This week’s post is coming a little later than normal since I was sick as a dog over the weekend and called in sick on Monday to rest up then yesterday was spent catching up on everything that wasn’t done on Monday so here we are.

Unraveled1
Unraveled (Woodlands #3) by Jen Frederick

Twenty-five-year-old Sgt. Gray Phillips is at a crossroads in his life: stay in the Marine Corps or get out and learn to be a civilian? He’s got forty-five days of leave to make up his mind but the people in his life aren’t making the decision any easier. His dad wants him to get out; his grandfather wants him to stay in. And his growing feelings for Sam Anderson are wreaking havoc with his heart…and his mind. He believes relationships get ruined when a Marine goes on deployment. So now he’s got an even harder decision to make: take a chance on Sam or leave love behind and give his all to the Marines.

Twenty-two year old Samantha Anderson lost her husband to an IED in Afghanistan just two months after their vows. Two years later, Sam is full of regrets—that she didn’t move with her husband to Alaska; that she allowed her friends to drift away; that she hasn’t taken many chances in life. Now, she’s met Gray and taking a risk on this Marine could be her one opportunity to feel alive and in love again. But how can she risk her heart on another military man who could share the same tragic fate as her husband?

I’m on a Jen Frederick high. I want to read everything I can get my hands on by her right now. I’m going to start by finishing the Woodlands series and then I’ll see what I’m in the mood for after that. Probably Angel’s Blood by Nalini Singh or Hunting Ground by Patricia Briggs. One of those.

So, I’m completely obsessed with this song. It’s such a feel good song and I have lost count of how many times I’ve listened to it at work in the last couple of weeks.

I’m not sure why I’m sharing that on this post but well, I did. Enjoy!

Jock Blocked II
Jock Blocked (Gridiron #2) by Jen Frederick

She’s always played it safe…

College junior Lucy Washington abides by one rule—avoid risk at all costs. She’s cautious in every aspect of her life, from her health, to her mock trial team, to the boring guys she dates. When a brash, gorgeous jock walks into the campus coffeeshop and turns his flirt on, Lucy is stunned by the force of attraction. For the first time ever, she’s willing to step out of her comfort zone, but can she really trust the guy who’s determined to sweep her off her feet?

He’s always played around…

Entering his last year of college eligibility, linebacker Matthew “Matty” Iverson has the team captaincy in his sights. And it’s his for the taking, if he can convince his quarterback Ace Anderson to give up the starting position. Luckily, Matty already has an edge—the hottie he’s lusting over just happens to be Ace’s childhood best friend. Getting Lucy on his side and in his bed? Hell yeah. Matty is more than confident he can have both, but when he falls hard for Lucy, it’s time for a new game plan: convince the woman of his dreams that she’s not sleeping with the enemy.

I’ve read all of my February review books (well, I DNF’d one of them but more on that later) and I can finally, FINALLY reward myself with THIS BOOK! I can’t wait to dig into this one. I’m only about two chapters in but this is what I’ll be reading for the rest of the day. Matty Iverson? Come to Mama!

Read

Against the Wall by Jill Sorenson | 4 out of 5
Dare to Run (Sons of Steel Row #1) by Jen McLaughlin | DNF
Roommates by Erin Leigh | 4.25 out of 5

My favorite read of the week is Roommates by Erin Leigh. That was such a cute NA read that was recommended by my book buddy JenB. I really enjoyed it and thought the main couple was too cute for words. I loved seeing them circle each other while they were roomies. Fighting their attraction, admitting there is an attraction and then jumping in. Such a cute story.

I also really adored Against the Wall by Jill Sorenson. I was so invested in both Eric and Meghan’s story. I loved seeing them again in this book and seeing Noah, April and Jenny again after all this time. It was another enjoyable read by Jill Sorenson and I was happy with their story. So good!

Which brings me to my least favorite read of the week. I DNF’d Dare to Run because the heroine got on my hot damn nerves and I couldn’t really connect with the hero and I really wanted to. Couldn’t do it, so I moved on.

Reviewed

None. I really need to get my shit together and write some damn reviews.

Week in Books (7)

week-in-books

I had a lot of stuff going on last week. League started for the girls so I’ve been busy with basketball stuff. We have games every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday for the next couple of months. Talk about busy, busy, busy. Add in my shows are coming back too? When will I even find the time to read? Haha, yeah right. TV would go before my books.

Ken started first and played against Inglewood and Morningside this week and both games were blowouts. I heard they beat Morningside by like 72 points. Ouch.

Bren and Cher started their season against Centennial and that was a boring game but…BRENNA BROUGHT HER ALGEBRA 2 GRADE UP SO SHE’S BACK IN ACTION! She had an impressive first game back with about 14 points so it was the perfect game to come back to and get all of the cobwebs out. North killed Centennial on Wednesday and then faced off against West (our rivals) and eeked out a win against them too. It was a controversial win but hey, know the rules! Brenna needs to be more aggressive. It drives me nuts that she kept getting beat under the basket because she don’t want to box anyone out. [rolls eyes] She made up for my being mad at her in the first half with that charge she took in the second half that sparked us taking the lead and keeping the lead for the rest of the game..but still.

Meghan is playing college ball now and she’s doing what she’s always done. Getting shit done. She’s averaging 17.3 points a game and leads the SCC South Division in points. Woot! Too bad her team sucks. LOL.

Lukey played again this week and Brenna and I went to support that little guy. He still continues to refuse to rebound or shoot the ball but he’s still the best dang dribbler on the court. No double dribbling or traveling (much) for him. Ha! And at least this week, his team got on the board. They lost 8-12 so all in all, it’s progress!

Fans of Katie McGarry, Simone Elkeles, and Tammara Webber will love Against the Wall! As teenagers, they fell for each other despite the odds. But now that Eric and Meghan are all grown up, they’re reunited by fierce passion and dangerous secrets.

Eric Hernandez is the bad boy of every schoolgirl’s fantasies—and every mother’s nightmares. But after serving time for manslaughter, he’s ready to turn his life around. He just needs a chance to prove himself as a professional tattoo artist. The one thing that keeps him going is the memory of the innocent beauty he loved and left behind.

Meghan Young’s world isn’t as perfect as it looks. The preacher’s daughter is living a lie, especially now that Eric is back. Tougher, harder, and sexier than ever, he might be the only person she can trust. But there’s no telling what he’ll do to protect her if he learns the truth, and that’s a risk Meghan won’t let him take. And yet, back in the arms of the troubled boy with the artist’s soul, Meghan can’t help surrendering to the man he’s become.

I haven’t started this yet but I’m planning on starting it sometime today but I’m super excited about starting it because well, you can read all about why I’m excited to read this book here.

Oh man, we finally got Dean’s book and I loved it. I loved Dean a whole lot more than I was expecting and that book was easily my favorite read of the week. Holy cow, that man whore Dean was all that and a bag of chips. The other books that I read were all equally enjoyable…and all books that I’ve been itching to read for some time now. It was a damn good reading week for me.

score

The Score (Off Campus #3) by Elle Kennedy

He knows how to score, on and off the ice

Allie Hayes is in crisis mode. With graduation looming, she still doesn’t have the first clue about what she’s going to do after college. To make matters worse, she’s nursing a broken heart thanks to the end of her longtime relationship. Wild rebound sex is definitely not the solution to her problems, but gorgeous hockey star Dean Di-Laurentis is impossible to resist. Just once, though, because even if her future is uncertain, it sure as heck won’t include the king of one-night stands.

It’ll take more than flashy moves to win her over

Dean always gets what he wants. Girls, grades, girls, recognition, girls…he’s a ladies man, all right, and he’s yet to meet a woman who’s immune to his charms. Until Allie. For one night, the feisty blonde rocked his entire world—and now she wants to be friends? Nope. It’s not over until he says it’s over. Dean is in full-on pursuit, but when life-rocking changes strike, he starts to wonder if maybe it’s time to stop focusing on scoring…and shoot for love.

Dean’s book. Do not call me, do not email me. I’ll see you when I come up for air. 🙂

Alpha & Omega (Alpha & Omega #.5) by Patricia Briggs | 4.5 out of 5
Cry Wolf (Alpha & Omega #1) by Patricia Briggs | 4 out of 5

Thanks to the Five Books Everyone Should Read Challenge on Book Binge, I have finally discovered the Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs. For years, I’ve heard people raving about this series and I’m finally jumping in. I really enjoyed both stories that I’ve read so far and I’m definitely looking into reading more from this series once I get some of my review books out of the way.

Charles Cornick is my newest book boyfriend right now. He’s so full of yum and like I was telling my friend Tasha over the weekend, I’m totally picturing Uncas from Last of the Mohicans whenever Charles comes onto the scene.

Charles Cornick

Yep, that’s my Charles Cornick.

My Kind of Wonderful
My Kind of Wonderful (Cedar Ridge #2) by Jill Shalvis

UNEXPECTED AND UNDENIABLE…

Bailey Moore has an agenda: skiing in the Rockies, exploring castles in Europe, ballroom dancing in Argentina. Now that she has a second lease on life, she’s determined not to miss a thing. What she doesn’t realize is that item #1 comes with a six-foot-one ski god hot enough to melt a polar ice cap. She doesn’t want to miss out on him either, but Hudson Kincaid isn’t the type of guy to love and let go. And as gorgeous as Cedar Ridge is, she’s not planning to stick around.

As head of ski patrol at his family’s resort, Hud thinks he’s seen it all. But never has he run into someone like Bailey. She might look delicate, but her attitude is all firecracker. And her infectious joy touches something deep within him that he’s been missing far too long. Now he’ll just have to convince Bailey to take a chance on her biggest adventure yet . . . something rare and all kinds of wonderful.

I never started My American Duchess because I saw that I never read this book so I started it over the long weekend but didn’t get very far into it. I blame Hawaii 5-0. I haven’t been able to stop watching that show long enough to do much else.

So far, the book is good. It’s a little different in the sense that the heroine is a cancer survivor and her hair is still growing back and she’s still a bit frail from her fight with cancer but I’m finding that I’m really digging getting to know Bailey. So far, she’s rocking my socks. And Hudson? Yeah, Hud is just as big a stud as I knew he was going to be.

Read

Nothing. With the holidays and my marathon of Hawaii 5-0, reading took a back seat this week.
