The Weekly Recap (184)

Two days after my birthday, I was laid off from work. No notice or anything, just a phone call from my boss at 10 am letting me know that the industry is down, our company isn’t bringing in enough money to keep all of our staff and even though I’m one of the best staffers in our department, I was chosen to be let go. She wanted me to know that it wasn’t a performance-based decision, but a financial one. The layoff was immediate and I have two weeks to send my work equipment back to our corporate offices. Tomorrow it’ll be a full week of my being unemployed and even though I’m still reeling from the abrupt nature of my layoff, I’m okay. I pouted for two days, and then I got to work.

I started the process of filing for unemployment (which isn’t really getting me anywhere, gah), I updated my resume, and I took a look at job openings in my area. I compared stay-at-home work with on-site work and looked at what each job and company is offering salary-wise and got a little discouraged because to make what I have grown accustomed to making, I’ll need to get two jobs. But with the help and guidance of some fantastic friends, I have a plan of action in place that will start after the Thanksgiving holiday. That plan of action includes figuring out my own financial situation and calculating how long I have before I’m in dire straits. Fortunately for me, I’m not in dire straits and I won’t need to rush into anything super quick.

I’m going to go home to L.A., spend a week with my Dad, hang out with my family, stream BTS, and then when I get back, I’m going to figure everything else out. I don’t normally talk about my personal life but I needed to get that out so that I can move forward, you know? Anyway, as thrown as I was this week, I still managed to watch all of my dramas…aiain’t nothing coming in between me and my dramas, I guess. Haha.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I watched last week…

What I Watched

Weak Hero Class 1 | 5 out of 5

I watched this entire show in one sitting. I was that engrossed in everything going on and even though there was a lot of darkness and a lot of shit that pissed me off and frustrated the hell out of me, I really enjoyed this one. I was gripped from beginning to end and I cannot wait for the next season.

Love is for Suckers: I watched the first episode of this week’s two and it’s another week of disappointment on my end, I guess I’m just not very forgiving of stupidity and fucking with peoples lives and after the way that episode 11 ended, I’m just…throwing in the towel on this one. I don’t even care about anything anymore. On to the next…

May I Help You?: So far, this is my favorite show that is active right now. I enjoy this drama so much that I have re-watched the previous episodes multiple times before starting the new episodes. This drama is my jam. So much goodness. Lee Hyeri and Lee Jun Young are such a charming pair and after each episode, I have the cheesiest smile which makes my week. This week’s episodes were no exception. I love love love this show.

Behind Every Star: Hmm, this show is still interesting to me but it’s not without its faults. I thought I’d be a lot more interested in the actors and the different situations at the office but aside from a few of the employees and like one actor, I’m not that interested in everything else. I’ll keep with it for the time being and see if it picks up at all. Fingers crossed.

Revenge of Others: This show is a lot darker than I was expecting. Watching it makes me worry about the kids in Korea because holy shit, the amount of dramas that I’m watching with horrible bullying in the schools is something else. This show may be dark but man is it interesting. Every episode, I’m surprised at how violent and dark this show is but I can’t stop watching so this show ain’t going nowhere on my weekly watch list.

The First Responders: I’m liking this show. I like every one of the mains, especially the cop. He’s fun. It’s a lot of fun watching them figure shit out, fight the good fight, and then clown each other. This is a great addition to my weekly watch lists.

Reborn Rich: Hooked. I am hooked after only watching two episodes. I am looking forward to where the revenge plot takes us because right now, Hyun Woo is me. I am Hyun Woo.

Fan Letter, Please: If this isn’t the cutest show right now, I don’t know what is. I absolutely love these kinds of shows and I’m already a huge fan of the daughter, the Dad, and the actress. I cannot wait to see where the rest of this show takes us. So far, this show is such a delight.

The Weekly Recap (183)

Posted November 14, 2022 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

Yesterday was my birthday and I celebrated it exactly the way that my introverted ass wanted. I got dressed up in all of my birthday presents and hung out at home, haha. Bren ordered my meals for the day, I FaceTimed with my Dad, and then I spent the day working on my photocard collection, watching k-dramas, and working on blog posts and it was such a delightful way to spend the day and I am the happiest of campers right now! I’m blessed with another year of life and with the knowledge that I am cared for and loved by loads of people. And yesterday was a big day in these Borahae streets. It was the anniversary of when Namjoon and Yoongi first moved in with each other, and the anniversary of when V coined the term, “I Purple You”. AND…Bangtan dropped the dance practice for Run BTS.

All in all, it was a fantastic day and I loved how low key it was. With the holidays coming up, I’ll be traveling back and forth to California for Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I was really looking forward to relaxing on my own this weekend. I even had a cinnabon birthday cake this year and that is just the perfect icing on my perfect birthday.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

Little Forest | 4.5 out of 5
Minari | 4 out of 5
One Ordinary Day | 4 out of 5
Confidential Assignment | 3.5 out of 5
Rookie Cops | 4 out of 5

I binge-watched two dramas from beginning to end this week and enjoyed the heck out of both of them. I cried so much during One Ordinary Day but I thought that Kim Soo Hyun did such a fabulous job with his entire character arc. That show had me at the edge of my seat throughout the entire thing and my heart went out to him in the end and gah…just so good. Rookie Cops was another delightful drama. I adored all of the characters, loved their whole squad, and even shed some tears but enjoyed the whole thing.

I watched a few movies this week as well and enjoyed all of them. My favorite of the bunch was probably Little Forest. I really enjoyed both Kim Tae Ri and Ryu Joon Yeol in this one.

Bad Prosecutor: This was a fun drama. I enjoyed the entire thing and was bummed that it wrapped up this week. I really enjoyed D.O. and was pretty happy with the entire thing.

Behind Ever Star: Episodes 1 & 2 dropped for this one this week and already, I’m interested. I’m interested in seeing what happens to the company, I’m very interested to see what the heck the connection between Ma Tae Oh and So Hyun Joo is. I’m definitely going to continue this one.

Curtain Call: I got halfway through the third episode and I’m not very interested in what’s going on right now. I thought about continuing in hopes that it’ll pick up for me but ehh, November is going to be busy enough for me without forcing myself to wait for a show to pick up eventually so I dropped this one, my first dropped drama of November.

Love in Contract: This drama ended this week and I was so sad to see it go. I have to come love the hell out of all three main leads and the rest of the cast. This was such a sweet show and I’m SO glad that I watched it.

Love is for Suckers: It’s been a while since I watched an episode and I’m a little sad that the new episodes that dropped this week were a little on the boring side. Actually, not boring but maybe my interest in this show has waned because I still don’t quite like the female lead? Hmm…I’ll finish this one til the end though.

May I Help You?: Holy cow, I’m REALLY loving this show. There were times when I wanted to spank Dong Joo last week but I’m well over all of that now. I adore both of the main leads and when he gave her a ride back to their house and put her arms around his stomach, telling her to hold on tight? *swoon* And don’t even get me started on when he tells her about her hands. AHHHHH, LOVE THIS SO MUCH! Also, holy shit!!! His worlds are colliding! I can’t wait for next week!

The First Responders: I knew that I was going to like this one and after only two episodes, I’m hooked. I am looking forward to sticking with this drama. I’m enjoying all three of the main leads so far.

Revenge of Others: This drama kicked off this week and I’m intrigued. I have a lot of questions just from the first two episodes and they all center around black hoodies and the main male lead. Just in the world is going on??

The Weekly Recap (182)

Posted November 7, 2022 by Rowena in Features | 0 Comments

This year was my first Halloween here in Vegas. I moved here after Halloween in 2020 and then I was in L.A. last Halloween saying bye to my nephews that were leaving on their missions. So it was the first year that I prepared to have my very own Halloween at home. I went to the store, stocked up on candy, and I turned my porch light on and stayed near the front door so I didn’t miss any kids and this is how I looked the entire freaking night…

via GIPHY

Not one damn kid was out trick or treating and not one damn person came to my damn door. NOT ONE. I got ZERO trick-or-treaters. ZERO!!!! Who the hell is gonna eat all of this candy? Sigh. anyway, I’m back on my regular schedule and because it’s getting cold out here, I don’t want to do shit but watch k-dramas and drink hot drinks. It’s soup season so I’m looking forward to eating a whole lot of soups.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

The Policeman’s Lineage | 3 out of 5
Soundtrack #1 | 4 out of 5
Double Patty | 3.5 out of 5
The Bros | 3.5 out of 5

I watched a lot of movies this week and while I liked them, I didn’t LOVE any of them. Oh well. I also re-watched Soundtrack #1 again and really enjoyed that one. I just wish it was longer. Still, Park Hyung Shik is fine as shit and it’s always nice to remember that.

Bad Prosecutor: This is that show. I am loving every little thing about this show. The suspense portion of it, D.O’s acting, and all of the action. Every week, this show just keeps getting better and better and this week wasn’t an exception. This one is so good.

Blind: This show ended this week and it was wild ride from beginning to end. The plot twists were twisting and I was here for it all. All the way up until the end, I had no clue where the story was leading us but that ending? Yeah, that ending was great.

Curtain Call: This is the newest drama to my weekly line up and the first two episodes were a little slow moving but I’m curious enough about where this show takes us that I’ll continue on for the time being. It’s good to see Kang Ha Neul in a new drama though so there’s that.

Gaus Electronics: This show was so damn good and I was sad to say goodbye to it. This cast of characters had me cracking up (out loud) every single week. This show was the right amount of cute, interesting, and silly to catch and keep my attention and I’m going to miss all of these guys.

Love in Contract: Holy cow this drama is so good! I am in love with Jung Ji Ho. He is the perfect imperfect boyfriend and I adore him to pieces. I am also LOVING Kang Hae Jin. Everything that he’s doing to turn his family business around is making me happy swoon all over the place. I can’t wait to see how this show wraps up. It’s been a fun ride.

The Weekly Recap (177)

Posted January 17, 2022 by Rowena in Features | 4 Comments

Hey everyone!

The second of 2022 was pretty quiet on my end. I worked every day but even work was quiet. This is usually our slow quarter at work so I expected to be slow but I’m low-key bored, not that I’m going to complain because I know that this period isn’t going to last long. Before I know what’s what, the jobs will be pouring in and I’ll be in hell again so I’m going to enjoy this peace and quiet for however long it lasts.

This week was also the week that our water heater went out. We were without water for two whole days because not only did the water heater go down but we had some serious irrigation issues in our front yard and back yard that caused some slight flooding so we had to get all of that fixed. The water heater was replaced, so I was able to take an actual shower which made me happy. We’re in the process of getting the irrigation issues dealt with so that should be over soon and all will be well again. Fingers crossed.

Now, let’s get into all of the things that I did in the last two weeks since I missed last week’s post…

What I Read

Human Acts by Han Kang | 4 out of 5
Save Me by BTS, Lico | 4.5 out of 5
Bombshell (Hell’s Belles #1) by Sarah MacLean | 4 out of 5
Getting Played (Getting Some #1) by Emma Chase | 2.5 out of 5

My reading has definitely picked up this week but I don’t want to jinx it so I’m just going to be happy that I’m reading again and hope that it continues. I started the year with a buddy read and some book club reads. I’ve already started my fourth read of the year but it’s slow going because I started and almost finished an entire drama in two days. I don’t regret it though because the drama was good.

My favorite read of the week goes to the webtoon, Save Me. The story was fun and though the ending felt a bit rushed, I still rather enjoyed the story as a whole. It was fun to see Jin trying to save all of the boys, getting it wrong and then trying again. If, at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again. It was great. My least favorite read of the week goes to Getting Played (Getting Some #1) by Emma Chase. This is a re-read for me and I don’t remember the dialogue being so cheesy and the characters being so corny.

What I Watched

School 2021 | 3.5 out of 5
Encanto | 4.5 out of 5
Dear My Friends | 4 out of 5

I enjoyed School 2021 and was a little sad that it ended this week. I was really happy with the way that it all ended but was it my favorite k-drama ever? Nah. Still, it was good. Brenna has been telling me over and over how much she loved Encanto so I watched it for myself this week and am super glad that I did. I cried, I rejoiced, and I just loved it all. Great recommendation and if you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend that you change that.

I spent my long weekend watching Dear My Friends on Netflix. I wasn’t expecting this drama to be as emotionally charged as it was and I’m super glad that I gave it a go. I can see me and my bestie, Therese acting up like these old ladies and calling Brenna to come and save us from our shenanigans. I can’t wait, haha.

Our Beloved Summer

I’m sad that there are only four more episodes left of this drama. This wasn’t one of those action-packed, fast-paced dramas but I thought the pacing worked for the story being told here. I enjoyed the past and the present lives of Choi Wung and Kook Yeon Soo. Seeing these two finally come together in truth, instead of assumed truths, was so satisfying.

I really love me some Choi Wung and every single time that V’s voice comes on, singing Christmas Tree, my heart breaks and soars because I love hearing V sing.

Ghost Doctor

I started this drama last week because I like Kim Bum but after four episodes, I am still not locked in. I fell asleep in every single episode that I watched and I’m thinking that I’m going to drop this one, which bums me out because I thought that I would enjoy this one a lot more. But, it’s low-key boring to me.

I’m not sure if my boredom is due to the actual storyline or if it’s because I’m not in the mood for it right now but either way, I’m dropping it. I’m not sure if I’m dropping it for good, or if I’m dropping it for now. I guess we’ll find out.

Demon Slayer, Season 2

The highlights of my week continue to be watching Demon Slayer with Therese every Sunday and this week’s episode was too good.

Seeing Nezuko finally get the chance to feel everything that she’s been suppressing ever since she turned into a demon was more emotional than I was expecting. So far, this season is my favorite season and I’m super obsessed. I’m collecting the print manga’s so that I can read everything ahead of the episodes released each week. I’m also watching everything that I can find on YouTube as well. Needless to say, this anime is good as shit.

The Weekly Recap (175)

Posted October 4, 2021 by Rowena in Features | 2 Comments

This last week of work has seriously sucked ass. More than one day was shot to shit because everyone is busy, nobody can take any more work so it’s taking me a lot longer to do my work and when people don’t listen, it pisses me off because I can never say what I want to say to them. At least I’ve vented my frustrations to my boss and she seems to hear me and want to make things better for me and my colleagues. We’ll see what this coming week brings me. Fingers crossed that its peace.

Anyway, let’s get into all of the things that I did last week…

What I Watched

Taxi Driver | 4 out of 5
The Vanished | 4 out of 5

Thoughts on This Week’s Episodes

Police University: Ugh, I’m a bit bummed that one of my favorite characters ended up being something that I’m hesitating to believe is actually true. This show is wrapping up and though I think the first half was a lot stronger than the second half, I’m still enjoying this show and I’m still loving the hell out of Sun Ho and Kang Hee and their squad. I’m pretty anxious to see how this all comes together. The end is near and I don’t know how I feel about that yet.

The Great Shaman Ga Doo Shim: This week’s episode was short and not at all sweet. I wanted to smack the hell out of Ga Doo Shim. She’s supposed to be the billy bad ass shaman but it takes her forever to react and make a move when she’s in the middle of fighting the bad spirits. Poor Na Woo Soo, he gotta do everything his damn self because Doo Shim be taking her sweet ass time shaking herself off. Even the annoying girl that likes Woo Soo was faster to step up and fight the evil spirit. Get it together, Doo Shimah!

Lovers of the Red Sky: I’m still really enjoying this show and this week brought the love triangle out and though I’m not a big fan of those damn things, I’m liking the second lead just enough for this one to be interesting. Sorry second lead, I’m still Team Ha Ram.

Hometown Cha Cha Cha: This week’s episodes weren’t my favorite episodes of the show so far but despite the cheesiness and my disappointment in both Hye Jin and Du Sik for some immature shit that had me scratching my head, the way that this week’s episodes ended dimmed my disappointment in the immature way that Hye Jin treated Du Sik before they came out as a couple to the town a bit so I’m glad that alls well that ends well. I am looking forward to the next few episodes though. I’m really wanting to see how Du Sik’s past comes to light.

Lost: Man, this show is such an emotional one and though it’s hard to get through sometimes, I’m glad that I stick with it because even through the slowness of the storytelling, there are bright beaming moments that really gets me right in my heart. Each character is going through their own struggles and struggling to keep it together and I’m pretty anxious to see more.

Yumi’s Cells: Ooh we got jealous Yumi this week and I was so here for it! This show is just too cute for words. Between Yumi’s cells, Woong’s cells, and their sweet romance, there’s a lot going on that I think is so cute so I’m completely invested in this show. The way that the first episode ended was so stinkin’ cute that I can’t stand it. The second episode of the week was a little cheesy but I didn’t mind too much. I just didn’t really understand why it was so hard for Yumi to just be upfront about the damn glass windowed bathroom. What was so hard about telling him it was the only oceanview room left was the one she got? But I guess they needed to go through that entire day to get to that episode’s ending and…hot damn!! 😛

The Veil: I started this show this week while I waited for English subtitles for my other shows and I’m hella glad that I did because this show is good. It’s smart, it’s action packed, and I’m piecing the puzzle right along with the main lead and just like him, I need answers. I’m invested in what happened to him last year before his accident and the romantic in me is curious to see if he hooks up with his partner. I hope so. LOL. The opposites attract thing is really working for me. I can’t wait for more episodes.

What I Listened To

My Universe by Coldplay feat. BTS

This music video gave me life! It’s one of those music videos that warmed me right up. The song is great, the message behind the song and then the video??? Yeah, they did everything right and I love it so much! Hologram JK, the Kim line visual, Hoseok’s space lady love interest, Jimin’s high notes, and Suga owning his verse? Yeah, I love this song and video so much!

Ugh by BTS

This song matched my mood at work every day this week so it got a lot of playing time because can I ugh (ugh)??

Trivia 轉: Seesaw

To mellow myself out after the aggressive flows in Ugh, I listened to Suga calm my ass down with this song. I even did the dance in my head every single time I listened to this.
