favorite movie of the bunch listed above is probably The Curse of La Llorona. My least favorite is probably the original Annabelle. Stay tuned for why.

BTS Muster 2021

When I tell you I will never miss another online concert from BTS, I mean it. June 13th is BTS’s birthday (the day they debuted as a band) and they always celebrate starting June 1st with lots of goodies (online content on their YouTube channel, on their Twitter, on Weverse, etc…) for Army to enjoy and then they end the festivities with a fan event, concert that are called Musters. This year’s Muster concert was the very first one that I watched Live and let me tell you, they slayed that entire two hours. They sang a bunch of older songs, some of their newer songs, and holy shit, some songs that I wasn’t expecting but jumped out of my seat and danced to.

I’m low key worried about the kind of Army I’m going to be at a live show because in the privacy of my home? I was hyped the hell up! Like, too hyped. It was fan-freaking-tastic and we got TWO NIGHTS of music from these guys. To say that Army is well fed by BTS is putting it mildly because we are spoiled.
What I Read

Devil in Disguise (The Ravenels #7) by Lisa Kleypas | 4.5 out of 5
Lord of Scoundrels (Scoundrels #3) by Loretta Chase | 4.25 out of 5

Song of the Week

Daechwita by Agust D

If you watched the Sowoozoo BTS 2021 Muster concert this weekend, you know why this song is this week’s song of the week. Best performance of the weekend, hands down!
What I Got

Nothing to report this week. I wanted to pick up some more print books for my library but I couldn’t make up my mind on what books I had to have right away so I ended up not getting anything. Maybe this week will be a better week? Who knows.

The Weekly Recap (168)

Posted June 7, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

Hey everyone! You guys miss me? LOL. I’ve got no good excuse for my month-long hiatus, I just didn’t feel like blogging. I spent the last few weeks keeping up with my YouTube subscriptions, reading some books, reading some webtoons and cleaning my house. My sister did come into town for a week and stayed at our house so I played host and that was fun. Other than that, I’ve just been chilling and keeping to myself.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…
What I Watched

Law School: Law School is wrapping up and this week is for the finale. I’m really enjoying this show. After Taxi Driver, this was my second favorite weekly drama. Kang Sol A is still my favorite and I’m still hoping for something to happen with Joon Hwi. So last week, lots of plot twists and shenanigans pop off and the way that episode 15 ended, had me jumping for joy. These law school students are smart and they’re tenacious and I’m so here to see how all of this wraps up because Assemblyman Ko needs to go down at all costs.

My Roommate is a Gumiho: I was very interested in watching this show because I really enjoyed Hyeri’s acting in Reply 1988. I became an instant fan of hers while watching that show and so I wanted to support her new show. I’m glad that I did because this show is cute and it’s fun and it’s got a cast of outstanding visuals. Every single person in this show is drop dead gorgeous. On top of an amazing looking cast, the story is cute and the chemistry between the two main leads is great too. I’ll definitely be watching more of this.

Racket Boys: Taxi Driver finished last week so I was searching for something to take its place on my weekly drama watching schedule and came across this one. I adored the main character in Crash Landing on You, and Move to Heaven so I’m looking forward to getting to know him in this new role. I’m also really stoked to see one of the team badminton players play a character that I actually like, instead of the bully he played in Taxi Driver. The first two episodes released last week so I watched it over the weekend and I’m in. I love all of the badminton players, even the girls and the Mom in this show was in Sky Castle and I liked her in that one so I’m hoping that I’ll like her character more in this show.

Doom at Your Service: I’m all caught up on this show and it’s an interesting show that is different from the other shows that I’m watching on a weekly basis so it adds some variety that makes me happy. Park Bo Young is what drew me to this show (I adored her in Strong Woman Do Bong Soon and Abyss) so I’m looking forward to supporting her in this show. So far, this show has intrigued me. From the storyline, to the characters, and to Park Bo Gum’s particular story, I’m completely hooked.
What I Read

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Vol. 12 | 4.25 out of 5
To Sir with Love by Lauren Layne | 3.5 out of 5

I finished two books this week and that makes me happy. I enjoyed both books though the Lauren Layne isn’t a favorite of mine. Layne has a way of writing that never fails to keep me interested in what comes next for her characters and that was the case with To Sir with Love. Volume 12 of Demon Slayer was another fantastic addition to that series and I’m seriously looking forward to the second season of that show to return.
Song of the Week

Butter by BTS

I’m still streaming the hell out of Butter. Being part of Army comes with streaming duties and I take mine seriously. I’ve never been as involved in a fan base as I am for BTS. I grew up being a fangirl of boy bands and even musical groups before but never like this. Butter is a great song and I absolutely adore it so it’s not a hardship to stream the song on Spotify and watch the music video on YouTube. If you’re Army like me, make sure you’re streaming Butter! We have streaming goals to meet and records to break! Borahae!
