The Weekly Recap (167)

Posted April 19, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

This week was a week of reflection and then filled up with things that made me happy to get me out of my melancholy thoughts that came with the anniversary of my Mom’s death and the general shit show that is our world these days. I didn’t do much, outside of my normal routine and I was okay with that. I like my daily to-do lists and I even like cleaning my house. So weird. Who even am I? I hated cleaning the house growing up. So I don’t have anything new to report though my book collection is slowly coming together. I’ll have my bookshelves filled up in no time.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

Taxi Driver
Rookie King
The Show
Weekly Idol
Law School
Haikyuu, Season Three

I spent the week in front of either my computer or my TV, watching different things and I didn’t realize until now that I had watched so many different things. There was a lot of BTS content consumed but I’m not about that since the boys kept me entertained.

Taxi Driver is fast becoming my favorite drama of the year (and it’s only April). The show started pretty strong, making me sit up and take notice of not just the main character, but of everything the show is about and the other characters as well. This show isn’t a romance drama but man am I hoping that the main guy doesn’t end up with the prosecutor. I’m pushing for him and his coworker, the hacker girl to heal each other of their tragic pasts. We’ll see where this goes but boy am I hoping for my ship to sail.

Viki’s got some BTS content on their site now and boy did my membership get a workout for all of the hours of BTS that I watched on there. Rookie King, The Show, Weekly Idol were some of the stuff that I watched this week and I enjoyed all of them. I really enjoyed seeing the boys early in their career performing their older songs.

Law School started this past week and the first two episodes are pretty interesting. I’m curious enough to keep watching and though I wasn’t blown away the same way that I was with Taxi Driver, I’m still excited to see where this new show takes us. I watched Haikyuu, Season Three over the weekend and it was another season of great storytelling. I’m really invested in everyone’s story on the team. My favorite character is Hinata and this season highlighted a lot of why I love him. The determination to be great with this guy is just so freaking good. I love it.

BTS Begins: 2015 Memories
5th Muster: The Magic Shop
Love Yourself, Speak Yourself Tour: San Paolo

This week was also for Bang Bang Con 2021. For me, it started on Friday at 11pm and ended, Saturday morning at damn near 7am. Your girl stayed up for all three concerts and had a grand ol’ time in my room, dancing and singing along with my Army bomb. I’m already looking forward to how lit I’m going to be at the concert. I’m ready…and of all the concerts that I’ve watched, I think my favorite is the 5th Muster, The Magic Shop. They sang most of my favorite songs during that concert and I thought I’d take a nap during that concert since I’ve already seen it (multiple times) but nope…I stayed up and sang along to Jump, to 2!3!, to Boyz with Fun, to Dimple, Pied Piper (Pied Piper JK is something else!) and don’t even get me started on the vocal line’s version of Ddaeng. That whole concert was a mood and I was here for it all, even at 4am!

Don’t get me wrong, I hella loved the first and third concerts. Early Suga was something special to behold. When he goes off during the Cypher performances, I was like okayyyyy Suga!! Then there was their performance of Born Singer (so good!) and I ain’t gonna front. I cried during the last concert when Jimin and JK were crying. But I thought the same things that they were thinking during that concert. They’re a Korean group that sings songs in Korean and they had Brazil singing along word for word to all of their songs…IN KOREAN. You can see the awe on the boy’s faces as they performed and took in the sight of all of these people showing up in Brazil for them. I’m telling you, these guys are legit.

What I Read

The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary | 3.75 out of 5

I read this book not too long after I finished The Switch and I enjoyed it though there were some slow parts in the middle. Still, Beth O’Leary is definitely an author that I will be paying more attention to these days.

What I Listened To

Film Out by BTS
Ugh by BTS
Boyz with Fun by BTS

These songs are making me so happy right now. Each song is so good and Ugh and Boyz with Fun never fail to get me hyped up for my day. When I’m mad at people that I work with or just work in general, I throw my earbuds in and turn on Ugh and Boyz with Fun and I get to work. I can’t stay mad if I’m listening to those songs.

What I Got

Magic Breaks (Kate Daniels #7) by Ilona Andrews
Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels #8) by Ilona Andrews
Magic Binds (Kate Daniels #9) by Ilona Andrews
Magic Triumphs (Kate Daniels #10) by Ilona Andrews

I’m telling you, my home library is really coming together. Sure, mostly it’s filled with all things Ilona Andrews and BTS but the books are coming in and it’s making me super happy.

What I Got for Review

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood
The Pick Up by Miranda Kenneally

The Weekly Recap (166)

Posted April 12, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

Last week was Spring Break and my brother brought his family to Vegas to get away from L.A. for a little bit so I took the week off too. It was so much fun to have family in town and I adore my brother’s kids so spending time with them and my Aunt and her kids, was like having a mini family reunion and I was all about it.

After my brother and his family left, I took it easy the rest of the week and watched a lot of cafe vlogs, bakery vlogs, and I start watching Taxi Driver with Lee Je Hoon (from Signal). There have only been two episodes so far and I’m completely hooked. I guess it’s time for another suspenseful drama. I’m also looking forward to starting Law School with Kim Bum and the older sister from Reply 1988 this week. Lots of great stuff to look forward to.

Brenna came out to Vegas this weekend to get some stuff out of her room to take to Utah. She moved into a house with two of her cousins so she’s living the big girl life and though at first, I was a little disappointed that she jumped into a lease so quickly after getting a job, I’m over that and now I’m just thrilled for her. We’ve always done things together and even though we’re apart now, we’re still a team and we’ll figure everything out together like normal.

My home library is coming together quite nicely though there aren’t that many books still… I’m working on it, I promise! I’ll share pictures soon, for real.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

Haikyuu, Season Two | 4.25 out of 5
Misaeng | 3.5 out of 5
Raya and the Last Dragon | 4 out of 5
Godzilla vs. Kong | 3.5 out of 5

After finishing the second season of Haikyuu, I took a short break to watch Misaeng, thinking a slight change of pace was needed but while I enjoyed the show overall, it was really slow. After finishing that show, with my brother and his kids in town, we did a couple of movie nights and watched Raya and the Last Dragon and then Godzilla vs. Kong. I haven’t watched ANY of the Godzilla movies or any of the Kong movies so I went into this movie not knowing what to expect but my nephew Rocky wanted to watch it so we did. I ended up liking it too…not enough to watch the other movies though. *shrugs*

What I Listened To

Spring Day by BTS
Dimple by BTS
Singularity by BTS

It was a slow jam kind of week so these three songs got a lot of playing time. Spring Day is one of my top BTS songs, I just love it so much and the performances for all three of these songs are just phenomenal.

What I Got

Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels #4) by Ilona Andrews
Magic Slays (Kate Daniels #5) by Ilona Andrews
Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6) by Ilona Andrews

Slowly, but surely, I’m making progress in building up my print library. I actually forgot to get more books this week because I took a break from all things computer and I normally order books off Amazon so I only got three books this week. I’ll jump back on this project this week, for sure though.

What I Got for Review

The Donut Trap by Julie Tieu

This book looks too cute to pass up so it was added to my review pile this week. I’ll read it soon.

The Weekly Recap (164)

Posted March 22, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 22 Comments

I spend a lot of my time working or working on my house and when I say working on my house, I mean putting my house together. This is really the first time that I’ve lived on my own and though my sister and I share a house, this house screams me. All of the things that I’ve ever wanted to do once I got in my own place, I’ve done here. From the bougie spice jars to the bougie as hell pantry, I’ve put together my dream house. This weekend my sister and I were productive as hell. We put our spice drawer together and it’s a thing of beauty though I’ll share pictures of that later.

We rearranged our living room to separate it from the dining room but we did it in a way that there’s more room in the dining area and even though we covered a window with our TV, the room is a lot brighter now than it was before. I’m not quite sure why that is but it is and it’s weird…but still, I really love the set up now and while putting our living room together, we made plans for our now bare wall where the TV used to be and I can’t wait to start crafting up a storm to fill that wall up. But here’s what our new set up looks like and I’m one happy camper. Our TV looks so much bigger where it is now and I love it.

I finally put up the Samoan prints that we got a few months ago and I’m really happy with the culture that it brings to our living space. We still have a few island pieces that we need to get frames and shadow boxes for but we plan on getting that done in the next week or so. I’ll update you with more pictures once we finish that up. We’re also searching for two chairs to put up against our picture wall (the bare white wall on the right, above the barrel) so I’ll busy myself with that search because I’m eager to finish off the living room before I start working on my personal library (*squee* My inner book nerd is beyond excited for that). I’ve been looking for white bookshelves for months to match my office desk but I guess everyone else wanted white bookshelves too because everywhere I looked, they were sold out. So I finally changed my mind and bought some other bookshelves and will be putting that together in the next few weeks and then I’ll start gathering print books again. Yippy skippy!

I’ll keep everyone posted on my progress throughout the house but that’s all for now.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

Demon Slayer | 4.25 out of 5
The King (2017) | 3.25 out of 5
Cold Eyes (2013) | 4.25 out of 5

I watched Demon Slayer with my friend Therese and I really liked it. It’s a little on the gory side but it was an interesting anime with a fantastic sibling story. I’m curious about the next season though I’m even more curious about when the next season will drop. I heard we’re getting the movie coming to theaters next month and I plan on being at the theater to watch that. I’m pretty anxious for that, tbh.

I watched two movies this weekend and one I really liked, while the other one I was pissed off throughout most of the movie and liked the ending. Cold Eyes was a Jimin recommendation and I really liked it. I’m really into crime thrillers and this was a smart one that had me cheering on the good guys from the jump. I really like Han Hyo Joo so it was nice to see her in action again in Cold Eyes. I ended up liking The King but I spent a good deal of the movie pissed off at the main guy and even in the end, I was still mad at him but was glad that he stepped up. It was funny and totally unplanned but the villain both movies was the same guy. LOL.

What I Read

The Switch by Beth O’Leary | 4 out of 5

I had my monthly meeting with my book friends this weekend so I read this book because it was the book we chose to read together as a group. I hadn’t finished the book before the meeting started but I did finish it afterward (I only had about 30% of the book left to finish) and I liked it. I liked it a lot more than some of my friends but that’s okay. I really enjoyed both Leena and Grandma Eileen. I liked their stories, liked seeing their life swap adventure and I’m very interested in reading more of Beth O’Leary’s books thanks to this one so yeah, I liked this one.

What I Listened To

Telepathy by BTS

This is my favorite song on the BE album so it doesn’t surprise me that it’s getting a lot of playing time. I listen to it quite often and am happy to report that I can finally sing along to most of the song. Yay for me. Practice really does make perfect.

The Weekly Recap (163)

Posted March 15, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

It’s been a busy last couple of weeks for me so I’ve been noticeably absent from the blog. I’m also not reading for shit so there’s that. I am, however, watching movies and dramas so I’m not completely bored when I’m not working. My niece Chach got married a couple of weeks ago so I was in Utah for the wedding (and it came out great!) and then after the wedding (literally the day after the wedding), a good friend of mine from high school’s son died and my family stayed in Utah for that funeral but I was already home, and so was my Dad so instead of staying home, I went to Cali and worked from my sister’s house and took care of my Dad for the week.

It was good to spend some quality time with my Dad because he’s freaking awesome. He’s funny as hell and he’s just great company. I miss him when I’m home in Vegas so it was good to get some quality one on one. While I was home, I had dinner with both of my brothers and I even got to hang out with my BTS buddy B Nice and I was able to surprise my bestie, Therese, who had surgery on her neck/spine and was recovering at home. I watched a kdrama with her and her Mom so our surgery crew was back together again and it was nice.

Thanks to my BTS bestie, B Nice for picking me up on my last day in L.A. and spending the entire day taking me to all of my favorite Asian spots in L.A. that we just don’t have here in Vegas. I missed my black almond milk tea (with 3 pumps of sweetener, haha) from CHA for Tea and our kimbap from The Place Gue Jip in Gardena. It was also great to grab some BTS albums from the new kpop store in the Del Amo Mall. We made a day of all of my favorite spots and it was a blast!

BTS didn’t end up winning a Grammy last night but it’s all good. They performed and though it wasn’t my favorite performance of Dynamite, they still performed well and worked hard and that’s all that matters to me. I’m not a big fan of the Grammy’s but if the boys want one then I guess I’ll keep watching them until the boys get theirs.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…
