The Monthly Recap: November 2018

Posted December 4, 2018 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

November was a pretty busy month for me and my family. Birthdays, holidays and a missionary farewell that we had to prepare for but man did I have a great November. Lots of family around and even though I got into it with one of my doctors, I still had a great ass November.

What I Did

The month of November is a very popular birthday month in my family. We celebrated many birthdays this month, mine included. I’m a year older guys and I feel every single one of those years. LOL. This month was also for celebrating Cheridan as she prepared to leave the fam for a year and a half to serve her mission in San Jose. The week leading up to when she left for the MTC was spent as a family, doing whatever she wanted. We saw Ralph Breaks the Internet (pictured above), we rode bikes on the beach, did karaoke as a family, got our roll bounce on at the skating rink and we ate all of her favorite things. So, as you can see, we had a really good time doing what we always do together, laugh and clown each other.

Thanksgiving for the family was here in L.A. since everyone was in town for Cheridan’s farewell. We had lots of food, lots of people, and a big ass mess when all was said and done. Thank goodness there’s a million of us to clean up. Haha, we had fun though.

Cheridan is at the MTC in Mexico City right now, learning how to speak Spanish so that when she gets to San Jose in January, she’ll know how to speak Spanish like a pro (haha, or well, you know what I mean). She gave a great farewell talk on the day of her farewell and it was well attended by family far and near, as you can tell from the picture above. That picture was taken right after Sacrament meeting and we’re missing Chloe and Markus who had to rush home to check on the palusami that Markus and the boys made for our Sunday dinner. Team Wilson Gang rolls deep.

12. Ache for You (Slow Burn #3) by J.T. Geissinger (Audiobook) | 1 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to Wait for It by Mariana Zapata because I adored the romance, the characters and the author’s writing style. She hasn’t disappointed me yet and I’m looking forward to reading more of her books in the new year.

My least favorite book is the last book that I read last month. Ache for You by J.T. Geissinger. The heroine ruined this book for me because she was a whiny little asshole who jumped to every conclusion under the sun. It was annoying as hell and even in the end, she wouldn’t give the hero the benefit of the doubt and I wanted to smack the shit out of her.

We took Caiden with us to Brenna and Kenna’s game last week Monday and I thought it was the cutest thing when he spotted Kenna on the court. I snapped a really quick picture of him pointing and yelling for Kenna from the bleachers.

The Monthly Recap: October 2018

Posted November 6, 2018 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

November is here guys, can you believe it? It’s my birthday month and Thanksgiving month and a time to be grateful to be alive. I hope November treats you all well but before I move on to a new month, let’s take a look back at what October brought for me.

What I Did

October was a relatively quiet month for me. Well, Caiden was here for a week and that was a lot of fun but for the most part, I stayed close to home and relaxed. I did go to a Dodgers game against the Atlanta Braves (we won!) and it was Kershaw Day so Clayton Kershaw pitched for 8 full innings before Kenley Jansen came out to close the game and ice the win. It was a lot of fun with a lot of die-hard Dodgers fans enjoying a ballgame together. There were lots of high fives, excited cheers and booing for the opponent going on and I loved it all. We sat in the All-You-Can-Eat Pavillion and had all the Dodger dogs we could eat (we only had 1). Grandal hit a home run in our section but it was a few rows in front of us so we didn’t catch it or anything.

October was also for the Primary Program. It’s one of my favorite Church days of the year. The Primary kids put on a program each year in October and the kids get up to recite their parts and sing songs and it never fails to make me cry. We had two kids participating in the Primary Program and it was their first time being in it but both Ahbrey and Brooke did so well on their parts. They recited it in Samoan and they were so scared but they did it!! We celebrated with brunch afterward and that’s always a good time.

Halloween was the same as every year. We had chili and lots of food, the kids went trick or treating with the men while the ladies cooked and watched the Lakers game. It was a fun and relaxing month and I read some books!

What I Read

1. Rebel Hard (Hard Play #2) by Nalini Singh (eARC) | 4 out of 5
2. Fight or Flight by Samantha Young (eARC) | 4 out of 5
3. Archangel’s Consort (Guild Hunter #3) by Nalini Singh (Audiobook) | 4 out of 5
4. Shadow and Ice (War of Gods #1) by Gena Showalter (eARC) | 2.5 out of 5
5. Phoenix Unbound (Fallen Empire #1) by Grace Draven (eBook) | 4 out of 5
6. Fireworks (True North #6) by Sarina Bowen (eARC) | 4.25 out of5
7. Never Seduce a Scot (The Montgomery’s & Armstrongs #1) by Maya Banks (Audiobook) | 4.75 out of 5
8. The Other Miss Bridgerton (Rokesbys #3) by Julia Quinn (eARC) | 4.25 out of 5
9. Iron Kissed (Mercy Thompson #3) by Patricia Briggs (eBook) | 4.5 out of 5
10. Bone Crossed (Mercy Thompson #4) by Patricia Briggs (eBook) | 4 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks. It’s the first book in the Montgomery’s & Armstrongs series and holy cow it hit me with every single feel in my body. I loved the story, the romance and I came to love both families so much. It was hard to see it in the beginning but I came around. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

My least favorite read of the month goes to Shadow & Ice by Gena Showalter. It was slow going and I didn’t connect with the characters as much as I hoped I would. I probably won’t continue the series. *shrugs*

The Monthly Recap: September 2018

Posted October 16, 2018 by Rowena in Features | 6 Comments

September came and went a lot faster than I was anticipating. Lots of stuff happened but the most important thing that happened was our celebrating baby Jax’s first birthday. Jax is my older brother’s first grandchild and he is the apple of his papa’s eye. My brother is such a great grandfather and Jax loves him so. Jax is such a little cutie and an adorably good little boy and our family adore him. His first birthday was a lot of fun.

Brenna and Makenna’s pre-season for basketball has also started in September and they played in their first basketball tournament of the season, it was about an hour away and I didn’t make it out to the tournament but my brother Pete went and said that though the team isn’t as good as they were last year, Brenna and Makenna didn’t play nearly as well as they should have so it was hard to get a good feel on how they’ll do this year. I guess we’ll just wait and see.

Dodgers are playing in the National League Championship Series and I’m rooting them on from wherever I am when the games start. At home or at work.

My best friend had surgery to remove her thyroid and I was able to hang out with her and her Mom to make sure that all was well and to drive them around wherever they needed since Therese was in a lot of pain and her Mom was scared to drive around town. I was happy to be there for them both because Therese’s Mom is one of my favorite people in the world.

September was a good month for me personally but it was also good for me in books. Let’s move on to the books…

What I Read

1. For the Dukes Eyes Only (School for Dukes #2) by Lenora Bell (eARC) | 4.25 out of 5

17. America’s Sweetheart (Real Love #5) by Jessica Lemmon (eARC) | 4 out of 5
18. Never Love a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy #3) by Maya Banks (Audiobook) | 4.75 out of 5
19. Kissing Madeleine (Dearest #3) by Lex Martin (Audiobook) | 4 out of 5

My favorite read of the month goes to Dead Heat by Patricia Briggs but also Seduction of a Highland Lass by Maya Banks. Both books were so good. I cried buckets when listening to Seduction of a Highland Lass. I couldn’t get over how freaking good it was. Alaric and Keeley’s story hit me hard in every feel in my body. With Dead Heat, it was so good to be in Charles and Anna’s world again. I freaking love them both and I loved seeing them work together to figure out who was trying to harm their own. So, so freaking good.

I have two least favorite reads of the month as well. Those books are Hot Dad by Whitley Cox and Say You’ll Stay by Corinne Michaels. Both books pissed me off so I was glad to be done with them once I finished them.
